Chapter 3 Disappointed by the Billionaire

Adrienne's POV

"I was only shot, not paralyzed" Gideon grunted and rolled his eyes. My heart skipped funnily as I felt his behaviour cute. My body relaxed as I wondered if it was usual for him to experience this since he said it like it was nothing. Is he not frightened about death?

"You should have gotten your guards on alert all the time when you knew the place was dangerous. Are you not intimidated by getting slaughtered? It must be really hard to be cautious, but I can't conclude. After all, you choose that life for yourself." I pointed out with a pitiful look at him as my eyes sighted the bandaged bruise caused by the bullet on his right arm.

"Oh oh...Why do you sound like those typical overprotective wives? Or you want to be mine?" he beamed with a faint smirk while I looked away in disgust.

"I would rather go back to my ex than do that!" I spat.

Gideon was quiet as his face went blank. The impressed expression vanished from his face as I squinted my eyes to look at him. "Do you love your ex that much?" he finally questions.

"I..."

"Let me see a picture of him?" he urged.

"Why do you think I would show you?" I grimaced.

"I want to know if he is worth it," he insisted.

"No. I am not showing you his picture" I declined. "You know what? Let's quit the conversation about my personal life" I stood up and rubbed my palms nervously as I scanned the clock to check the time.

"It's almost..." I was saying when the acting C.E.O of the hospital strolled in with the other Doctors. I shifted away from Gideon and bowed to the C.E.O. in respect.

"You can leave," The C.E.O dismissed. I sniffed in dread as I walked towards the entrance. I heard the beginning of the conversation when the C.E.O apologises while referring to me as a low-status Nurse.

Really? Just because they see a wealthy man?

Everything weighed on me as the clock on the passage continued to tick. It felt like my moment of living was limited. I vowed to myself not to go back to those devils on the island even if it meant that I would reside in the hospital for the rest of my life. I sighed in distress and wandered out of the space to meet the other Nurses.

They scurried to my side and gaped at me in a confused manner. "Thank goodness you are in one piece! The C.E.O. has threatened us for allowing only you to stay with Mr Magnus! How was he?" Lilia queries and hollered while another colleague positioned her hand on her mouth to hush her words.

"How was he?" Danika asked while the others focused their attention on me.

"He wasn't that ominous. He was presumably lenient because of his ailment." I wave my hand for them to spare me some space to breathe. If only these people knew that I might not be present at work today.

They moved out of the way, but still followed me behind "Not because of his ailment. The junior assigned with you told us that he signaled her to stop when she was trying to caution you from lamenting about your..your.." Lilia stuttered nervously.

"About my cheating boyfriend," I finished her sentence as I felt a pang of hurt and humiliation spread across my chest.

"Yes. Mr. Gideon Magnus had even applauded me for my professionalism. He mentioned that I was the first lady not to tremble at the sight of him. He admires me for that" I tried to divert their attention from my dilemma, but it only got worse.

They all shouted "Wow!" in admiration even though the jealousy on their faces was obvious.

"He was clueless about the fact that you were in dismay for your cheating man and it had got you regaled to be aware of things around you," Danika muttered and others hummed in agreement. She stared at me with a farce expression. It made me wish to bounce on her and rip off her tongue.

"What is going on here?" The C.E.O yelled.

We all scurried away like ants whose nest was disassembled. "Except you, Miss Adrienne. Meet me in my office" he commanded and I froze on the spot.

I slowly composed myself and followed him behind until we got to his office. He instructed me to sit on his guest chair as he settled on his. God knows I have never entered the C.E.O.'s office ever since I got employed in this hospital. My last destination was the assistant manager's office.

"Mr. Gideon Magnus informed me that you told him to hire you as his Nurse" he began, jerking me out of my thoughts.

"Sir," I creased my brows in confusion.

"You don't have to pretend. I have already agreed to his decision, but I just hope you are aware of the fact that you will be at his service anytime he needs you. You will be relocating to another city where he will provide shelter and other necessities for you. Trust me, this is a lifetime opportunity" the old man said without taking a breath.

I was stupefied.

"Sir...I can't. I mean....I didn't..." I tried to let out a word but nothing sensible came out of my mouth.

"His cars are aligned outside and are ready to go. If you notice his health requires intensive care, be confident enough to notify him. You do not want to experience the consequences of an erroneous job. You've proved how competent you are for him to accept you. Also...continue to make us proud" Mr.Gerold continued to appreciate and advise me. He ignored the horrified expression on my face as he urged me to go and join the car driving Mr. Gideon.

Are these people joking? I did not sign any documents that would be evidence that I was assigned to a special task. Another reason for me to dislike the people in power. I got angered as I forced my legs out of the building to move towards the car I was instructed to stride into. I didn't even take anything I owned in the hospital aside from my phone that had been in my scrub-suit front pocket.

I folded my hands and frowned my face immediately after I got into the luxurious car. "Don't drive yet" I glared at the chauffeur who looked at me like I had grown two horns on my forehead. He attempted to start the car when I screamed again, "Stop the car!"
