Chapter 2 Fading Normalcy

I sat cross legged on my bed wheezing and silently muttering prayers.

"I'm scared" My 7 years old brother Jimmy whined.

I wiped a sweat of perspiration off my brow.

"Everything is gonna be fine" I assured

He scooted closer to me.

I picked up my phone and texted Alice.

Me- Hey, you alright?

She replied almost immediately .

Alice- yeah but I'm freaked out as hell

Me-same here

Alice- what do you think it is?

Me- Even scientists can't explain it so who am I to explain it.

Alice- Maybe Mother nature is finally taking revenge

Me- Kinda weird that the communication cables are still working despite this chaos

Alice-exactly what I thought, I'm locked up in my room now

Me-we are finally at the end of the world.

There was a pause before she replied.

Alice- it's like you're going crazy, please don't spook me any further than I already am.

Me- I want to see what's outside

Alice- Don't open the window, Nikki

I ignored her and stood up and went to my window lifting the blinds a bit to peek out.

It was utter mayhem.

The once dust like tornado had become ash coloured and there seemed to be a straight single stream of light in it's center as black clouds surrounded the stagnant tornado while lightening flashed here and there.

I picked up my phone and hurriedly texted Alice back

Me- WTF, Alice, look out the window. What's that light between the tornado?

There was a pause

Alice- God, I don't wanna do this but fine......

I waited for her reply anxiously and my phone beeped shortly after.

Alice- What the hell are you talking about? There's nothing.

I laughed maniacally thinking I was beginning to loose my sanity when my phone suddenly went off.

"What the...." I muttered trying to switch it back on but to no avail.

"Are you alright?" Jimmy asked cautiously standing up.

I pulled him to the window , my eyes wide with curiosity.

"Do you see the light?" I asked

He looked back at me weirdly

"No"

I took a deep breath, calm down Nikki. I'm not crazy but I'm seeing things WOWWW

I peered outside again and almost passed out when I saw a strange blue coloured orb of light descend from the storm.

I gripped jimmy forcefully

"Look, are you seeing this?" I asked my voice slightly an octave higher

Jimmy released himself from my grip

"NO. ALRIGHT YOU WEIRDO, THERE'S NOTHING, STOP SCARING ME. YOY CAN HAVE THE ROOM TO YOURSELF" He screamed running out of the room and banging the door behind him.

I paid no attention to him but rather at the blue orb that hovered outside my window. I shut the blinds scared but I could still faintly make out it's glow through the closed blind.

Then suddenly, the orb floated right through the window as though it were a ghost and came face to face with me. I lost my voice to scream as I took panicked steps away from it then suddenly, it shine brighter and that was the last thing I saw.

"HELP!!!!" I managed to scream before my eyelids closed and I fell unconscious.
