Chapter 3 New Friend

I sighed exasperatedly, taking a glance at someone that mother said was my sister.

She was staring ahead, tapping her finger restlessly on the steering wheel as if she couldn't wait to get rid of me from the car, like I was wasting her time.

Not saying a word, I unlocked the door and stepped out of it, coughing incessantly when she sped off, leaving a wind of dust in her wake.

She would have just left me at home. That way I would know I was actually walking the long distance to school, since there wasn't much difference between the both.

I checked the time on my wrist watch; I would be late for class again. I'm sure my teacher was already tired of giving me detentions, because the last time he had mentioned a suspension.

I wish he would dish it out to me though. I wish he had the power to do so, at least for two weeks. That would be the best two weeks ever of my life.

Growing up, my siblings had been at least civil to me until my sixteenth birthday when it had been obvious to all that I was wolfless.

When a werewolf of my pack gets to sixteen, he or she doesn't really shift, not until eighteen, but rather is taken to the water trough close to our boundaries where the pack doctor does a kind of test on the person to check out the strength or capacity of the wolf.

I don't know the reason or purpose for that but it had been the way since forever, and had been another reason or rather a chief reason why I was being bullied in school.

The doctor hadn't seen anything, hadn't felt anything during the test run. My mother had said that perhaps I was a late bloomer, but the doctor had insisted that even if I was a late bloomer, I should have at least a strand of wolf gene in me, but according to the test there was nothing, no wolf strand, no gene, absolutely nothing.

They had asked my mother if she had adopted me or slept with a human, but she had sent me away from the room, before giving an answer to the question.

That had sowed the doubts within me that perhaps I wasn't my father's daughter, perhaps mother had cheated on him, even though I couldn't imagine that happening. They loved each other so much, as werewolves feel about themselves.

But after that day, the relationship between me and my siblings had gotten bad, and things had gotten worse in school.

Even though omegas were on the lower chain in the pack, there was still some sort of equality which the king had established to prevent the abuse of power and ranks.

My siblings, for example, moved with the higher ranks, perhaps because they were just too cool, and their wolves were rumoured to be strong because they were twins.

But me, I was the outcast.

Sometimes, I imagine running away, especially if the thought of the three sons of the lycan king crosses my mind.

However, if I run, where would I go? I will be a rogue, not that anyone would care about my absence though, well except mom. The three lycan sons...

"Mia, what are you doing here?" I heard a voice ask, interrupting my thoughts.

I looked up and caught sight of Chloe, a classmate of mine. She wasn't an omega but she wasn't popular either. She was just there, and was one of the few who bothered to talk about me after the doctor's announcement.

The others who had been my friends had scampered away, not wanting to associate with the scum of the pack who her mother probably had with another man; a mistake.

"Hi Chloe, good morning.'' I greeted, darting my eyes from her to her infamous bicycle.

I still don't get her affiliation with bicycles when she could just get a car. I knew her parents could afford it.

Her brother, Elijah, my crush at one time before he had almost broken my nose with a ball on one of the days I had gone to watch him, was one of the star players of the school team, and a ladies man. He even moved sometimes with the Alpha's sons. And he drove a sweet car. Chloe just didn't like cars.

"What are you doing here? This isn't the way around your home, and why aren't you in school, you are like..."

"The early bird..." She interrupted me, a small smile on her lips.

"Yeah, exactly. The early bird. What changed? Didn't know you as someone that would break the school rules." I mentioned, sliding my left hand into the left front pocket of my oversize pants.

"Well, my mother sent me on an errand. She already called our teacher earlier this morning to take an excuse card. So, I am not really breaking any rules. What about you? Why are you always late when you could hitch a ride with either your brother or sister?" Chloe inquired, and I shrugged. "Nothing."

"I see..." She muttered. "Get on the bike. Let's go then." she said, pointing at the back seat of her electronic bike.

"But..." I muttered, trying to point out that her brother might not be happy with seeing us together, that the school might even be in chaos because of this anomaly, but she was having none of it.

"Get in Mia. Unless, you want to be the reason why the teacher gives the early girl detention. My mother already gave her the time range of the errand." She said, and I sighed, getting on the bike, not wanting to get her in trouble, happy on the inside though that I wasn't going to walk to school. I really was feeling tired.

Perhaps, a fever was actually coming. I thought, wrapping my arms around Chloe's waist.

Why wouldn't it though? I wondered, remembering again the incident that had occured yesterday.

Mason, one of the sons of the Alpha, had me stay in the school pool for more than three hours despite the cold weather, just because I had forgotten to prostrate before him when he had sent for me.
