Chapter 5 First day at work

Amelia's Point of View

I woke up very early on that Monday morning and started making breakfast. I was done in no time and I quickly took my bath before waking Kelly up.

I brushed her teeth and bathed for her after which she wore her uniform. I managed to grab a bite and quickly dressed for work.

Kelly was to wait for her bus to pick her up that morning. I kissed her cheeks and took the bus to work.

I arrived at work before 7 am and sighed in relief when I noticed the CEO's door was locked. It means he hasn't gotten to work yet.

I checked his schedule for the day and saw that it wasn't much. He only had three meetings and that's all.

I quickly began to work on the files that were given to me by the manager. I was to continue the work that the previous secretary wasn't able to finish.

Mr. Raymond arrived about twenty minutes later and I hurried to make his coffee. Since I worked at a coffee shop before, this was like a bonus to me. Although the way he likes his coffee is different from the usual way, it's not difficult for me.

"What time did you arrive at work today?" he asked after sipping the coffee

"I arrived at 6:49 am" I answered nervously

"6:49 am? That's good for a start! I hope you keep coming early like that to avoid being fired" he said

"I will try my best sir" I said politely

"Have you eaten this morning?" he asked

"Yes sir" I answered

"Wow! You even ate but still came early. Anyway, let's get to work. What do I have on my schedule today?" he asked

"You have a meeting with the shareholders by 9 am this morning. You have lunch with Sofia Richie by noon. And you have a meeting with the new investors by 3 pm. That's all!" I read out from his schedule

"Alright! Prepare the speech for the shareholders meeting and bring it to me in the next thirty minutes. I haven't picked the restaurant for the lunch yet so find a good 5-star restaurant and book a table for us. That's all for now" he said

"I will start working on it right away" I bowed politely and left

This job isn't as easy as I expected it to be. Which job is easy in this world though? I just need to draft a speech within thirty minutes and writing a speech is very easy for me. I know so many restaurants since I worked in one before so it won't be hard too.

It's like the jobs I had before coming here taught me a lot of things. It's good to be experienced in so many areas.

Twenty-five minutes later, I was done with the draft and I took it to Mr. Raymond.

"You are done writing the speech?" he asked in surprise

"Yes sir" I answered

"Wow! I checked your resume and saw that you had good grades in school but I wasn't expecting you to be as diligent and smart as this. I hope we work together for a long time" he smiled

"Thank you sir" I said

"You can go now. We will leave for the meeting in an hour" he said and I left

I continued working on the files on my table until it was exactly an hour time when we went for the meeting with the shareholders.

The shareholders began to murmur within themselves as soon as we got to the meeting room and from the little I heard, they were talking about me.

"You changed your secretary again?" one of them asked Mr. Raymond

"Yes. Do you have a problem with that?" he asked

"No. This secretary looks really beautiful compared to others and I hope she lasts for a while at least" the shareholder said

"Whether she lasts or not has nothing to do with you. Let's get down to business" Mr. Ray said and started the meeting

The meeting lasted for close to an hour and I was standing throughout even though I wore heels. How can they ask me to stand that long?

"How was the meeting?" Mr. Ray asked on our way back to the office

"It was awesome" I said with a forced smile

"You seemed uncomfortable during the meeting. Did your shoe make you uncomfortable?" he asked

"No sir, I'm fine" I lied

"You can wear a shoe that is lower than that so that you won't be too tired when you get home. This is just your first day here" he said

He's right though. Today is my first day and I've only attended one meeting. How am I going to stay for months if my shoes are making me tired in just the first meeting?

But I heard that the CEO of this company has a domineering attitude and that he fires his workers for the slightest mistake.

I don't think that CEO is Mr. Raymond because how can he show concern for me if he has those attitudes that were mentioned?

Anyway, I'm just going to make sure I bring slippers along with me to work so that I will only wear heels to meetings.

"Raymond!!" I heard a familiar voice scream

Mr. Ray was walking ahead of me so he was kind of standing in between me and whoever called him but I was able to steal a glance at whoever it was.

As soon as I saw who it was, my eyes widened in shock and I turned around as fast as I could. How could I ever forget this voice? The voice of the woman who ruined my marriage and made me a single mom.

I kept walking nonstop even though Mr. Raymond was calling out to me. The last thing I want to do is face my past right now.

I know it wasn't easy to get this job but it still doesn't matter. I don't want to ever see Alice again if possible but I'm surprised to see her here. I just hope she didn't realize that I was the one since Mr. Raymond mentioned my name.

I know she's still in a relationship with Sean but what is she doing here? It's not like she came here for modelling so could it be that she's dating Sean and Raymond at the same time?

As soon as Alice left the company, Mr. Raymond called me into his office. I won't get fired for this right?

"What was the meaning of what you did back there? I was calling out to you but you pretended not to hear and just walked away" Mr. Raymond asked

He seems to be very angry but I can't tell him about the relationship between Alice and me because it will make him angrier. I'm supposed to separate my personal life from work by all means but look at what I did on just my first day.

"I'm really sorry sir. I suddenly had cramps because of my period and it was hard for me to stand straight. I didn't want you to see me in that condition and I also didn't want to embarrass you in front of your guest so I couldn't answer you" I lied

"Y...you had cramps? Are you okay now?" he asked with so much concern in his voice

I can bet my all that this isn't the same CEO everyone has been complaining about. It's not possible that he changed overnight or is it?

"I'm fine sir. I rested enough so I'm okay now" I faked a smile

"Alright. For the lunch I'm having this afternoon, you don't have to come with me. Just make sure you get enough rest" he said

"Thank you sir" I smiled and left his office

What will happen if he finds out I lied to him because of my relationship with Alice? I just have to hope he doesn't find out.
