Chapter 4

A few weeks passed, I got ready to leave work. The money that Lucas paid for Jasper's treatment was too much because I thought of giving it to different organizations that help the sick.

I decided to give up bar dancing. I have informed you of this.

"Thank you very much, ma'am, for all your help and guidance while I'm working here."

"Are you sure about leaving?" he still asked.

"Yes ma'am. I really need to focus on Jasper's treatment. He needs to be operated on. I need to go through the paperwork for those who may come to ask for help in his treatment." when I explained to him before handing over my resignation letter.

"Alright. Be careful. You're like a child to me, since you've been here for so long. You just know where and who to go to if you need help again." mamu said goodbye to me then stood up and hugged me.

When I came down from mamu's office, my co-workers met me, led by Cha who was crying.

"Are you really going to leave, vakla?"

"We will miss you V!"

"V we don't have any virgins to throw stones here when you leave"

Words that made me laugh. I hugged them one by one. You had a little party that day. It's ok because the show is over and the bar is closed.

Before leaving, Katty approached me.

"V. I'm sorry for what I did. Somehow my conscience is chasing me for selling to you. I'm not really like that, I was dazzled by the amount that man can spend for you." explaining it to me. Instead of getting angry, I hugged him.

"Don't do it to others" was my only response. I also didn't feel any anger towards Katty, because she was the way to open Lucas' window again.

I took one last look outside the entire bar before leaving. Jasper and I are going to Manila tomorrow for his surgery.

When we got out of Manila as siblings, I was still very grateful to Aling Bethy. He has relatives here who also helped us find a place to live temporarily. Soon I also went through the necessary steps so that we could ask the organizations for help for Jasper's surgery. We are also waiting for my brother's schedule from the hospital management.

I looked for a job so that somehow I could not reduce the money that Lucas gave too much. I was referred as a bilas attendant by Bethy and Luz at her acquaintance's place of work, they just live close to where we live.

"Lavender, huh?" a call from outside the house along with a knock on the door.

I immediately stood up to open the door. Which Luz and another woman with him.

"Go ahead, Luz. Sit down first." I invite them.

"Daday is Lavender, she's the one I'm telling you about." which Luz talked to the girl with him.

"Lavender, this is Daday, he is the one who will let you go to work." I just smiled in response to what Luz said.

"You're a beautiful girl, aren't you? Are you sure you want to help? I just heard that the person I do laundry for their house in Tagaytay is looking for a helper. Can you do that?" asked which Daday.

"Yes. I'm used to working, I can even be a loader." and we just laughed at my answer.

"You're not very artistic. It's a shame you're smooth and nice to help. Never mind, I already told my boss about you, this is their address and contact number, they said call first before going, go so you can talk to him when you start" Aling Daday handed me a piece of paper at the same time.

After that they both left.

ridge? I know it's far from here. What about Jasper? I just thought. I hope if I stay in they will let me bring my brother.

I contacted the number given by sister Daday first. It was good and answered after a few rings. They send me to the second for the interview.

I was nervous, at the same time excited. I'm now standing here in front of a huge house, or mansion if you can call it that, and I'm waiting for the guard to open it. I am being sent here for the interview.

"Good morning, man. I'm Lavender Rivera, I've applied to be an assistant" when I spoke to the guard when he approached the gate, he opened it for me.

"Do you have an ID, mom?" he asked me. Besides, I reached for my ID.

"Go ahead, come in" he let me in, then someone called on the radio.

"Please bring the applicant here. Tell ma'am that Lavender Rivera is here."

"Sit down first. Just wait for someone to pick you up here on your way to ma'am" the man invited me pointing to a bench before entering the guard house again.

I was amazed at the size of this mansion. So vast and so beautiful. There was a garden in front of it and there was still a kilometer to go before reaching the mansion itself. Just looking at it, it seems like it's tiring to walk. I noticed that someone was coming to where I was sitting so I stood up.

"Lavender Rivera? Come and follow me" he ordered so I followed.

It's not like I'm wrong, we were half way through the walk when I was out of breath.

Up close, the mansion is truly bigger. It's crazy from here on out. I rolled my eyes when we entered. Obviously every piece of furniture here will be loved. It's scary to happen and it might cost more than my life. I just laughed at the thought. The man just looked at me and turned his eyes back to the front.

"Ma'am Vergara, Lavender is here." he talked to a woman sitting at a large table. I approached it and bowed in respect.

"Good morning ma'am" I greeted.

"Sit down." He only responded to me.

The interview started with my experienced jobs. Of course I didn't say that I worked in a bar as a dancer. I just said that I also helped Pampangga for a long time. I told you that my brother and I are now orphans and some personal details about me.

I also found out that Ma'am Vergara is the secretary of our female boss. He was just busy so he interviewed me. I will be joining a well-known family, so I still need some kind of clearance for the requirements.

After that, he told me to go to the mansion again on Sunday morning so that he could take me to Tagaytay and meet our boss.

I thanked her before leaving.

The same day the hospital called me. He is being confined for two days so that he can be observed.

We have talked about this and my work. I know my brother is sad, but we need to separate first so that he can heal completely.

"Sister, is Tagaytay far from the hospital?" Jasper asked as we ate dinner.

"Hmmm. Yes. The flight will take a few hours. But don't worry because there will be many people there to look after you. I talked to Luz who said that in case you need something else, she will come to you first. Every day I have off I'll watch over you there all day." I replied to him.

"Sorry sister." I was surprised by his apology.

"I'm too much for you." I just burst into tears and came to him and hugged him.

"Don't even think about that. I'm your brother and you're the only one I have. You'll never be a burden to me. My sister loves you very much" I kissed her on the forehead.

"Thank you very much, sister. I was lucky and you became my sister" he just replied to me.

I took care of Jasper's needs before I checked him into the hospital. It's hard for me to leave my brother there, but it's necessary.

I talked to Luz again about her assisting Jasper if he needs a guardian whenever I'm not available. We are lucky because they are really kind. I also handed him a small amount just in case.

I just waited for Sunday and sold the house Jasper and I were renting to Luz. I got dressed early and packed my clothes to take with me, along with the money that Lucas had given me before.

It's been a month since we last met. How is he? My chest hurt again because I missed him so much. I couldn't stop my tears from falling, inside I was still hoping, hoping that it would still be him. And he still loves me.

It was early Sunday morning and I got dressed. The things I will bring are ready in our small living room. They said I have a uniform so it's mostly pajamas and underwear, and I only brought one more to leave.

Around 6 in the morning I said goodbye to Luz. I took a taxi so I wouldn't be in trouble. When I got down in front of the mansion, I immediately rang the doorbell. The guard opened the door for me.

"Good morning man" I greeted him

"Good morning too hija. Good luck taming Señorito Andrew" I was surprised at the man's answer.

Maybe that is a tiger that is our boss's son. Rawrr!

I went straight to the mansion and talked to a maid there to say that I was there. Just a few minutes later there was an old woman who I estimate is in her 50s. Ma'am Vergara is behind him.

I stood up and bowed in respect.

"Good morning!" my greetings here.

He just smiled at me in return. His physical appearance shows wealth, but his posture is simple.

"Madam. It's Lavender, the new one who will serve Señorito Andrew." Ma'am Vergara talked to our boss.

"Lavender, madam Sonia" I smiled and bowed again.

"Come on and Andrew is alone there." when madam Sonia asked us to walk. I just followed behind them until we got into his big car.

Only me, ma'am Vergara, madam Sonia and the driver were inside the car. I kept quiet until I didn't realize that I just fell asleep in the cold and comfort of my seat, brought on by the length of the flight due to quite a bit of traffic.

I felt a few taps on my arm before regaining consciousness.

"Lavender, we're here" said ma'am Vergara. I almost jumped in shock and shame. First I chineck my cheek and maybe some saliva will help. Good thing there isn't. I looked at madam Sonia's chair earlier and she was no longer there.

"Come on, they're already inside, madam." Ma'am Vergara just said, and I got ready and followed her.

That house is just a bungalow but very spacious.

When we entered, we found a lady talking to a man with her back turned. They were sitting at the long table in the dining area.

"Madam" ma'am Vergara interrupted the conversation between the two.

"Come here." When he invited us, he gestured with his hands.

"Son, she's Lavender. She's the one you'll be with here." said to his interlocutor.

"I said that I don't need anyone! I can even move my hands! I can do it myself!" A man stood in front of us. I just noticed that he was in a wheelchair. He just gave me a bad look. His face is still very gentle but you can see in his eyes that he is angry with the world.

The young man left in front of us and madam Sonia made me sit down.

"You must have noticed that my son Andrew can't walk anymore, sir." Madam Sonia began and I just nodded.

"He had an accident a few months ago. That incident was complicated for my son, so I hope you will have a lot of patience for him. Michie (ma'am Vergara) must have told you what to do. There is a laundress you every third day, someone will also clean the house every Sunday. You just serve him food, put him aside, make him drink medicine and just accompany him. There is also a therapist who comes here once a week for his treatment. He will call Only me or Michie tell you if it's her schedule for the check up. Mostly I'm here every Sunday so you can take a day off. You'll just report to me at the end of the day" was a long litany of madam Sonia that I really like listened to.

It sounds easy, my job is very easy. But in Señorito Andrew's time, it looks like I'm going to have a hard time.

When it was noon, I cooked something for Señorito to eat. I increased it because madam Sonia and madam Vergara will eat there as well. When I finished, I put it on the table and called them.

They were already sitting and I just remained standing.

"Iha, just bring your señorito Andrew something to eat in his room. Knock three times and put the food on the table outside his door. When you come back, eat here" madam Sonia ordered that I immediately followed.

When the afternoon came, they both left. Señorito Andrew and I were left alone. He was only in the room all day so I just cleaned the house. After that, I arranged my things in the room they let me use madam.

I found out that I have four more people here. The first three are said to have surrendered to the señorito's behavior. Can I last? Alas! Must!
