Chapter 5 .

Two days had passed and there was still no word on whether Lucas had signed the papers. It seemed the other party didn't want to make it easy for us. My lawyer advised me to use the precise reason I want to end my relationship with him, which was adultery, and we took the issue to court to help us with the process.

They appealed and made a statement that I was the one creating stories because I only want money, but for Pete's sake! They were trying to turn the story to make him look like he was the victim.

I even wanted to believe the chance he was asking for was genuine, even though his voice lacked sincerity that day. But now - how could I believe him? And during those two days of me waiting, I never heard from him.

Just today, I received a message from an employee in their company the other day that Diane had been visiting Lucas in his office.

I couldn't believe that she had such an audacity to show her face in a place that was once my territory. They were not scared to show to people that there was someone behind why I suddenly left that company and asked for a divorce from my husband.

It was annoying and made my blood boil every time I remember the day I saw them, but there was nothing I could do about it anymore. I was just waiting for him to sign the paper or the court's approval and after - I would be nowhere for him to find.

Another message arrived. It seemed Lucas and his dad fought in the office. According to the message, they heard shouts and broken glasses. Lucas went out of his father's office looking like a mess.

As if I care, but - I received several calls from Lucas. None of those were answered. When I got annoyed, I blocked the number. It was impossible that he needed something related to work. I didn't go into the office to avoid seeing him. I wouldn't be needed there because the files they needed were on the table and I had emailed Lucy all the things I was working on.

The same day, while we were having lunch outside, I received a call from Lucy. I thought of answering in front of my parents, thinking that she might need something important.

"Hello, Lu-"

"Did you block me, Elyana?" I was interrupted by an angry bird.

It was a man speaking from the other line. Even though he wouldn't introduce himself, I already knew who it was.

I was about to end the call, but suddenly he spoke again. "Don't you ever dare to end the call, Elyana!"

My heart sank when I heard his voice, but not because I missed him. He woke up from the pain of what he did to me and the destruction of our marriage. I wanted to hurt him if only he was in front of me, to lessen the weight in my chest, for betraying me and for breaking the vows he made during our wedding.

'How dare he raise his voice against me when he owes me a lot?' I thought.

I tried to be still. Not to cry. I had shed too many tears for him in the past day to waste another. Also, I was in a public place and maybe someone would recognize me there.

I took a deep breath to calm myself down. My parents turned their heads to me because of that. Their eyes were asking questions, but when I opened my lips to answer the person on the other line, their questions were answered.

"There's nothing we need to talk about, Lucas. Sign the paper and you're free to do all you want. I know those papers won't matter that much to you," I uttered and made sure no one else around heard-just the man on the other line and my parents sitting with me at the table. Great thing because we were seated in the restaurant's corner.

"I know you know the reason we need to talk about this, right? You know the law in England for divorce." I suddenly grinned.

In England, they no longer consider adultery as a crime, but for that same reason, they could file a divorce. The assets of both will be combined and split into half. He wouldn't just get away with this because of evidences I have. If my assets were worth billions of dollars, Lucas had more than that.

"Have you ever thought of that before you started sleeping with her?" To my annoyance, I asked him that. My parents just looked at me silently, but I felt they were cheering for me.

"Listen! This is not the right time and place to talk about these matters. I will return Lucy's phone, just agree and let's meet somewhere. Give the time and place-"

"I don't want to see you, wherever this will take us, be it. You deserve it, Lucas," I interrupted him with this and didn't hesitate to press end on the screen after.

'Guess who's in charge? Does he think I need the money that I could get from him? I don't need money! I want to get away from him, to be free!'

If I could just shout what was on my mind inside the restaurant, I would have done it, but that was not the place because his father has many eyes around.

After that conversation, my cellular phone rang again. I saw Lucy's registered number, knowing it was Lucas again-I didn't answer it and left the phone inside the bag in silent mode.

'He will suffer. No matter what he does, my decision is final.'

I saw how proud my parents were while looking at me. My mom was about to cry.

"Mom, don't tell me you will cry here," I asked jokingly. My mother's appearance and the way she looked at me made me want to laugh.

I just wanted to lighten the mood. It was a stressful day, and I knew they were feeling the same way.

"I'm just so happy you're so brave, my daughter," she answered, and the tears in the corner of her eyes began falling.

While Mom was crying, dad was stroking her back and later added what my mother said, "I'm also glad that you have so much courage to leave that man after what you saw, just by that you already made us proud. You did nothing absurd that will make things harder not only for you but for us, your parents. You're indeed smart, Elyana." Dad smiled at me.

He was right. I didn't do anything wrong. I kinda regretted that I only threw their clothes into the river. There were no clothes available in the resthouse. I wasn't sure if there were any towels as well. They were lucky if they were.

We continued eating our lunch. We went back to the hotel after a short walk in a park. I had an appointment with my lawyer and I would go to his office. I insisted on going alone so that my parents could rest.

From the hotel room, I took the elevator down to the lobby. It was empty, so I stood right in the middle. I pressed the L and waited for the doors to close. Right when it shut, I saw my reflection. I noticed my sleeve was a little crooked, so I fixed it before anyone saw it that way.

"Better," I said when I finished and forced a smile.

My eyebags were getting bigger and if I hadn't put on lipstick, it would have been obvious how pale it was. I sighed.

'I hope everything will get better soon.' This was exactly what I was thinking when the elevator door opened. My jaw almost dropped when I saw the man standing right in front of me. He was the very last person I would ask to see ever again.

If I was surprised to see him, Lucas's gaze was like a dagger causing me to step back into the elevator.

"H-How did you find me?" I stuttered out of surprise because he had tracked down which hotel I was in.

"That's not important. Let's talk!" He ordered me. He tried grabbing my arm, but I was faster than him. I got away immediately and made a distance.

I quickly exited the elevator and left him inside. He quickly chased after me and blocked my path. He doesn't seem to care, even if people might see us.

"I already said no, Lucas. Leave and give me the paper signed as soon as possible! And don't make a scene here. I won't think twice about calling the security," I warned him, but I was shaking in anger already..

"Do you think I fear being dragged out by them? I could even call the owner and tell him to kick his security right now if I want to," he replied while grinning devilishly.

I almost forgot that some business executives here in England were almost his father's puppies, and it seemed he wanted to tell me he had that kind of power over these business owners as well.

"But your father doesn't have control over the cops, right? So as you." His expression changed when I mentioned that. A sarcastic question and it seemed his silence meant yes.

"Am I right?" I asked teasingly, and I realized that was the perfect moment to smirk. So, I did.

"You will call the cop? For what reason, harassment?" He raised his eyebrows and asked me and the devilish grin on his lips came back.

"More than that if you'll try to lay your filthy hands on me. You don't know what a brat like me could do, Lucas. So, get out of my way and stop showing around and calling me. I don't need your money. Just sign the paper and send it back to my lawyer's office. Once the process is done, I will only take what's mine." I saw how he froze when I expressed that right on his face. I knew he wasn't expecting it.

I was surprised. I didn't break down in front of him. Since I didn't hear any words from him anymore, I turned around and walked as fast as I could. Luckily, he didn't chase after it, but I felt torn inside because he didn't.
