Chapter 5 Future Mother-In-Law.

"Who's there, Kaylee?"

"Mom... It's Aunt Kristina."

"Did this girl forget her keys again? Always so scatterbrained."

But when Lorelei turned around, she was somewhat startled. Standing in front of her was not only her goldfish-brained daughter Kristina but also another man. However... who was this familiar-looking man?

"Kristina, he is...?"

Before Kristina could speak, Ethan firmly took her hand, bowed his head as a form of greeting, and said:

"Hello future mother-in-law, I am Ethan, Kristina's soon-to-be husband."

At that moment, seeing her mother's expression, Kristina knew she will die.

But wait a minute, two minutes, then five minutes... Lorelei showed no signs of an extreme reaction, not even a scream. She looked at her, then at him, and said:

"Sit down, let's talk."

Huh? Isn't mom's reaction a bit too calm? Does this mean... I'm getting married? I'm being given away in marriage? How can mom be so calm about this?

Now, Kristina got water for him, and in the living room, only Lorelei and Ethan were left, facing each other. She softly said:

"You're Kendall's uncle, aren't you?"

"Correct."

"So, you know about Kristina and Kendall's relationship?"

Ethan nodded.

"Knowing that, why do you still want to marry her?"

Ethan glanced at the kitchen, then honestly said:

"Firstly, I want to marry Kristina because her fate is very suitable to bring happiness to our family. Secondly, even if she was Kendall's ex-wife, it wouldn't matter, let alone just his ex-girlfriend. Thirdly, I can promise you, she will not regret marrying me."

Lorelei had heard about Ethan from her son, Andy Dean, and her late husband. Ethan was a man of integrity, decisive in his actions, and a gentleman. Marrying Kristina to him wouldn't be a bad idea... It's just...

"Don't you think... Kristina will be in a difficult position? After all, she and Kendall's family were acquainted."

Ethan just smiled and said:

"Maegan really likes her, and so does father. I believe with Kristina's intelligence, she won't suffer any loss."

"But she and Kendall were together for nine years, there must be some residual feelings, aren't you pushing her into a difficult situation?"

It seemed he understood why Kristina wanted to refuse when he said he wanted to speak directly to Lorelei. A glance was enough to see that this future mother-in-law was extremely protective of her daughter, and her words were sharp, one had to be careful not to be caught off guard.

However, Ethan was determined to marry Kristina, no matter the difficulty!

"Nine years of relationship, but Kristina was still very calm when she met Kendall and that girl again, showing she is strong... And if she isn't strong, she still has me to rely on."

Lorelei smiled, these were the words she wanted to hear from her future son-in-law. Before, she had asked Kendall a few times, but he either genuinely didn't understand or pretended not to, always giving irrelevant answers.

"So, when will the Chavaz family come over?"

"Whenever you wish, mother-in-law."

"Pick a day then, I'm fine with anything."

"Understood."

Waiting for Ethan and Lorelei to finalize the details, Kristina then stepped into the living room, where the atmosphere had drastically changed from before. Instead of being charged with tension, it seemed her mother had become much more amiable.

Lorelei, seeing her daughter approach, nudged her towards him, saying:

"As you're about to get married, just sit next to each other, what's there to be shy about?"

"Mom... You mean... You agree?"

"Yes, getting rid of a ticking time bomb like you is a relief for me."

Kristina pouted a bit, but Kaylee, standing beside her, could only smile and shake her head. Their mother might talk tough, but letting go of her beloved daughter like Kristina wouldn't be easy. Just wait and see, on the day she gets married, Lorelei would surely be the one crying the most.

Sitting back and chatting for a while, Lorelei even suggested Ethan stay for dinner with the family, to which he agreed. Now, with nothing else to do but wait for Andy to return so they could eat, Lorelei suggested Kristina take him up to rest in her room.

Initially, Kristina intended to lead him to the guest room, but Lorelei shouted from downstairs:

"Kristina, take Ethan to your room, I've used the guest room for storage!"

Kristina could only sigh and then led him into her room. Being an elementary school teacher, her room was surrounded by books and more books.

Sitting down on the bed, Ethan noticed a photo at the bedside, a picture of Kristina during her university years, looking adorable then and now both beautiful and charming.

But while he sat there, Kristina busied herself with some cleaning, eventually pulling out a large bag of items, placing it in front of him, saying:

"Take these gifts back to Kendall, I'm not keeping any of it."

"If he's already given them to you, just accept them. If you hate them, burn them, why return them?"

"Ethan, you really do spend money like it's nothing, huh? This stuff is all branded, selling it could fetch a good sum."

He just smiled, looking at her with a somewhat amused expression, saying:

"But that's Kendall's money, let it be, it's not mine."

"Ethan, you're really...!"

Kristina didn't want to argue with him anymore, he was right... There's no use teaching the wealthy how to spend their money. His family is rich, everyone in his family is wealthy, so they don't care, but she's poor and she really needs the money! These were memories of her and Kendall, she had hesitated to use them over the years, and now throwing them away seemed wasteful... So she decided she would sell them.

Seeing her hesitate, initially thinking Kristina still harbored feelings for her past, he then saw her divide the items into two small boxes, clearly labeled: one for charity and the other for sale. Ethan looked at her differently, saying:

"You plan to give them to charity?"

"Yes, these clothes might be high-end, but selling them would just mean more money for me. Instead, giving them to charity means those who need them can take them, and those who want to can sell them."
