Chapter 5 Just So-so

Devin suddenly felt a wave of panic, quickly letting go of Linsey's arm. He flashed a charming smile, nodding and giving a quick bow to Bryson in apology.

"Mr. Higgins, it's all a big misunderstanding. I was just playing around with Miss Wheeler!" Devin argued for himself.

Bryson glanced at Devin with a cold look and said simply, "Get lost."

Devin didn't wait around, hurrying off as fast as he could.

Bryson then turned to see Linsey still there, her eyes red and wide like a frightened rabbit.

Her collar was undone, showing off the hickeys from the night before. They marked her once flawless skin, evidence of his uncontrolled passion.

Bryson's mind was suddenly filled with images of the previous night, making him feel a strange dryness in his mouth.

Linsey had an undeniable charm that could stir deep desires in a man.

But as soon as Bryson realized what he was thinking, his mood turned icy. "Cover yourself up!"

Jolted back to the present, Linsey noticed her upper chest was exposed. Blushing, she quickly buttoned up her shirt.

She was safe now, but her thoughts were racing with another worry. Did Bryson hear her claim to be his wife?

Linsey cautiously looked up at his face, trying to read his expression. He seemed normal. Well, maybe he didn't hear. She let out a silent sigh of relief.

But her relief was short-lived. Bryson's voice, laced with sarcasm, reached her ears. "Moving on to someone new already? You're not picky, are you?"

Linsey's expression turned into a slight frown. Did he get it wrong again?

With patience, she clarified, "You've got it all wrong. Devin's a client at my company. I never thought he'd try something sneaky."

She hadn't anticipated Devin's bold move, drugging her and trying to force himself on her.

Bryson just gave her a cold look and said with a hint of sarcasm, "Where there's smoke, there's fire. You should look at yourself and not rely on your looks to get ahead. You might not be so fortunate next time."

Linsey's appreciation for his help disappeared instantly.

"Don't be so rude!" she snapped. "Remember, only I can crack your company's cases. Next time you need me, I might not be so willing to help!"

With those words, she left in a rage.

Bryson watched her leave, his face showing disdain. How capable could a woman who used any means for money be?

Just then, Asher called. Bryson answered, and Asher asked directly, "Bryson, how did it go with Linsey?"

Bryson responded with a cold huff, "Not great. Don't introduce me to such a shady woman again."

Asher, sounding confused, asked, "Is there some misunderstanding?"

Bryson's mind replayed the previous night's intimate moments with Linsey and Linsey's recent entanglement with Devin. He felt strangely annoyed.

Regaining his composure, Bryson replied coldly, "No misunderstanding. I just don't think she's better than my legal team."

Asher stood up for Linsey. "She's a top lawyer at Paramountcy Law Firm. She's really good. You may not see it now, but you'll understand once you work with her."

Bryson felt a twitch in his brow. He knew Asher was talking about business, but his thoughts wandered. He had already "worked with her."

Bryson remembered the soft touch, the image of her in bed last night, making him tense.

He cleared his throat and said in a lower voice, "She is just so-so."
