The perfect snare had presented itself and she had been caught. Caught
in a web that is me.
We had exchanged each other's cell numbers, and since she already
knew my house, she told me hers - which I already knew, but she didn't
need to know that.
It was evening, and I had printed out our contract and read through it
again before I got ready to take it to her house to have her sign it.
My usual all-black outfit called out to me to be worn, but I decided not to,
and instead, I wore a grey coat over my black shirt and a pair of black
pants.
She wanted to meet in a cafe close to her house, but I had told her I
wanted to be certain we were on the same page on this issue, so I
insisted on her house.
She agreed because she had seen mine.
She was a little naive but I guess if that didn't exist in her, I wouldn't have
been able to witness this...
The door to her apartment was open and right there on her blue couch
was Garland leaning into Olivia.
"Get off me and leave my house this instant. I don't want to see you ever
again... Get off..." Olivia said.
"Get away from her!" I thundered, my voice echoing in the room and
Garland leaped away from her at the knowledge of someone else.
Olivia's robe had parted and she straightened it as she sat up. It wasn't
up to forty-eight hours, and yet I had gotten angry so many times.
"What are you doing here?" Garland asked me, surprise clear in his
eyes.
We both coordinate teams, so he must think we are on the same level. If
only I did not plan on formally announcing who I am to the world, I would
have bought the company we work for and him in it.
"I came to see my girlfriend. You?" I asked, staring fiercely at him, my
eyes thinning into slants.
"I came to see my girlfriend!" He replied.
I scoffed and took a step closer but before I could say anything, Olivia
stood up and faced Garland.
"This should be the last time you try to come anywhere around me. You
forced your way in, but I'll be kind enough to forgive you for that, and this
is a warning that if you do not adhere to this, I'll have you reported to the
police!" Olivia said to him and I could hear the undercurrent in her voice.
She sounded like with a few more strikes, she would break down in
tears.
I didn't want her breaking down in the presence of this fu**ker!
Not in his presence...never because of him.
"Tell me, Olivia. Is he your boyfriend?
Then why were you crying like that at my wedding?
Or...or were you two-timing you..." Garland asked, his eyes wide as he
pushed her shoulder with two of his fingers.
I finally lost it and was before him in a second.
For three years, I had to endure seeing him with her because I thought
he could bring her the happiness I wasn't capable of.
He goes ahead to squander his time, thinking she will always be
available, and now he is angry.
He got married to the woman he works for because of the position and
the connection it would bring to him and he still wants to maintain a true
relationship with Olivia. How pathetic!!!
I lifted him by his collar, cornered him to the wall, and used my elbow to
press against his neck.
His eyes almost bled out as he tried to remove my elbow.
"This is my warning to you.
If you ever show your face before my woman again... No, that won't do.
If you ever walk in the same street as her or you ever think of blinking in
her direction, I'll gouge out those bulgy eyes of yours and have vultures
feed on your miserable self!
Do. You. Understand?" I asked as I leaned in harder, the edge of my
elbow pressing deeper into his skin and turning him as bright as a
ripened tomato.
He was still trying to push my elbow off but his attempt was growing
futile. He was beginning to lose oxygen and the both of us knew it.
"Stop Jarek. You could kill him!" Olivia said as she tapped on my
shoulder from behind.
Garland rapidly nodded his head or tried his best to move his head up
and down and I removed my arm from him and watched him slide to the
floor.
I turned to face Olivia..
"Are you alright?" I asked.
She eased some strands of her hair behind her ear before she nodded in
the affirmative but her eyes were telling a different story.
I was about to turn back to Garland when I felt a vase crash at the side
of my head.
It was a small vase, and because of my turn, it had not delivered the
force of its strike.
'He still has some strength left huh!'
"The heck!" Olivia exclaimed.
"I promise to have you fired!" He said as he rubbed his neck with one of
his hands.
He hurried past me and then past Olivia.
"F**king bi*ch!" He said just before I heard the door being slammed shut.
My organs froze. My blood ran cold.
I guess it's time to buy the company he got married to. I'll have Conner
placed over it...but for now I...
"I'm...I'm sorry. I never thought he would come here again after getting
married yesterday and...he still knows the passcode to my apartment
and so..." Olivia rambled on and I caught the shiver of her hands.
"You do not need to apologize. Are you alright?" I asked again as I took
a step towards her but she moved back cautiously.
I halted as I watched her fold her hands into fists so she could attain a
level of firmness. I swallowed back the building anger within me. It would
do me no good as the person it is to be directed at is nowhere around.
But he would pay...
I, Jarek Stark, will make sure of that.
"You have a cut on...on your face. Just a second, I'll go get the first aid
box. Please Sit!" She said.
