Chapter 6 Task Reward

In Breezy Hotel, Tristan was unaware of the rumors Marlie was spreading about him.

With the excuse of changing her shoes and stockings, Lillian stayed alone in the staff lounge.

Tristan, on the other hand, was enjoying a sumptuous meal in an exclusive private room.

Just then, the synthesized voice of the system chimed in his mind.

Ding! Dear temporary host, congratulations on finishing the beginner's task. Now handing out rewards... One million in cashback has been issued!

After a pause, the system chimed again. "Ding! Some serious health issues with the temporary host have been found. Here's an extra reward for an initial health restoration..."

Tristan froze, shocked.

An initial health restoration?

He hadn't even started to make sense of it when suddenly, a wave of what felt like electricity zapped through him, sending shocks all over.

The intense tingling sensation, as if coming from his bones, overwhelmed Tristan, causing him to roll his eyes repeatedly.

This strange episode lasted about five seconds and then stopped.

Phew!

Tristan breathed out heavily, his eyes snapping open.

A sparkle lit up his eyes, and he felt as if he was lighter, almost reborn.

It seemed as though he had been freed from an unseen weight he had been carrying for ages.

Breathing became a breeze, so clear and easy!

That was when it hit Tristan that the leukemia had been making him feel weak without him even realizing it.

And just like that, the system had dealt with it.

Was his leukemia really gone?

Tristan jumped to his feet, eyes wide with surprise.

The system's voice echoed once more.

"Ding! The initial health restoration has been completed. For now, the advancement of the disease has been lifted. Just a heads-up, the usual treatments for leukemia come with their own dangers, like shortening your life, reducing mobility, and leading to other long-term health problems.

Complete three tasks given by the system, and it will fully connect with you, unlocking all its features. You'll be rewarded with a cure for diseases without any side effects and improved physical abilities. One of the three required tasks is completed. Please keep spending money to achieve your goals."

At this news, Tristan found himself breathing more deeply than before.

A cure without any side effects was within his reach!

Ignoring the million-dollar cashback, he left Breezy Hotel in a hurry, heading straight to the hospital for a check-up.

Tristan was desperate to see if the system's promises held any truth.

The doctor, donned in a white coat, quickly approached Tristan.

Mr. Stanfield, this is astonishing! Your tests show a dramatic reduction in the activity of cancer cells in your blood. This is unreal! I've never witnessed this in my whole life! Have you undergone any new treatments recently? Mr. Stanfield, would you consider being part of a medical study? It could greatly benefit medical research, and I assure you, it's completely safe.

Hearing the doctor's report, Tristan was filled with joy.

It really worked!

The system's Health Restoration feature had truly worked!

His cancer cells were being kept at bay!

Did this mean that completing two more tasks could potentially rid him of his illness entirely and even boost his physical condition?

Mr. Stanfield, regarding our study... The doctor's enthusiasm was palpable as he continued to talk about the potential research opportunity.

Tristan, however, quickly declined, "No, thanks. I'd rather not."

He hadn't received any medical treatments recently.

The reduction in cancer cell activity was solely the work of the system. There was nothing in his situation that would be of interest to the doctors.

Tristan made his way out of the hospital quickly.

As he stood at the entrance, the world seemed clearer to him than ever before.

The sky appeared bluer, the air fresher and everything around him seemed to sparkle.

A promise of a new beginning.

Amazing! he couldn't resist yelling out loud.

Ding!

Just then, the familiar chime of the system sounded again.

The task at hand: spend ten million dollars, within a span of 12 hours. Please note that recharging any membership card doesn't count toward this spending goal. The reward for completing this task includes a cashback of ten million dollars and a second health restoration.

Tristan paused, baffled. "What? I need to burn through ten million in just half a day, without topping up any membership card?"

A look of dismay quickly spread across his face.

The system seemed to have caught on to the easy out provided by recharging and promptly shut that door.

But how on earth was he supposed to use up such a massive amount of money?

Ten million was a figure Tristan had never even dreamt of handling.

Yet, now he was tasked with spending that entire amount in merely 12 hours!

He scratched his head, lost in contemplation.

Then it hit him. Ah, Ellie and Kevin! Damn it! No way was he going to let them off the hook!

When Tristan recalled the way Ellie had played him and Kevin's public shaming, his face hardened, and he looked rather threatening.

Tristan was not the kind to just sit back and take it.

He believed in giving as good as he got; that was his way of doing things!

He remembered the scene at school where Ellie declared her feelings for Kevin.

Tristan said to himself with a chilling tone, "So, driving a Mercedes is what sets you apart, right? Well, we'll see about that!"

He resolved then and there to make a grand entrance at Ellie's birthday bash, behind the wheel of a car dripping with luxury.

Which luxury car he would choose, however, remained an open question.

Before, when money was tight, he never even thought about splashing out on such lavish things.

He didn't have a clue where to find luxury car dealerships in Aylbupool.

After mulling it over, he decided to reach out to Lillian.

Hey, Lillian, it's Tristan. Well... How's your foot?

Lillian's response came quickly. "It's a lot better now, thanks. The pain's gone. Really appreciate your help... with the massage."

As she finished her sentence, her voice dropped, tinged with a hint of bashfulness.

Tristan let out an uneasy laugh before swiftly changing the topic.

I'm actually calling because I need a favor. Do you know where I can buy a car in Aylbupool? Working at Breezy Hotel, you might have some idea. I'm looking for your guidance. I'm thinking about getting a car; not just any car, but a luxury one!

Lillian paused, taken aback.

A luxury car?

What sort of car would be considered high-end?

Considering someone who didn't blink at dropping a million at a hotel was asking, it had to be something truly special.
