Chapter 4 MAKE UP

One fall afternoon, out of nowhere, Alexa Kinsey suddenly came to the class right next to her during recess. Throughout the lesson, she could not concentrate at all. Her mind flew somewhere, her eyes just staring blankly at the teacher who teaching without really knowing what he was saying.

It wasn't enough that her arrival absorbed the attention of the few students still inside Class A. Her words were far more intriguing as they stopped their activities for a moment. "Can we talk?" asked Alexa as she literally stood next to Jonathan Flint's desk.

Slowly his eyes, which were previously on the math book, turned to her. Of course he stared at the girl in surprise.

And he sighed lightly. "No!" he replied briefly and coldly, not forgetting while throwing his trademark glare that was very annoying.

"Jonathan, just do it." Alexa could hear Kenrich Jackson coaxing Jonathan Flint. Her eyes could also see Kenrich's hand reaching out to pat Jonathan's shoulder lightly, as if trying to give him strength. The power to speak to Alexa? What is Alexa, a bully? Or a troublemaker?

In fact, some of the A class student had labeled her as such. When Jonathan Flint failed to represent their class in the hundred meter race, and the mixed relay. So, before actually entering Class A with confidence, she has been gaining courage over the past few days.

She could see he nodded, not at her but more for Kenrich Jackson.

"Alright, where do you want to talk?" asked him as he straightened up.

"On the roof." Without waiting for an answer from him, she had walked out of the classroom, ignoring the curious gazes of some of the A class student who were known to have far above average intelligence.

She also had to ignore the curious stares along the corridor as she walked with him. Alexa Kinsey could not deny that. Kenrich Jackson, and Jonathan Flint were two friends who had good looks and brilliant brains.

They were always ranked in the top ten, and were good at sports. Although, in comparison, Kenrich Jackson who was known for his friendliness, stood out more than Jonathan Flint, who is a quiet person.

"Hurry up and say it, I don't want to linger here," he said as hugged himself. The autumn wind that afternoon blew very strongly and instantly made both Alexa's and Jonathan's bodies shiver.

She sighed, after looking around to make sure there was no one else on the roof besides the two of them. "I'm sorry, Flint. I'm sorry for injuring your leg. I know my apology won't be able to bring everything back. It won't be able to make Class A win the competition at the sports competition. But if I don't, then I will feel guilty for the rest of my life."

He rolled his eyes. Then returned an annoyed face to her. "You know, my role was quite important during the sports competition?"

"I know," she replied quietly, so quietly that her voice was almost lost in the wind.

"Because of you, class A can't participate in the hundred-meter race. Too bad there wasn't a substitute for me back then," he sighed resentfully.

Since Alexa had nothing to say, Jonathan finally chimed in, "But never mind, just pretend it never happened. My feelings are much lighter when I think like that instead of having regrets," he answered. "And you, please don't bring it up again. Let's pretend that it's really over."

Even when the boy said, he not waving the peace flag, she kept smiling broadly. She had not expected the matter to be resolved so quickly, so she nodded vigorously.

"Take this," she said as she held out the lunch box she had been clutching a few minutes ago.

Jonathan frowned slightly while he looked directly into her amber eyes. He tried to read her mind through her eyes, but he didn't find a single clue, so his eyes moved to the food box he had seen moments ago.

She felt that Jonathan didn't understand her point in suddenly handing over a lunch box. "You said you wanted to pretend that it never happened and that the problem was over, right?" said Alexa. "Take this, so I don't feel guilty anymore. Or you can give it to stray dogs if you don't really want to eat it."

And he still looked confused.

Then the girl returned her words to ease his worries. "I assure you, the flavor will not disappoint. I may not be as smart as you, but I'm sure I'm superior in this field," she said confidently.

"What is this?" asked Jonathan even though he knew it was a lunch box. A flash of memory in spring suddenly came to him.

"Lunch, you can save your pocket money today," she replied while flashing her charming smile. That smile made Jonathan unable to resist the lunch box and hypnotized him for a moment. Before he could open his mouth to refuse, his hand had already extended itself to take over the lunch box.

The frown on his forehead deepened as his eyes stared straight at the lunch box. This was the second time, wasn't it? Although he was quite surprised at Alexa Kinsey's true intentions. Was she just giving it to him for free, without any particular intention?

Still, he smiled as he recalled the memory. "Are you sure this isn't a peanut butter mousse pie?"

It was a relief when she saw the boy's smile for the first time. The butterflies in her stomach suddenly flew and a sense of warmth enveloped her. The chilly autumn air that had made her shiver melted away.

But why was he talking like that? What did he mean by peanut butter mousse pie? Hadn't Alexa said that what was in there was a lunch, not the dessert like pie tart? So why was he mentioning it?

Even though Alexa didn't understand what his meant, she still replied, "No, of course not."

"Ohoy ... the new couple of Eden Hall students," shouted a voice that sounded like more than one person. Alexa gasped, while Jonathan's eyes alertly scanned every corner of the roof.

A raucous burst of laughter from somewhere very loud and nearby greeted Alexa's hearing.

"We're in here!" they shouted simultaneously, accompanied by loud, mocking laughter.

Alexa and Jonathan's instincts led them to link their eyes to a small building, under which was the only access to the roof. On top of the building, it was the most fun place to hide out for students who wanted to skip class, smoke, or just take a nap.

She let out a silly squeal of surprise at their presence, and he blinked in confusion. "They're from your class?"

She shook her head quickly. "I think they're class E students," Alexa guessed uncertainly.

"What are you two doing? Together on the roof? Are you lovers?" the three boys mocked again. Still laughing at each other as if the sight of Alexa and Jonathan talking seriously while enveloped in a tense atmosphere was something to laugh about.

"Oh my, you guys are starting a relationship. A new couple? That's right, a new couple!"
