Chapter 5 Are You Impotent Or Something

"She can't possibly be pregnant," Ryan butted in firmly.

Nadine's smile disappeared, instantly replaced with a look of displeasure as she glared at him. "I wasn't talking to you, you brat! More importantly, you two have been married for so long; what're you waiting for? Are you impotent or something?"

This last comment almost made Jenessa burst into laughter.

Fortunately, she managed to stifle it, though her cheeks turned slightly red.

Ryan, on the other hand, wasn't too pleased, his expression darkening. "We're busy with work, that's all. We don't have time to think about having a baby."

Jenessa silently smiled bitterly.

Ryan probably never even considered having a child with her.

Even in their most passionate of moments, he never forgot to use protection.

However, accidents happened, and now, she was pregnant with his baby.

Thinking of this, Jenessa subconsciously touched her belly with one hand.

"You workaholic, all you ever think about is work!" Without holding back, Nadine criticized Ryan fiercely. "No matter how busy you are, it's your duty to make time for your wife!"

Narrowing her eyes at Ryan, she asked suspiciously, "Tell me, Ryan; have you been neglecting Jenessa?"

Ryan's expression remained unchanged as he calmly replied, "Grandma, you're the one who assigned her as my secretary. We're together almost 24/7. How could I possibly neglect her?"

Still, Nadine seemed dissatisfied with him.

"I made her your secretary so that you could let her shine in the workplace, not so that you could treat her as a maid." She glanced kindly at Jenessa, her expression softening briefly before turning to glare at Ryan. "I know that Jenessa is very capable. You should utilize her talents and give her opportunities to excel."

Suppressing his inner irritation, Ryan responded tersely, his voice sounded a tad bit strained, "I will."

Sensing the rising tension, Jenessa quickly intervened and changed the topic. A few light-hearted remarks had Nadine laughing, easing the atmosphere somewhat.

After a while, Nadine announced that she wanted to get some rest, so the two got up to leave.

Once outside the ward, Jenessa noticed Ryan's displeased expression.

Unable to marry the woman he loved and forced to pretend in front of his grandma, Jenessa guessed, Ryan must be quite unhappy.

Bearing this in mind, Jenessa instinctively distanced herself from him.

But Ryan's frown only deepened as he noticed her retreat.

She was the one who suggested a divorce, wasn't she? He didn't lose his temper with her for this. Yet now, she even refused to stay close to him except when his grandma was around.

Why did she seem to be angry with him?

Back home, Jenessa was about to enter their bedroom when a thought suddenly occurred to her.

Since she and Ryan were getting a divorce, they couldn't keep on sharing a room now, could they?

So, she resolutely turned around to leave, accidentally ramming into Ryan's broad chest.

"Ouch!" Jenessa yelped, quickly stepping back and cradling her aching nose.

Observing her attempt to distance herself from him, Ryan grew more irritated. "Standing at the door without coming inside-what the hell are you thinking?" he asked coldly.

Jenessa hesitated before explaining, "I was going to ask the maid to prepare a guest room for me. Since we're getting a divorce, it's not appropriate to sleep in the same room."

Ryan's expression hardened further.

"Jenessa, you really know how to make things difficult for me," he sneered in a hostile voice.

Jenessa's heart leaped to her throat.

"Wh-what's that supposed to mean?"

Ryan's piercing eyes stared at her intently.

This strange, intense gaze made her heart pound like crazy.

"Must I remind you about our conversation with Grandma?" Ryan uttered each word slowly, eyeing her coldly. "Grandma just questioned our bond, and now you want to sleep in separate rooms. Do you want her to hear about this so that she can take your side? Was that your plan all along?"

Jenessa's breath got caught in her throat, causing her to sputter, "That-that's not what I meant! I-"

But Ryan wasn't listening. His expression stern, he interrupted her harshly, saying, "Whether you mean it or not, you'd better behave from now on. If Grandma gets suspicious again, I won't let you get away with it!"
