Chapter Four

Even when I adore the idea of working, I think about my child who is just days old. I can't leave him to work in the office, it's either I take the child along to the company or I stay at home with him.

I went to sleep and the next morning, I was in the kitchen, preparing breakfast for Nathan, so he could eat before heading to work.

"Why are you not dressed?" Nathan asked.

"Dressed? How? I am preparing breakfast for you to eat before going to work"

"What about what I discussed with you yesterday, I told you that I would be needing you at work as my personal assistant"

"Why? You have one and I have always heard good things about him, why do you want me to be your personal assistant? Talk to me"

"Are you questioning my idea? That's what I want and that's final"

"I am aware about that darling, but what about our son? Remember he's only days old, we can't leave him in the care of the maids, it's too early for that Nathan, "

"But that's what I want?"

"Okay, how about taking him along to work?"

"And is that professional? Taking a baby to work?"

"Nathan, please calm, you know how much I have been looking for a child, now that I have seen, you should know I would go miles to protect my baby, I can't trust him to any maid"

"Are you saying you don't trust my maids?"

"No, I didn't mean it that way, I mean I can't leave him to them"

"But that's what I want, so I think, do I just say I think? I know there's nothing you can do about it, this is the work I get money from, you never spend a dime on the wedding ceremony, I did, all with the money coming from this work, so what's the big deal of you becoming a personal assistant? Is there? Because of a child?"

"Do you just say it's because of a child? Because of our child? Is work more precious than our child?"

"Rachel, go and dress up now, I have never questioned your parenting, this is about our livelihood"

How can he not understand? Our child is our top priority, not this job.

How can I trust his maids? I don't even know their intention.

I thought he was caring, how would he choose his work over our son? Our son needs us, especially me.

"If I knew you would treat me like this, I wouldn't have married you" Ariana's voice trembled, the hurt and disappointment evident in her words.

"I was alone, when you came to meet me, you betrayed your own sister by seducing her husband, and you made me marry you"

"Is that what you think of me? You needed a child and I got pregnant for you, this is Amelia" She said carrying her child.

"Who told you I and Rachel haven't found a solution to our problem before you came in? We already planned on having a child through surrogacy, and you and your family came in to our matter, I wonder why you all betrayed the lady that had work for years to provide food on the table, the lady that single handedly sponsored you to the university while she stays at home"

Ryan's accusation was like a thunderclap to her, she replied with shock, holding her daughter tightly to her chest.

"But there's nothing you could do, you want people to make mockery of us? You know that's not possible, so this marriage is for better for worst"

"For better or worse? It's affecting my marriage, my peace of mind is important, this marriage isn't giving me peace, I feel like I am being trapped into this, does your family use anything on me..."

"What are you saying, Ryan?" She napped. "You think my family would do something like that? They love you, they love me, you are part of our family now, whether you like it or not, and do not think of leaving me or our daughter"

"Really? I am part of your family? What about Rachel? Isn't she? Do you people even care where she's? Do you know what's going on with her? Your family? Isn't a good one, I'll say"

"My family isn't good?" Ariana snapped back, her voice rising in defense. "You married our first born, our family isn't good, you still go ahead to marry the second born, yet our family isn't good"

"When I got married to Rachel, my company is going smoothly, and now that she married our rival, Nathan, the company has been in number one, Ariana I regretted leaving Rachel to marry you"

"And I regretted marrying you too, my sister had always tell me good things about you and this family, your family never loved me, they don't love my daughter, you are always busy going after your company, giving me less attention, or you don't know I am aware that you are in a relationship with Becca, your friend?"

"You know? You know because I didn't hide it, if I don't want you to know that, I would have hide it, she's giving me peace just like Rachel is doing, that's why I love to be with her, you never cared about me or my finances, all you care for is money, for me to get you cars and houses, just to show off"

"Didn't you give my sister when you were married to her? She wouldn't ask you and you would give her, why is it that I must ask before you give, you didn't even consider that I got pregnant for you, I have a child for you, if I knew this is how the marriage will be, I wouldn't have come after you"

"Your sister never asked and I did that because she deserved it, if I have opportunity to be with her again, I will be so glad"
