Chapter 4 Four

Stacy saw the car drive away and sighed again. She didn't feel any better, she felt worse instead. As she got to the porch of her house, the door opened and a frantic Theresa ran out. Stacy stopped abruptly, memories of the incident at the party flooding into her head. At that moment, her sister was the last person Stacy wanted to see.

" Stacy, where the hell were you? Do you know how worried I was? And where did you keep your phone?" Theresa rattled, all in one go.

Stacy said nothing so she continued,

" Stacy, how could you be so careless? You're not a child, you can't just go missing like that. You could have at least called"

When Stacy still said nothing, Theresa walked closer to her sister, her worry doubling.

" What is wrong? Are you not going to say anything? Are you now dumb or something? Did something happen to you? Stacy, please say something"

She made to place her hand on Stacy's shoulder but stopped when Stacy took a step backward.

" Stacy, what's wrong?"

Stacy swallowed. She didn't know what to say or how to say it. There was a huge burden on her chest that she just wanted to let out but at that moment, she had no idea how to do that.

" I ummm..." she started but trailed off. Theresa noticed she was looking everywhere else but at her.

" I would like to go inside and have some rest, if you'd let me" Stacy finally said. Her tone was curt, which surprised Theresa even more. Did she do something wrong by being concerned?

Without waiting for a response, Stacy walked past her into the house and went straight up to her room.

Stacy was upset, hurt, and confused. She didn't know how to bring up the matter to her sister without being pitiful. She didn't know if she even had to bring it up. Theresa would never hurt her like that. Maybe she had been hallucinating, she was probably delusional from all the drinks she had taken. But she knew Theresa no matter where she saw her and there was no way the person she saw wasn't her. It had been her sister who was in that hot moment with the man who broke her and shattered her heart into pieces. Why would Theresa do something like that? She knew how hurt Stacy had been after Joey ditched her. And she knew Stacy was still struggling to get over him. Then why would she be comfortable being in any environment Joey was in, not to mention on his lap? No reason would validate what Theresa had done to her sister but Stacy wanted to hear something, even though it was an excuse. She just wanted to have a reason to not hate her sister cause at that moment, she was sure she did.

So with that resolution, Stacy unlocked her door and made her way back to the living room where Theresa sat. She stood up as soon as she saw her.

" Stacy, I was so worried about you last night. People said they saw you leave with Andre Rosello, is that true? What were you doing with him? Stacy, you have to be careful, yunno" Theresa began. Stacy stared blankly at her, calculating several ways in her brain to let what she was feeling out.

" How long have you been seeing him, Theresa?" Stacy asked.

" What? Who are you talking about?" Theresa said, her brows furrowed in that confused expression.

" You know exactly who I'm talking about"

" Stacy..."

" I just need an answer. How long have you been seeing Joey?" Stacy blurted out.

" Holy shit!" Theresa exclaimed.

" What? Shocked that I know about it?"

" Stacy, it was just at the party I swear"

Stacy shook her head, shutting her eyes to stop the tears.

" No...no, I'm not going to believe that"

" Stacy...

" You were on his fucking laps, you were kissing Joey, the Joey that broke my heart into pieces, the Joey whom you swore to kill if you ever set your eyes on him, you were rocking him, that Joey"

" Stacy, please... it's not what you think. I... I can explain, just listen to me"

" I'm listening. Lie to me, go on"

" Stacy, I can't lie to you. It was... it was a dare. They dared me to do it, I didn't just kiss him. I had no choice"

Stacy chuckled bitterly. She wanted an excuse but this... was unbelievable.

" You think I'm that stupid?" She mumbled.

" No... Stacy, I don't"

" What do you think I am? 12? You think I don't know that there's always an alternative to every dare given in that stupid game?"

" Stacy, I couldn't get drunk. I had to take you home..."

" Oh please! Please... cut me some slack, will you?" Stacy yelled, she couldn't hold back the tears that were pouring.

" Don't try to blackmail me with the whole caring sister shit. I told you I didn't want to be at that party but you dragged me there and left me standing in the middle of drunk men. Why the hell did you even take me there? To see you share saliva with my fucking boyfriend?" She continued.

" He's your ex!" Theresa said, her voice surprisingly as loud as Stacy's.

" Joey is your ex-boyfriend. So what if I kissed him? There were no feelings attached, okay? I just did it. I was drunk. I didn't know what I was doing. And I did not know you would see that." Theresa let out.

Stacy opened her mouth to say something but then stopped. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.

" I can't believe you, Theresa" she mumbled.

" Look Stacy, you're supposed to be over this guy. It's been four months now. Why can't you get your ass to move on and let him be for someone else?" Theresa spewed, shocking Stacy even more.

" Someone else? You're someone else?"

" I never said that Stacy. I'm just saying, it shouldn't matter to you that Joey is hooking up with another girl, you should move on"

" So you're hooking up with him? Oh my God!" Stacy cried.

" Stacy..."

" Well, it matters to me, Theresa. It matters to me. I haven't moved on and it matters to me, especially when my sister, the only family I have is the girl that jerk is hooking up with"Shee stopped as the tears fell.

" How could you betray me like this Theresa? "

" Stacy, I didn't betray you"

" You know what hurts more than seeing you all smooshy with Joey, it's the fact that you can't let go of your pride and accept you're wrong"

" This is not pride Stacy. I am just stating facts"

" Well... you want me to tell you a real fact? You're a shady piece of backstabbing trash and I hate you" Stacy spurted.

" Oh no you don't! I am all you've got. You're nothing without me, Stacy. Stop being an ungrateful wretch" Theresa retorted.

" Dad would be so disappointed in you Theresa" Stacy mumbled and stormed back to her room, slamming the door shut and locking it.

Theresa forcefully wiped the tears that had fallen from her eyes at Stacy's last statement. She hadn't meant for things to go this way. She never intended for Stacy to find out about her and Joey. And everything she said was out of anger. She wished she had taken things more lightly but Stacy had riled her up saying all those things. She had nothing to apologize for. There was nothing wrong with being with the one you love.

Theresa sighed. Stacy would come around. She always did. Theresa thought! How wrong she was this time.

Stacy sat behind the closed door, her knees to her chest as the tears fell. She couldn't believe Theresa had said all those things to her. She couldn't believe it hadn't been just a kiss and that were hooking up. Surely her sister did do a lot of unbelievable things but this was totally out of it. How could she? Now, Stacy wished she hadn't even brought up the topic. She wanted an excuse to not hate her sister but she had gotten a reason to hate her instead.
