"How can you answer like that? You should have said, 'Thank you, my wife'. How are you, Mr. Dirga? You've been greeted with enthusiasm, but your answer is limp." Adara pursed her lips. Her earlier smile suddenly faded.
"Sorry, Adara. I'm not used to this." Dirga smiled awkwardly. Actually, Dirga was still surprised by the change in his wife's attitude.
"Come on, come on in. It's cold in here." Dirga broke Adara's anger.
"Looks like I'm not cooking tonight. Want to eat out?" Dirga offered.
"No need. I've cooked before," Adara said shyly. Before last night, Adara had been looking for recipes that were easy to make. Despite having to rely on recipes from the internet, she finally managed to make the dish.
"Did you cook it? Can I see it?" Dirga's enthusiasm suddenly increased.
"You can, but after you take a shower. Let's take a shower, it's getting late." Adara said. Dirga ruffled the top of Adara's hair before going upstairs.
"Mr. Dirga!" shouted Adara angrily.
"That's really annoying, Mr. Dirga. But does Mr. Dirga like my cooking?"
Adara waited for Dirga at the dining table. Dirga showered for no more than ten minutes. He couldn't wait to eat his wife's cooking. Dirga wondered what Adara would make for dinner this time.
"Are you bathing like a human or bathing like a duck? It's so fast."
"Bathing like a human, but faster." Dirga replied casually.
"I'm getting more and more convinced that you're a duck demon," she accused. Dirga had to be really patient with Adara's outrageous accusations.
"Maybe." Dirga chuckled. "Wow, did you cook this?"
"No, the duck queen. Such obvious things are still being asked, it's annoying."
Compared to the queen of ducks, Adara is better suited to be the queen of bees, who likes to stab Dirga in the heart when she's angry.
Adara only cooked stir-fried tempeh. But Dirga seemed to like it. Moreover, it was the queen bee who cooked it, which meant his own wife. The boy didn't want to be bothered, so he only cooked one type of food.
Adara watched Dirga devour his food. "How does it taste?"
"It's very delicious. Thank you, Adara." Dirga smiled.
The two of them ate dinner together. Adara was confident that she could cook after this. She just needed to learn more from the internet. Adara also needed to learn how to differentiate between spices. She was not very good in the kitchen.
"What are you doing while I'm working?" Dirga sat next to Adara. Dirga knew her body was tired after working all day. But Dirga tried to make time for Adara so that the girl wouldn't feel lonely.
"Taking a walk around the neighborhood with Vania."
"Vania is our next door neighbor?" Dirga asked curiously. Adara nodded. Dirga calmed down, at least Adara had a friend while Dirga worked.
"It's good that you have friends. I thought you were lonely at home, but you're not. You get along well, Adara."
Adara received a thousand compliments from Dirga. She smiled shyly, making Dirga even more anxious. It turned out that Dirga was married to an adorable daughter who still needed to control her emotions and guidance to take care of the household.
"But Vania is busy studying. Unlike me, who instead of studying, became someone's wife." Adara said sadly. She wanted to go to college, just like Vania.
"You can still go to college even if you become someone's wife. Do you want to go to college?" Dirga asked. Adara nodded enthusiastically.
"Maybe if you go to college, you won't be lonely anymore if I keep working outside the city."
"Where are you going?"
"Next month, I have a work project outside the city. I'll be there for about three months. Do you mind if I stay while you're busy studying?"
"I'm coming. I don't dare stay at home alone." Adara was not used to living alone at home. Ever since she was a little girl, Adara couldn't be independent. Someone had to help her do everything.
"You said you want to go to college. If you come with me, what about your studies?"
"There's no need to go to college. I'll just come with you. I'm often bored at home."
"It's better to go to college. Apart from gaining knowledge, you can also make friends. You won't be lonely anymore."
"I'll think about it. I'm going to bed first, it's getting late." Adara waltzed away. She was still confused about whether to go to college or follow her husband out of town. Without Dirga's presence, Adara felt lonely, especially if Dirga was away for a long time.
"I'm really thirsty. But I'm too lazy to go downstairs." Adara lay down and began to close her eyes. She tried to stifle her thirst. But Adara couldn't. She decided to go downstairs, it didn't feel good to keep asking Dirga for help.
"Mr. Dirga is at the back?" The lights at the back of the house were still on, and the door was slightly ajar. Adara thought Dirga was there.
"Mr. Dirga?" The door, which had been slightly open, now opened wider. Dirga, who was sitting pensively, immediately turned his body to face Adara.
"Not sleeping yet?" he asked.
"No, I haven't. I was thirsty, so I went downstairs to get a drink."
"Can't you ask me for a favor?"
"No, I was too proud." Adara said it openly.
"Why aren't you sleeping when you're going to work tomorrow? Instead you're sitting here." Adara asked curiously.
"I'm thinking about a new work project. I'm happy to have a lot of work to do, but on the other hand, I don't really like going out of town."
Adara sat on the chair next to Dirga. She looked at Dirga who seemed to want to talk to Adara. Seeing Dirga like that, Adara desperately refrained from bullying him this time.
"When will you leave this city?"
"Next month. I can't leave you at home. Even if you have friends, my mind is still uneasy."
Adara had just experienced the complications of domestic life. Adara was also confused about what decision to make. Dirga's words made Adara think in the same way. Adara could not do many things, it might be difficult if Dirga was not beside her.
"Can I come with you out of town?"
"You can, as long as you don't have anything else to do."
"I'm coming! I want to travel, fill my social media!" she said enthusiastically. Dirga smiled at his wife's cheerful behavior.
"Just to fill your social media? Don't you want to accompany your husband to work?"
"Both. If it can be both, why does it have to be one?" Adara chuckled. She was looking forward to a vacation to the beach or up the mountain. But Dirga's goal was to work, not have fun.
