Chapter 4 Escaped

Leah's POV

I woke up feeling sore all over my body. Where was I? I looked around, and the smell of drugs and disinfectant hit me.

A nurse entered the room and smiled at me, "You are finally awake. I know you must be feeling pain, but don't worry; with time, you will get better."

"Where am I?" I asked hoarsely. I felt like I hadn't spoken in a long time. I felt parched, and my mouth was dry.

"You are in the hospital, your boyfriend, Mr. Ian, brought you in two days ago. It's really sad how those rogues attacked and bruised you badly," The nurse said and continued, "Hold on, let me get you water to drink."

"Please wait, what of my child?" I asked anxiously.

"Your child is fine. Your young wolf really did her best to protect your child and heal parts of your internal injuries, she is really strong."

I exhaled and was relieved to hear that my child was safe. So Ian told them I was attacked by rogues? I really needed to find a way to escape from him for the safety of my child. His anger issues were getting worse every day.

Few months ago, when I met Ian, I thought I would finally enjoy a peaceful life with him. He was so caring and loving, and he made me happy. I thought life was going to continue this way until he started displaying his dark side.

He turned out to be the owner of a brothel, where he forced me to work for him. Several times, I tried to escape, but he would always find me and beat me up. This time, he really went too far.

I patiently waited until the nurse came back and gave me water to drink. After I was satisfied, I held her and begged her that I needed to leave the hospital immediately.

"But you just woke up, and you are weak. You need to rest, eat, and recuperate," the nurse said, confused about my request to be discharged.

I insisted, "You don't understand, please, he will kill..."

"Leah, my love, you are finally awake." Ian suddenly entered the ward and gently hugged me. I had to keep quiet and looked at the nurse pleadingly, but she didn't seem to understand.

Instead, I saw her looking at Ian lustfully and trying to get his attention. Oh, how I wish she knew the kind of monster he was.

She excused us, and Ian held my hands lovingly and started apologizing for what he did.

"I am so sorry, Leah. You know I have anger issues, and you still kept provoking me. Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant with my child? I have always longed to have a family," he said, kissing my hands.

He placed his hand on my stomach and said, "I promise not to beat you again, Leah. We can start a new life together. You don't even need to strip or work at the brothel anymore. Let's just focus on our family together, okay?"

I guess they must have told him I was pregnant, and he thought the child was his. I nodded my head to show my compliance, and he smiled with satisfaction.

I needed to find a way to escape from Ian, but for now, I could use this pregnancy to my advantage.

Ian took me home the next day after I was discharged, and he became the loving and caring man he was when I first met him. I wasn't fooled by his acts and kept thinking of ways to escape from him while pretending to love him.

An opportunity presented itself when I heard that Ian got involved in a serious fight with an Alpha who was not satisfied with the service in the brothel.

The enraged Alpha, along with some of his men, thrashed the brothel, and Ian and his own men had to retaliate.

Due to the trust Ian's men had for me because they believed I was expecting his child, they left me alone in the cabin even though they were assigned to guard me and went to assist in the fight at the brothel.

Immediately I was sure they had gone, I took to my heels and ran as I had never done before. I didn't look back or stop for anything; I just kept running in the opposite direction as I sought to leave Ian's disgusting pack.

I ran throughout the day and only stopped at night to rest and sleep. The next morning, I continued to walk, praying to the moon goddess to lead me to any neighboring pack as soon as possible.

Ian's pack was not as big as my pack. I believed that if I kept up the same energy as I did yesterday, I would definitely get to another neighboring pack.

My feet were already sore, and my stomach rumbled. Because I was in a hurry, I didn't pack any food or anything before leaving the cabin. I was fortunate to see some wild berries, which I plucked and ate.

As I bent down and continued eating, I suddenly heard a voice from a distance,

"Search thoroughly and make sure you find her! She's a pregnant woman, she wouldn't have gotten that far."

Oh moon goddess! Was I the one they were searching for? I tried to move until I heard Jack's voice. He was the leader of Ian's men.

"We have to find her before Ian wakes up in the hospital. He will definitely skin us alive if we don't find that wench. Shit! I never should have let my guard down around her."

It seemed the fight was really fierce since Ian ended up in the hospital. If it had been three months ago, I would have been worried for him, but now I wish he had died.

I quietly crouched down as they were getting closer to me, and beads of sweat cascaded down from my forehead down to my neck. If I got caught, I knew I would never have a chance to escape again. Ian would definitely chain me to the cabin.

As I tried to hide myself among the tall, thick grasses where I was hiding, I suddenly heard a click.

My leg had been caught in a hunter's trap!

I opened my mouth to scream due to the immense pain that shot to my leg, but a hand suddenly reached out and covered my mouth.
