I fell silent again, observing the face of the baby boy in front of me. "He looks like Marilyn Monroe," I remarked.
Curiosity struck me again, and I inquired, "Why is the flower vendor taking care of this child?"
My assistant approached the baby boy, saying, "Hey, cutie. Is your name Xavier?"
"Yeah," he responded.
"How old are you?"
He held up three fingers. "Three."
"This child has the same intelligence as the Boss. He shares a lot of similarities with the Boss," my assistant commented.
Sitting beside him, he gave me an adorable baby look. "Where's your mom?"
"Mom? Shop. Lots of beautiful flowers!" he exclaimed happily.
"Tsk! What's your mom's name? Charlotte?" I asked.
With disinterest on his face, he replied, "Mom is Mom."
Suddenly, the door burst open, and all my assistants pointed their guns at the newcomer. With a sharp and angry gaze, she looked at me. She was Charlotte, seemingly ready to unleash her fury.
"Mom!" the child immediately ran into the arms of the beautiful woman.
"Xavier."
"Mom!"
Charlotte embraced the child as if he were precious, more than anything else. She cried tears of joy.
"Thank goodness. You're okay, Xavier."
Witnessing it moved me. Seeing how much the woman loved that little boy.
Now, Charlotte's sharp eyes turned to me again, as if I were the kidnapper of her child.
"What does all this mean?" she asked, her voice cold, and her eyes piercing.
I stood up, facing my assistants. I didn't want to take all the blame.
"I told you. Don't do foolish things like this! Why did you go and capture such a valuable child? Don't you know how dangerous kidnapping is?"
"But, you told us to do it, Boss."
"You made his mother worry so much that she came here."
"All of you, get out!" I ordered a group of assistants in my house.
I stood there, frightened, looking at her holding the baby boy. I tried to start a conversation.
"Charlotte, this is my fault. I was careless and let all this happen. I'm deeply sorry."
The beautiful woman in front of me remained silent with angry eyes.
"Charlotte, say something," I became frustrated.
"Whatever the reason, what you did is unforgivable! No matter who you are, not everything is permissible," she stated firmly.
I accepted all the anger from the beautiful woman in front of me, understanding her well.
"I know, I admit that I was wrong. That's why I apologize to you, Charlotte."
She turned away to take herself and the baby boy away.
"I just hope something like this won't happen again... I will leave now," she warned me harshly.
She continued, "And from now on, never come to my shop again."
I couldn't let this beautiful woman leave, even accepting a warning not to come to the shop anymore. It was impossible.
I held her arm to prevent her from leaving. "Charlotte, wait."
"Speak quickly," her command was stern.
"I confess. I see the resemblance."
She looked confused by my admission, but I had to confess openly. The baby boy in Charlotte's arms looked like me.
"At first, I didn't realize it, but now I can see that he resembles me and you a bit."
She looked surprised and quickly suppressed the shock on her face.
"This is the first time someone said that Xavier looks like me," she contradicted.
"What? But you two look so similar," I argued.
I took my seat not far from where they were. "Since Xavier stopped crying, you should sit here for a while. Come, let's talk."
The stubborn beautiful woman refused, "No. I have to go."
Although she was stubborn, it wasn't the same for the sweet baby Xavier who gave me an opportunity. His small hand pointed to the biscuits on the table.
"Chocolate..."
He tried to stop the child in her arms, but it seemed cruel. "Xavier, no."
"Chocolate, chocolate!"
Seeing Xavier's enthusiasm for the biscuits on the table made me happy. I should reward anyone who puts biscuits on the table.
"Let him have it, Charlotte. I have plenty in stock."
I could see her getting annoyed as she placed Xavier near the table for him to get his biscuits.
Watching the beautiful woman put Xavier on her lap and feed him biscuits, she looked incredibly gentle.
I tried to start a conversation nervously, "Is he your son?"
"Yes."
"Then, where's his father?"
"Xavier doesn't have a father."
"So, you're a single mom? But why don't you two live together? You care a lot for him. I heard that your name isn't even on his birth certificate," I said.
She looked quite irritated with my questions. "Are you investigating too?"
"N-no, I didn't ask anyone to do that. But, Tony investigated a lot of things on his own. Um, I apologize for that."
"I understand."
"Can't you tell me what's going on?"
"It's complicated."
"Just say it. Is this related to your family?"
"No."
"Then what?"
He sighed, "Actually, I'm being hunted."
I was surprised to hear that. "Hunted? Why? Who's been hunting you?"
He looked frustrated, "I can't say. It's private. But... I'm afraid Xavier might get hurt as a result. That's why my name isn't on Xavier's birth certificate."
He continued, "Because of my mother... If it's not on paper, I leave Xavier in her care."
I sighed in frustration, "So that's why..."
"Even though I changed my address and hid my family history, you could find out that Xavier is my son, and you could potentially kidnap him."
I immediately denied it, "I wouldn't!"
"That means... They could do the same as you. I hope you understand my point. It's already difficult for me; I can't make you my enemy too," she muttered.
Finally, I made my decision, "I'll help you!"
She looked surprised at my enthusiasm to protect her.
"What you want is for Xavier and your mother to be safe, right?"
"Yes."
I smiled cunningly, imagining what I would gain from this.
"First. Move your shop to a different place, somewhere still close to La Jolla. If you keep moving around, they'll have a harder time tracking you. I'll help you find a new place and a new name if you want that."
She listened with interest, making me eager to continue.
"Second. I'll assign some guards for Xavier and your mother. Skilled people, how about that?"
"Why are you trying to help me?"
Charlotte gave Felix a suspicious look, making the woman unable to speak properly.
"Do you have another reason for your actions, Felix? For a stranger, it's impossible to offer so much help."
Felix stared seriously at the beautiful girl who kept cornering him for a protection reason.
"I have a reason for it," Felix replied with a serious look in his eyes.
