Chapter 7 A Sense of Comfort

"Search until you find it, and do it as neatly as possible."

The three uniformed bodyguards walked out after receiving orders from their master.

Last night, Gilbert had been very uneasy. He was obviously thinking about his sons- and daughter-in-law. Contacting them was useless, as they did not have their cellphones with them. He didn't know where they slept last night, but Gilbert was hesitant to contact Harrison.

Even if his daughter-in-law came home, Harrison would surely ask Gilbert for an explanation. Reporting to the police was unlikely. It would have been funny to do so. Hopefully, Gerald and his son-in-law are fine and in a safe place. And be found by the bodyguards soon.

Denver was also gone, but he wasn't too worried about him. Perhaps his eldest son was in the apartment.

"Don't you have an important meeting with Cynaxa's client? Why are you still here?" snapped Karen. She was reading a magazine.

Gilbert breathed out heavily. Seeing his wife's behavior, she seemed to be okay with Daisy leaving because of her actions last night.

"It's all because of you, Karen. What's the point of having a brain if you don't think things through?" he said after taking a sip of the coffee sitting on the table.

Karen threw her magazine on the floor, then stood up and looked closely at her husband.

"What do you mean because of me? That drama-filled woman? You and Gerald should have opened your eyes. I'm not doing anything, just stating the facts!" she argued fiercely, and stomped upstairs.

It's a wonder that Karen used to like Daisy so much, but now she hates her so much. Even her own husband gets angry when Daisy's name is mentioned. Karen was not as emotional as she is now. Gilbert could only sigh at the drastic change in his wife's behavior.

A cell phone vibrated from inside his black coat pocket. The name of his eldest child was prominently displayed on the five-inch screen. This was the first message since his departure from Harrison's house the other day.

[I'm sorry, I can't go home and I can't go to the office yet. Dad, don't worry, I'm fine. -Denver]

Gilbert wanted to call his son, but time did not permit. He had to leave immediately because it was already noon.

"Go now, if you can speed up." He instructed the driver, who was already waiting in the car.

"Yes, Mister."

How could Gilbert have arrived this late, especially with the meeting starting in ten minutes, but he was not even halfway there? Usually, there was Denver on standby to handle company business if Gilbert had anything else to do.

Finally, at 140km/h, the driver arrived within fifteen minutes.

"We've arrived, Mister."

Gilbert rushed downstairs carrying a black bag. The watch was never out of sight. Damn, there was Harrison chatting with Luna - his secretary in the lobby. He forgot that the current meeting was not only with a client from Cynaxa but also with Harrison's company.

"Morning, Gilbert."

The men shook hands. Luna chose to excuse herself after her business with Harrison was done. Moreover, the woman felt awkward if she had to chat with her boss.

"What about Daisy and Gerald? I called them this morning, but they didn't pick up. Probably still sleeping, well... Mr. Gilbert knows how newlyweds are."

"Fine, they're fine. Yes, maybe they're still sleeping," Gilbert said in confusion.

Now he knew that his son-in-law had not come home. So where was she? But telling Harrison the truth was impossible. Not only was Harrison tough-tempered, but he was also well-built. In contrast, Gilbert's body was stocky and lacked martial arts skills.

"Didn't Mister Gilbert meet with them this morning?" Harrison asked.

How's this?

"Sorry, Mr. Harrison and Mister Gilbert. Everyone is waiting in the meeting room."

Luna's arrival was like a savior. Gilbert felt safe for now, but he didn't know about later. Hopefully, Daisy and Gerald would be back.

The smell of medicine wafted through the nose. The roof of the room also looked different. Daisy felt a prick on her wrist. Of course, it was the IV, complete with pole.

"Where am I?"

Gerald, who was beside her, gasped awake. A sweet curve was etched on his lips. Happy that his wife was awake.

"You're in the hospital. You fainted earlier."

Daisy scanned the room with the corner of her eye. Now she remembered the incident in the hotel earlier when she was in the toilet.

"Do you want to eat? Or what are you feeling now? Is anyone sick? Let me help," Gerald offered, his wife's hand not leaving his grasp.

Daisy didn't answer. She just stared at every inch of her husband's face full of questions. To her, Gerald was like a guardian angel. When Denver chose to leave, this stranger provided extraordinary care. Without disgust.

"Why are you so good to me, Ger?"

Gerald squinted his eyes. He was amused by this question from the beautiful woman who looked deathly pale in front of him.

"Because you're my wife."

Daisy shook her head. "No, Ger. In fact, we only knew each other when we were getting married the next day, and you wanted to marry a rape victim-"

"Shush!"

Gerald put his forefinger on Daisy's lips. "Don't say that. To me, you're still a perfect woman. Only people who are not open-minded can't see your perfection."

She really couldn't believe it. Daisy still couldn't believe that there was a good man like him. Was she innocent, stupid, or... in love?

She felt overconfident as if thought Gerald loved her. Her expectations were too far. She was sure he was just sorry for her. But why does the look in his eyes seem to imply an expression of love? It was like there was a poem that flowed serenely in every inch of touch. Reassuring.

"Thank you, Gerald."

Gerald nodded. "You're welcome. I don't want you to say that again. Let's take care of this baby together. Remember, don't blame her, let alone fate. Okey?"

Now it was Daisy's turn to nod. Complete with a sweet smile. She was almost surprised when Gerald kissed her forehead for so long. Uh... didn't Gerald do that in the toilet earlier? But why is it so different now? Something was vibrating inside her chest cavity. Hopefully Gerald wouldn't hear it.

The three bodyguards gathered again after three hours of a scattered search for Gerald and Daisy. However, none of them got any results from their search, only fatigue and confusion remained.

"Where else should we look, Jack?"

The well-built man named Jack just leaned his back on the car seat, still reluctant to start the engine. The last place they'd looked was this hotel, but to no avail. He was also confused, unable to go home and face Gilbert before finding his two young employers.

"Look, Jack! Isn't that Denver?"

Joe, who was astonished to see his employer, was confused. Honestly, this was the first time he had seen Denver with a woman other than Daisy, his ex-fiancée. Surprisingly, his employer was with two women at once and very intimate.

What he couldn't understand was that Denver was wearing boxer briefs and a short t-shirt, something he never did in the house.

"You've got the wrong look, Joe! He's got a very messy look, unlike Denver, who's always so neat," Juan said, to which the others nodded.

"I didn't see it wrong!"
