Chapter 2 Two

Kira

Shocked was an understatement to how I felt; I was mortified beyond words, and my vision tunneled.

Dizziness hit me hard that I couldn't control myself. It made the world around me spin like a merry-go-round!

Alpha D'Angelo's gaze searched my face with newfound interest. He had this captivating scent that made my knees buckle and my blood sang Kumbaya.

The silence caused every nerve ending in my body to twitch. I swallowed hard, hoping my mouth wouldn't open of its own accord, but it refused to obey me.

"Who are you and why are you half-naked on my terrace?"

Even his voice sent shivers down my spine in all the right places. A mad giggle escaped my lips, surprising him.

"What is funny?" His gaze hardened ruthlessly, tilting his fine, arched brow.

Everything about the Alpha screamed perfection, and I had a burning desire, an aching need, to kiss him.

My stupid wolf begged me, but my brain knew that it was a death wish to nurse.

Despite the mating bond, he wasn't mine, no matter how much I wished otherwise. At close range, my eyes landed on his chiseled abs and broad shoulders under his platinum-white shirt.

My fingers ached to touch every inch of him, from the curve of his hip to the hard planes of his chest, but how dare I?

"Have you lost your tongue? What the hell are you doing here?"

I slurred, "Terrace... Stars... Pretty…birthday."

He moved so close that I could feel his breath on my skin. His hazel eyes widened in pure shock, like he had just seen a ghost.

I could see every detail of his eyeballs. The color was a blend of rich amber and deep green, with flecks of gold that seemed to dance in the light.

"Hold on. Are you an omega?"

"Omega," I repeated, feeling the bond between us. Stronger and more potent than anything I had ever experienced in my life.

My wolf called for him, but unfortunately, he didn't return the feeling.Instead, he stretched himself up, standing tall and proud, his fingers raking his dark hair.

Several emotions played on his face. At first, he was confused, then his gaze explored my body, just the same way Zion gawked at me earlier, although the Alpha's was more intense.

Then his mood evaporated sharply to raw fury, with curses falling from his mouth and a hostile glare directed at me.

My knees turned to jelly. I stumbled backward and almost fell off the edge of the terrace. My wolf whined in protest, but I ignored her and tried to keep my balance on my trembling legs.

Alpha D'Angelo took a step toward me, and then another. He approached slowly, cautiously, as if I were a wild animal. His eyes never left me and I backed away until my back hit the glass wall behind me. I gasped, trying to breathe, but the air wouldn't come.

I was terrified, thinking about what the alpha could do. It tore at my insides, making my stomach clenched tight. I had never felt this level of panic before. I also realized the danger of this bond; if the alpha was my mate, he was going to reject me.

I stumbled backward as if trying to disappear into the wall. The silence lengthened, making me very uncomfortable. His eyes were a volcano on the verge of erupting.

"Sorry... Sorry... I'll go, I swear. I'll never ever…everrr come back here," I stuttered.

"Were you invited to this party?" His steely tone had bitterness spilling over the edges.

"I... No... Please don't tell my m-m-mum," I burst into fresh tears. "She'll kill me."

"Does your mum know you planned to fuck your ugly boyfriend on my terrace? I bet she doesn't."

I shook my head and my breath caught in my throat as his warm hand rested on my shoulder. My instincts begged me to run for my life and I swerved to the edge of the terrace.

"Stop moving backward. You're going to fall," the alpha said, this time in a non-threatening gesture.

But I couldn't believe him. I couldn't trust him. Just one command to his guards and my head would be on a silver platter.

"Don't move," he warned again, his gaze running over my exposed boobs. I winced, trying to bring down what remained of my dress, but my hands were trembling.

"What are you doing? No!"

My left foot slipped and before I knew it, I was floating in the skies, followed by my head colliding against something solid.

The pain shot through my entire skull like lightning. It hurt so much that I cried out in agony. I cringed when the sound of glass shattering echoed against my ear.

“Ow, ow, ouch,” I whimpered. My ears picked up muffled screaming and before I went into utter blackness, I caught a whiff of my mating bond with D'angelo and his strong arms cradling me.

_______

Slowly opening my eyes, my vision was blurry as I took in my environment: sterile white walls, a strong smell of antiseptic, and the beep beep of the heart monitor.

Panic gripped my heart. I was in the hospital, but what was I doing here? I tried to fill in the gaps in my memory, but nothing was working.

"Kira!" my mom rushed to my bedside, gently grasping my hand with tears streaming down her face. "Darling, you're awake. I was so worried about you."

I found her reaction vaguely disturbing and hesitated, blinking. If my mom was crying, then it meant something serious had happened. But I couldn't remember anything.

My hand reached up to touch my bandaged head, and I wondered what kind of accident or incident could have caused the injury and landed me in the hospital. Then, memories began racing in.

"Holy shit," I whispered, my voice raw, as I remembered the terrace, the champagne, Alpha D'angelo, and the fall. My heart squeezed in anguish.

"You slipped past the Alpha's terrace and sustained a concussion, a cut on your head, and a dislocation. Thankfully, the injuries aren't threatening. The doctor stitched the cut on your head and has been monitoring you closely. "

She looked disappointed in me, and a heaviness settled in my chest like an old wound.

"Mom, I'm so sorry," a hot tear slid down my cheek when I saw a flash of wild grief in my mom's eyes.

"Hush, don't cry," she pleaded with me, but I could see the anger bubbling beneath the surface. "But Kira, how could you be so careless? Why did you sneak out of the camp to attend the Alpha's party? And as if that was enough, you were on his terrace with your nakedness on display? You've put us in so much trouble."

"I'm sorry, Mom," I trembled. "I...I didn't mean to cause any trouble. I didn't think it would end like this. My friends just wanted me to have fun on my birthday."

"Fun? You call this fun?" Her voice rose a few notches higher and she swallowed, controlling her temper. "Let me tell you what's fun. The omega council had an emergency meeting, and they are considering banishing us from the pack. They claim you've brought disgrace upon the omegas."

"Banishment," I cried in despair. "But... But I didn't steal or kill anyone. Why would they banish me?"

"It's the consequences of your actions," my mom said with a choked voice. "Everything is at stake now, including our space in the omega camp."

Grief consumed me and my mum apologized for upsetting me and tried to calm me down."Stop crying. You're going to have a concussion if you don't stop."

"This is all my fault," I sobbed, feeling overwhelmed with guilt. She gently helped me sit up in the hospital bed, and I winced in pain, adjusting myself.

"I'll get you some water to drink," she said and stepped out of the room.

I was settling into a more comfortable position when the door opened, and Amari and Zion rushed in.

"Oh my God, Kira. Are you okay?" Amari's eyes welled with tears and she rushed to my bedside.

I managed a smile. Zion, who was guilt-ridden, approached me cautiously.

"Kira, I'm so sorry. I was so stupid to have left you alone that night. I don't know what came over me."

"You're damn right," I snapped. "You took me to that terrace knowing I was drunk. If it wasn't for you, the alpha wouldn't have seen me."

His shoulders slumped. "I know, Kira. I messed up, but please forgive me."

"There's nothing to forgive. Get out," I said firmly.

My mom walked in holding a bottle of water and sensed the commotion. "What is going on?"

"Nothing," we said in unison, trying to hide the tension in the room.

She didn't believe me and stared at me suspiciously, placing the water down on the table and folding her arms across her chest.

"Listen, I'm too stressed to hear any more secrets. If there's any other thing you have to tell me, do that now because everyone is mad at you. The only person who can ever help you out of this mess is me."
