Chapter 4 Sophia's First Boyfriend

However, she was hoping to find love during her last year of college. But that dream had become far to reach, when she went to the doctor for a routine health exam. She had just turned twenty-one years old at the time. They found out that she had a health condition that would affect her life romantically. After receiving this heartbreaking news, she became ashamed of herself. She had lost interest in dating anyone for years. She avoided anyone who had any romantic interest in her. Still, her grandmother Betty tried to encourage her to go on dates.

She would always tell her that there was someone out there who would be willing to make her his wife one day. During that time, Betty's health was deteriorating due to old age and overworking her body over the years. By then, Betty could no longer work or do much around the house. Therefore, she longed to see Sophia with someone before she died. That was why when Sophia met the sweet talker Victor Maxwell, Betty was very happy. Sophia and Victor met at a bowling alley. They both were both twenty-three almost twenty twenty-four years old at the time.

Because she took care of her grandmother when she was not working, Sophia rarely had time to make friends. It was also an excuse for her to not go on dates. When she did go out, it would be because Betty would force her to do so. Betty would always tell Sophia that she needed to enjoy life while she was young. It did not matter whether she had friends or someone to enjoy life with, she had to get out of the house and have some fun. So, to give Sophia some free time and ease her worries, Betty would go to hang out with neighbor Ruby when Sophia was out. The grandmother would often say "Sophia it is time for your self-care outing" whenever she wanted Sophia to go out and have some fun. So, one day while Sophia was doing one of her "self-care outings" at a bowling alley, Victor was there as well with his group of friends, who also happened to be his coworkers. Victor and his friends were going to create two teams among them, so they could play against each other.

However, one of the groups was missing one person to make both teams complete. If they wanted to play a fair game, they had to find someone inside the bowling alley who would be willing to join their group. While they were looking around to see if they could find someone to join their group, Victor laid his eyes on a beautiful woman who was playing by herself. He quickly walked over and used his charm to get her to join them. That woman was Sophia. She had her natural redhead hair in a ponytail, which exposed her beautiful well-shaped neck and jawline. "Why is someone so pretty like you playing by yourself? Is your boyfriend alright with you out there all on your own?" Victor stood behind her with both of his hands in his pockets. Sophia was taken aback for a moment by Victor's deep voice. She was just about to throw her ball into the lane when Victor approached her.

She turned around to look at the man who was standing behind her and She saw the handsome victor looking at her with a domineering aura. He was tall, well fit, and well dressed. He was the most handsome man among his male friends. Sophia pretended that she did not faze by victor's appearance. She just looked at him and "I would not know how to answer this question because I do not have a boyfriend. Is this your typical line that you use to flirt with women?" "hahaha! Is it working?" Victor laughed as he said that. "No, not really." Sophia responded nonchalantly. "Actually, my friends and I are trying to create a group of two teams to play against each other, we need one more person to make the teams even. Then, I saw you and was wondering if you would like to join us. Please say yes. You will have more fun playing with us than by yourself. What do you say?" Victor pointed Sophia in the direction where his friends were standing at. He purposely shifted their conversation from being very flirtatious to just someone asking for help, because he did not want Sophia to reject her. He would have plenty of time to win Sophia's heart over. He had to be patient. Sophia looked in the direction where Victor's friends were standing at and then looked at victor and said "yes, alright. I will join your team." "Perfect come with me then!".

From this point on, she would hang out with some of Victor's friends along with Victor whenever she could. Eventually, a romantic relationship was formed. The relationship was great for the first two years. He would treat Sophia as a queen. He would take her out to dinner or do something fun every week. He would pamper her with a lot of gifts. What she did not know was that she was not the only woman in victor's life. For the first two years of the relationship, she was blindsided by Victor's charm. She had never been in a relationship before. Victor was her first relationship. As someone who grew up in a single parent household and had never seen her grandmother be in any relationships after the death of her grandfather, it was easy for her to fall into victor's trap. They never acted as lovers when they were among their friends.

The relationship was to be kept private per Victor's request. The only close person who knew about their relationship was Betty. After two years of dating, Victor's true color started to appear. It all started when Betty asked him when he was going to propose to Sophia. To keep his good boyfriend appearance in front of Betty, he would tell her that soon he would ask for Sophia's hand in marriage. When Sophia asked him if he was serious about marrying her, he told her that he was just trying to make Betty happy since her health was not that good. He told her that he was not interested in getting married unless they consumed the relationship first. Sophia had already told him before starting the relationship, that she would be ready to consume the relationship until after they were married. Then, within a month after Betty asked Victor about marrying Sophia, Betty died.
