Chapter 4 You Weren't Shy When Flirting With Me

Miranda could feel his fingers gently grazing the delicate spots on her neck, sending involuntary shivers down her spine.

His breath, warm against her neck, quickened her heartbeat.

In the stillness, her heartbeat seemed to echo loudly.

After he unfastened her necklace, she murmured a soft thanks.

Leland gazed down at her, his breath lightly stirring her hair.

"We just met last night, and now you're acting like we're strangers?" Leland teased.

Miranda was at a loss for words.

Leland was a well-known figure. Yet, he showed no sign of acknowledging their previous acquaintance. How could she dare to boldly converse with him? She had assumed their paths would never cross again, but fate had other plans.

To her astonishment, he was the uncle of her romantic rival.

What the hell was this fate?!

"Your clothes look great on you."

Leland's remark brought back memories of the previous night, causing Miranda's cheeks to redden.

The CEO of the Golden Group was rumored to be aloof and uninterested in pleasures.

But his actions the previous night told a different story.

Miranda still felt a lingering ache in her waist and weakness in her legs.

Leland examined the jade pendant of the necklace he had just removed. "Do you know how to ride a horse?" Leland asked.

"No, I don't."

"Let me teach you."

Miranda was taken aback.

**

Upon Miranda's arrival at the racecourse, the stable boy had already readied a brown horse.

The towering and robust horse accentuated her petite stature. As she mounted the horse, it shifted back and forth, its tail whisking away the dust. She felt concerned about being thrown off and made every effort to stay composed, her feet securely in the stirrups and her hands uncertain where to rest.

As Leland took hold of the reins and mounted the horse, those around them wore expressions filled with curiosity.

Edwin's anger was evident, with veins popping out on his forehead.

Miranda's actions seemed like a public betrayal to him!

Catching sight of Edwin's furious expression, Miranda compressed her mouth.

She paid all her attention to Edwin and didn't notice Leland mounting the horse.

She didn't fully realize what was happening until she felt his warm body pressed against hers.

Leland smoothly took the reins, enveloping her in his arms.

"You're admiring another man in my presence?" Leland murmured into her ear, his breath soft and teasing.

Miranda's cheeks turned a deep shade of red.

Leland lightly urged the horse with a tap of his whip. As the horse accelerated, they drew nearer and nearer to each other.

"Just relax." Leland soothed.

His lips grazed her ear, his voice seductive, intensifying the blush on her face.

As she attempted to ease herself, the horse suddenly jolted and bolted at full speed.

She couldn't help but scream.

Having never ridden a horse, she found the stirrups uncomfortable, her heart racing. Dizzy and disoriented, she clung tighter to the man behind her.

As the wind howled around her, Miranda had a sinking feeling that she might not make it.

"Stop, stop, please!"

Miranda cried out, her voice quivering with fear.

They were far from the crowd when Leland finally stopped the horse and dismounted.

After a moment to regain her composure, Miranda dismounted the horse. The ordeal from the previous night had left her with weak legs and sore muscles, making her unsteady on her feet as she trembled with frailty.

"You weren't so shy when flirting with me last night."

"No, that's not true."

"You're engaged to Edwin Murphy. Knowing about me and Maggie, you deliberately approached me, didn't you?"

Leland fixed his gaze on her, his eyes carrying a hint of curiosity.

Miranda felt a cold chill.

"Did you remember to take pills?"
