Chapter 4 Possession

Chelsey's fingers tightened around her phone, her palms slick with sweat. Trevor had indeed heard it.

The tension hung heavy in the air, and when Trevor's voice finally broke through, it sent a shiver down her spine before she could say a word. "You seem eager to get married."

Chelsey's heart fluttered nervously as she scrambled for an explanation. "Uh, just thinking about stuff, you know? My mom's been on my case about settling down; she said this guy has some decent prospects. I figured I should strike while the iron's hot, you know? I won't be young forever."

But as they continued driving, Chelsey realized they weren't heading towards her rental place, but rather to the lavish house Trevor had bought for her.

She leaned forward, patting the back of the driver's seat. "Hey, Killian, could you drop me off here?"

But Killian, loyal to Trevor's core, shook his head. "Sorry, Miss Howard, but it's late and you won't find a cab around here."

Chelsey's eyes flicked to the downtown area just ahead; she knew full well there were taxis aplenty.

But arguing with Killian seemed futile, especially with Trevor's presence.

Then, without warning, Trevor snapped his cigarette, the tobacco spilling onto the floor.

"Pull over," he commanded, his voice as cold as ice.

Killian obeyed without hesitation, pulling the car to the side of the road and cutting the engine.

"You, get out!" Trevor ordered, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Without a word, Killian exited the car, leaving Chelsey alone with Trevor and the suffocating tension between them.

As Chelsey reached for the door handle, Trevor's strong hand gripped her waist, pulling her back with a force she couldn't resist.

"Decent prospects, huh? How good do they have to be?" Trevor's voice was laced with anger and scorn, his gaze piercing into her.

Chelsey tried to push him away, but his grip was unyielding, his intentions clear.

Trevor wasn't about to let her slip through his fingers so easily. Their encounter at the Morris Mansion had left him wanting more, and he intended to see it through to the end.

Chelsey couldn't decipher whether he was horny or furious, but one thing was certain: she was in deep trouble!

The long luxury car had a roomy back.

Before she knew it, she found herself pushed onto the plush sofa in the back of the car, her body contorted in a humiliating position.

"Let me go!" Chelsey cried out, her cheeks burning with embarrassment and rage.

They were in a car on the street.

Chelsey felt like she was teetering on the edge of tears, her emotions threatening to spill over. Trevor, wordlessly, tore at her skirt, binding her hands forcefully, closing in on her with a menacing air.

Trevor smirked, his expression icy. "I haven't agreed to anything, yet here you are, already on the hunt for a replacement! Do you think I've kicked the bucket, Chelsey?"

Chelsey sensed his simmering anger.

Ever since she had sent him that message a week ago, a fire had been raging within him, and now it was on the verge of erupting.

But she hadn't anticipated Trevor's descent into madness.

Although the road was deserted at this late hour, residential buildings loomed nearby, with some homes still ablaze with light. It felt like someone could peek out at any moment.

Chelsey's nerves were stretched taut, her hair standing on end and her toes curling with tension.

Yet, her fear only seemed to stoke Trevor's frenzy.

Trevor's breath was scorching against her skin, his voice a low growl in her ear. "I want to hear you say the words you sent in that text last week!"

Under the heat of his gaze, Chelsey choked, struggling to form the words of the message.

"Huh?" Trevor increased the pressure. "Speak up, or there'll be consequences!"

There was a hint of a smile playing on his lips, but in the dim light, it held a chilling edge. He enunciated each word deliberately.

On the deserted roadside, beneath the thick canopy of leaves, the black Bentley swayed slightly.

Forced to repeat the text message several times by Trevor, Chelsey finally broke down. Biting her lip, she sobbed softly. "I can't remember. I didn't send that text!"

Trevor had deliberately employed this tactic to prevent her from mentioning cutting him off.

He was determined to teach her a harsh lesson.

Her hands left sweaty imprints on the car window as they slid down. Tears welled in her eyes, rendering her a pitiful yet alluring sight.

Trevor lowered his head, pressing a kiss to the mole beneath her left eye, and then chuckled darkly, releasing her hands from their bindings and trailing his fingers over her smooth back, relishing the shivers that coursed through her.

The passion at the Morris Mansion paled in comparison to the intensity of the moment. At that instant, Chelsey truly comprehended the depth of Trevor's fury.

Half-past one in the morning, enveloped in Trevor's suit jacket, Chelsey allowed her slender, exhausted legs to sway weakly in the dim light as Trevor carried her from the car.

Killian kept his gaze averted, avoiding the scene.

Chelsey leaned against Trevor, utterly spent, as he carried her into the elevator and then out again, using one hand to unlock the fingerprint scanner.

As they entered the apartment, Chelsey caught sight of three suitcases in the hallway.

The black one belonged to Trevor, packed by her before his business trip, and he had just returned.

The silver and white ones were hers.

She had left them in her rental apartment before and intended to unpack after the banquet.

Now, they were back and untouched.

She didn't need to guess; Trevor must have instructed someone to retrieve them.

A sense of helplessness washed over her, leaving her too weary even for a bitter smile.

Trevor followed her gaze, his eyes briefly flickering over the suitcases, before wordlessly carrying her into the bathroom to freshen up. Afterwards, he wrapped her in a bathrobe and settled her onto the sofa.

Chelsey braced herself for another ordeal, pushing weakly against him.

Her hands, entwined with Trevor's, were clammy with sweat.

"You skipped dinner?" Trevor observed her, looking pale and uneasy.

Chelsey had already emptied her stomach at the Morris Mansion, endured questioning from Kaden, and then left the mansion abruptly, only to find herself in Trevor's car.

She was too drained to respond. Low blood sugar, coupled with Trevor's torment, left her feeling on the verge of collapse.

Perhaps upset with her, Trevor left her be. She lay on the armrest, trying to regain her strength.

Waves of dizziness washed over her. She spoke ill of Trevor silently, branding him as inhuman, domineering, and merciless.

In a haze, she heard footsteps approaching. Trevor appeared, holding something in his hand, lifting her and supporting her against him. With gentle insistence, he fed her something.

It was only when the sweetness touched her tongue that she realized what it was.

Being prone to low blood sugar, she kept candies on hand at the office and in her bag, with emergency glucose at home.

"Why didn't you tell me that you were unwell?" Trevor placed the glucose down, tilting her chin to meet his gaze.

Tears welled in Chelsey's eyes as she blinked wearily, her voice barely above a whisper. "Did you even give me... A chance to speak?"

Trevor scrutinized her face, his grip tightening slightly. Slowly, the color returned to her cheeks, and she found the strength to retort.

He scoffed. "Were you just cursing me under your breath for being heartless?"

Chelsey blinked in surprise.

Trevor snorted, and then put her back onto the sofa. "Ungrateful, that's what you are!"

It took Chelsey a moment to collect herself. By the time she sat up, Trevor had vanished.

Huddled on the sofa, she felt a profound emptiness wash over her.

In two years, she had come to realize that she held no place in Trevor's heart. There was no love, only possession.

As the scion of the esteemed Morris family, Trevor was a force to be reckoned with.

He had made her give up the idea of severing ties with him not out of deep love, but out of pride. Their relationship would only end when he decreed it!

He was the one in control!
