Chapter 4 Four

CHAPTER 4

First Step Hospital, Seattle.

Alexandra Lee Moran, a 25-year-old model and Louis Harrison's girlfriend, came to the hospital with her manager Charlie.

She wore a knee-length black A-line dress with long sleeves and a small mesh fascinator hat that covered the right side of her broad forehead. Charlie, meanwhile, looked formal in a striking golden long shirt as usual.

"Alexandra, why did you come here?" Matthew was flabbergasted by Alexandra's sudden presence. He was worried that she would be hurt again if she saw Louis Harrison. "Did you... hear our conversation?"

Alexandra then looked at Charlie. "Charlie, can you go get me a drink?"

Which actually sounded like Charlie-can-you-go-because-there's-something-we-want-to-talk-about-and-you-don't-need-to-hear in the feminine man's ears. Understanding the situation and his position that had nothing to do with Louis, Charlie finally could only nod obediently and waltzed away from the autopsy room.

"Uncle, is everything she said true?"

Matthew looked at Noel and then at Alexandra awkwardly. He just felt bad if he had to say hurtful things in front of the woman so loved by his own son. Louis' departure on their wedding day must have been a heavy burden for Alexandra. Then how would she bear another wound if she knew that Louis had been killed by someone?

"I've been standing at that intersection since earlier and I heard everything," Alexandra continued emotionally. Her eyes heated up and tears welled up in her eyes. "Did Louis not die in an accident but was murdered?"

The fat man then hugged Alexandra compassionately. While gently rubbing the back of his future daughter-in-law, Matthew said, "You shouldn't hear anything today."

Alexandra's tears broke out instantly. Her tears spilled over her future father-in-law's expensive suit for a few moments. It was probably about two minutes, until Alexandra's anguished screams completely subsided and the woman broke the hug. She wiped her wet cheeks and tried to catch her ragged breath. Despite her sobs, Alexandra was still able to continue her words and speak out. "Who did this to my beloved?" Alexandra stared irritably at Noel and Smith. "Didn't either of you find out? I heard someone reported it and you two checked it out that night. The culprit is still there and you saw him, right?"

Noel and Smith were silent as they looked guiltily at Alexandra. After all, if only the two men had hurried up and arrived earlier, maybe Louis' life could still be saved or at least they could find out who did this heinous thing to the Harrison family's main heir.

Seeing that the two policemen said nothing, Alexandra became angry and approached Noel. She grabbed the detective by both shirt collars and stared at him straight on. "Say something! Why are you guys keeping quiet?!"

Smith tried to clear up the misunderstanding and restrained Alexandra's hands before she could rip Noel's best shirt with her hands. "Miss, please stop," he said trying to stop Alexandra. The girl was going crazy and continued to tug at the collar of Noel's shirt until she was tossing and turning. "You can't make a scene in the hospital or the police will arrest you."

Alexandra turned quickly to Smith. He glared like a demon possessed man and removed both hands from Noel's clothes. "The police will arrest me? Was that your job all along?" Smith bit his lip, feeling guilty for making things worse with his words just now. He lowered his head briefly before daring to look at the woman in front of him. "You're going to arrest a woman who has just been abandoned by her lover instead of arresting the perpetrator, is that it?"

"That's not it, sorry," Smith said regretfully.

"Do you know how I feel right now?" Alexandra gave a short snort and removed the fascinator hat from her head and threw it in a random direction. "Louis and I are supposed to be husband and wife, tomorrow is our wedding day. I've prepared everything and we were supposed to be happy.

But now what's happened? Instead I saw her boyfriend die in an accident that was actually a premeditated murder. How do you think I'm not upset and sad?!"

Matthew let out a long sigh as Alexandra burst into tears again. "Alexandra, let's let Louis leave this world in peace."

The woman turned her head. Staring at her future father-in-law in surprise. "How... can you do that, Uncle?"

Then Noel interjected, "We'll investigate the case and catch the culprit for you, sir." with confidence. So Alexandra drew her gaze to the detective. "Let us do it, give us that one precious chance and we'll do our best."

"Uncle?"

Again, Matthew just sighed and looked at Alexandra sadly. "My business colleagues would feel threatened if they knew that my son was killed by someone," he explained. "Those people would probably stop their investments and stop all the cooperation we've agreed on out of fear."

Alexandra approached Matthew and held his hand gently. She then looked at the man labeled as the richest man in the city of Seattle expectantly. "Give them one chance, Uncle," she pleaded. "Let them both make up for their negligence with something. At least, that's what we can do for Louis on the day of his death."

Matthew looked past Noel to Smith before removing his hand from Alexandra and shoving it into his pants pocket. "How much confidence do you have in catching the culprit?"

Smith replied. "Noel is a police officer with good credentials recognized by the city of New York. I'm sure we'll be able to solve this case soon if you give us a chance."

"Uncle, I'll make sure the culprit is caught and punished accordingly," Alexandra said determinedly. "I'll risk my life to catch him."

"Catch him?" asked Noel in confusion. "What's your plan?"

Alexandra rolled her eyes lazily and crossed her arms over her chest. "What do you think? I'm obviously going to join this investigation to catch the culprit."

Noel frowned and stared at the woman before him in disbelief. Even with Smith gaping next to her. "You-you what?" said Noel in surprise. "How are you going to catch her in that short dress and troublesome accessories, huh?"

"Are you underestimating me?"

Before things could get too heated, Matthew interrupted them. "Fine, I'll allow it."

Which immediately made the three people turn their heads in disbelief. Alexandra smiled happily while Noel and Smith were confused.

"Really?" Alexandra asked for confirmation.

"Yes, with some conditions."

Smith bent his forehead deeply. "What conditions, sir?"

"One, I will still say that my son had an accident in the press to protect my company and two, you have only two months to investigate this case. Are you willing to put up with my conditions?" []
