Chapter 5 TAKE IT EASY

Brenna slowly opened her eyes and blinked a few times as she tried to focus on her surroundings. The bright light affected her vision and this forced her to groan for a moment, trying to adjust to it's rays. She could hear the beeping of machines and the sounds of people talking in the background. She looked around and saw that she was in a hospital room, with Amelia sitting in a chair beside her bed.

"Amelia?" Brenna croaked, her voice hoarse from the crash, trying to get up from the bed, but her back ached a little bit.

Amelia stood up and rushed to her side. "Oh my gosh, Brenna, you're awake! Are you okay?" She asked aiding Brenna to sit up right.

"Take it easy." Amelia said, gently guiding her back down onto the bed. "You've been through a lot. The doctors said you're lucky to be alive." Amelia stated, drawing the closest chair nearby and taking a sit.

Brenna tried to focus on what Amelia was saying, but her mind was spinning. All she could think about was the crash, and how close she had come to dying. "What happened?" She asked, her voice still weak, while still grabbing her head in apparent pain.

Amelia took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. "You were driving down the road, when a car came out of nowhere and hit you." She explained, noticing her friend's apparent facial expression indicated she was reminiscing over the entire situation.

All the memories of the accident and what led to the accident suddenly began flooding her head. Brian had cheated on her with her mother and she had simply gone out to clear off her head.

"Amelia? I am truly serious about the divorce and I think I am not going back about it. Brian wouldn't change a bit, if I am to forgive him." Brenna reasoned. It was apparent the young man would continue to be infidel.

"Wow. I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. If you want to divorce Brian, I'll support you 100%. I'm here for you, no matter what." Amelia said, reaching out to take her hand and squeezing it, in a reassuring manner.

"I just can't believe he would do something like that." Brenna said, tears starting to form in her eyes. "I thought he was the one, I thought I had finally found the one man that would give me the peace I had so desired, but I was wrong after all. Brian is a huge fraud." Brenna spoke with so much hate laced in her voice.

"I know it's hard, but you're better off without him. You deserve someone who will treat you with respect and love you the way you deserve to be loved." Amelia said, her voice full of compassion. For the next few minutes, Brenna was thinking through how she was going to carry out the divorce process.

Suddenly, the door sprang open and someone dressed up in a flowing dark gown, made up of marble stone, stepped in. As the door opened, Brenna felt a chill run down her spine. She didn't want to see her mother right now, but she couldn't avoid it. Lady Lizzie walked into the room, her eyes wide with concern.

"Oh, my darling!" She rushed over to the bed and grabbed Brenna's hand. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for any of this to happen." She started to cry, the tears streaming down her face.

Brenna's anger welled up inside her. "How could you do this to me? You knew he was my husband, but you decided to have him all to yourself. That is the highest level of narcissism." Brenna yelled out, she didn't care about respecting her mother any longer. As far as she was concerned, she is pure evil.

"I know it was wrong, and I'm so sorry." Lady Lizzie said, her voice shaking. "But please, you have to understand, I was lonely. Brian was so kind to me, and he made me feel wanted again. I know it doesn't excuse my actions, but I want you to know that I love you and I'm so sorry for everything." Her mother lowered her face in apparent sadness.

Brenna just stared at her mother, trying to process everything she had just said. She still couldn't believe her mother would step in here and pretend as though she didn't know it was immoral.

"You betrayed me. You betrayed us both." Her voice was cold and hard. "I don't think I can ever forgive you for this." She shoved the attempted by her mother to hold her hands, staring at her with disgust.

Lady Lizzie's face crumpled as Brenna pushed her away. She turned and left the room, her shoulders hunched over as she sobbed. Amelia had aided her out of the room, trying to allow Brenna have some inner peace. Brenna was left alone with her thoughts, trying to make sense of everything that had just happened. She felt betrayed, confused, and alone. Her mind was made about the divorce and she wasn't going back.

A few minutes later, a nurse came into the room to check on her. "How are you feeling?" She asked, her voice soft and gentle.

"I'm not sure how I'm feeling." Brenna said, her voice hoarse. "It's all just too much to take in." The nurse stared at her with apparent pity.

"Please I need to be left alone." Brenna pleaded with the nurse, who took the hint and left the room.

Meanwhile, at Eddie's place, the loud sound of music, coupled with the noise of laughter, made by both Eddie and Brian filled the entire place.

Brian was laughing and joking with Eddie, his worries and fears pushed aside for the moment. He had been so worried about Brenna finding out about his affair, but now that she knew, he felt a strange sense of relief. He knew it was wrong, but he couldn't help himself.

Eddie was pouring another drink, his eyes glazed over with alcohol. "Man, you're lucky she didn't kick your ass. I wouldn't have blamed her if she had." He laughed, slapping Brian on the back.

Brian smiled thinking through his next line of action. It was just like he had planned it and everything was falling in place for him and he loved it.

"And now, she wants a divorce." Brian revealed to Eddie, who stared at him with apparent shock in his eyes.

"Man that's crazy! Aren't you concerned?" Eddie asked, noticing no feature that indicates worry in Brian's countenance.

"Why would I? It's simple; we don't have kids and she has the wealth more than I can ever think about. So the property is splited into two, I take my share and she take hers and we path ways." Brian revealed.

"And guess what?" Brian added with a smirk. "Once I have my property, I am going to be with her mother and that my friend means more money." He laughed an evil laugh.

Eddie's eyes widened. "You're kidding, right? You're not actually going to take half of everything she has?" He asked, clearly shocked.

Brian shrugged, a smirk on his face. "Why not? She's the one who filed for divorce, so she's the one who should be punished." He took a sip of his drink and let out a satisfied sigh. "Besides, I deserve it. I've been working hard and putting in long hours, I deserve a share of the fruits of my labor." He stated, pouring more Martel into their cup, while jamming to the slow sensual music.

Eddie shook his head, clearly not impressed with Brian's attitude. "I hope you don't regret this." Eddie stated, but Brian knew for a sure he wouldn't.
