"I don't need to ask what's going on here. I can see that your mind is in a state of turmoil."
I ignored him and went to sit across the room, still breathing heavily. It seemed like I had already started living my worst nightmare. Just in a few days Lola came back into my life. Maybe the universe has finally decided to punish me for all the wrong choices I had made in the past.
What will Alessia do when she finds out about the huge transaction Lola just made with the card? And what was Lola thinking making such a drastic move?
"What an irony I would say," Alessia's right hand man continued, "you have finally gotten your dream PA, but look at the mess you are living in. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?"
"Shut up, you! Whatever your name is!" I screamed at him. I have never bothered to know what his name was ever since I moved in with Alessia, five years ago. Between the both of us, it was hate at first sight and I wouldn't mind it remaining that way.
Right now, the only thing I cared about was why Lola did what she did. Did she have it in mind to scam me all along?
"Alright, I will leave you if that's what you want."
I watched him take his exit, but it did nothing to erase the worry that was still haunting me.
Did Lola really scam me? Was she actually capable of doing something so disastrous?
I stood up and stormed towards the door when I could no longer stand it. I got to the hospital address I saw at the debit alert from and went straight to the reception area. I described Lola to the first nurse who managed to pay attention to me and in no time, she directed me to Lola's room.
So she hadn't scammed me? I thought as I made my way to the room number. It gave me a little relief, but didn't stop me from being mad at her for trying to sabotage my perfect life.
"What was the meaning of what you did?" I asked immediately after I opened the door. Lola raised her head on hearing my voice. I saw that her eyes were bloodshot red and swollen, probably from crying.
When my eyes reverted to the little cute boy lying next to her, my heart melted at that point. I became speechless. It seemed like an invisible force began pulling me towards him, while it felt like I was meeting the mini version of myself.
However, he looked so pale that it almost broke my heart.
Tears began pooling at the corners of my eyes as I touched his forehead. I would have hugged him too if not that he was sound asleep.
"How did you find out where I was?" Lola asked me in a confused voice.
Just then, I recovered myself and tucked back my emotions, choosing to deal with them later.
"How else? Have you already forgotten about the thousands of dollars you just withdrew from my account?" I asked her as a matter of fact.
"Lamonthe," she sighed, "about that."
What she did with the money was no longer the problem. I have gotten a little bit of peace knowing that she made such a harsh move in an attempt to save her son. Our son.
However, it still doesn't solve the other issue, which was the major issue.
What was I going to tell Alessia when she demanded an explanation? How do I explain to her that I have a son?
"What am I going to tell Alessia?" I blurted out, shoving my hands into my hair, not caring if I was making a mess of it.
Lola double took in such a way that it felt like I had slapped her. She immediately stood up and faced me, "Really? That's what you are worried about? You're worried about your cougar? And not what was wrong with your son?"
"Come on, Lola. I didn't mean it like that and you know it."
"Of course that was what you meant! You barged in here to confront me about the money I spent, not bothering to ask about your son's health."
"I'm also worried about our son and you know it. I would have asked about his health eventually." I replied in a defensive tone.
"Yes, you would have asked about him, but that would have been right after you would have tried to strangle the money I used to pay for his hospital bills back. Or am I wrong?"
"Lola, please. You can stop assuming things now. Yes, I was worried about the money because I don't want Alessia calling me to ask about the strange transaction."
Lola rolled her eyes at my statement, "Get over yourself, Lamonthe. You care more about your cougar more than you care about your own son."
"Now you are pointing an accusing finger at me and that's not fair."
"No, Lamonthe! What's not fair was you standing me up at the altar and setting me up for public embarrassment. You know the most unfair one? Abandoning our child for only me to cater for him! I was barely scrambling to survive. I came to this city for a better life, only to find out that you have been living the good life all these years."
I began massaging my forehead, "Lola, please. You are deviating from the main point. We are talking about the money Alessia will query me for and you are bringing up the past?"
My phone began vibrating in my pants pocket. I muttered a curse under my breath, hoping it won't be who I thought it was.
I had a little luck on that because after glancing at my phone screen, it was exactly who I thought it was.
"Hi, my love," I say in the most romantic voice I could ever find while waiting for the fury that will follow next.
