Chapter 2 It's Over

Amy was shocked, she couldn't believe her eyes. Her boyfriend was fucking another woman

Brent looked up, freezing immediately as he saw her, his face showing a mixture of surprise and guilt, as if he had been caught doing something he was ashamed of. The other woman, noticing that something was wrong, followed Brent's line of sight until she saw Amy standing in the doorway, eyes wide and glossy as the tears threatened to pour from her eyes. Amy recognized the lady as Brent's cousin Evie. But figured out immediately that it was a blatant lie

Evie appeared equally startled, but quickly scrambled to grab her clothes, attempting to cover herself up with the sheets as much as she could. Despite the shock and betrayal coursing through her, Amy remained frozen in place, wishing this was just a dream or one of those prank shows with a hidden camera. When nobody jumped out with a camera, yelling, "Got you!" Amy felt her world come crashing down. Silence enveloped the room as her hand trembled, releasing the door handle. The weight of betrayal hung heavy, and she fought to find words that mirrored the storm of emotions within. Struggling for composure, her attempts at speech dissolved into gasps, revealing the depth of her hurt and anger. After what felt like eternity, she finally managed to croak out, "Was she worth it?"

Brent didn't answer her, instead he avoided eye contact, looking everywhere but at her. Amy scoffed at his actions, quickly feeling her agony turn into rage. He'd just been caught red-handed cheating on her and he couldn't even say anything. He just stared blankly at the floor.

Amy looked from Brent over to Evie who shifted uncomfortably due to the tension, apparent in the room. Suddenly feeling her self control slip from her, Amy lunged at her screaming, " You bitch! I trusted you! His cousin?! Which one of you came up with that, huh?!"

Amy had managed to grab a fistful of Evie's hair, twisting and pulling, before Brent came rushing over to stop her. Amy scoffed as she watched Brent try to protect Evie from her. He was supposed to be her boyfriend, but instead, here he was protecting another woman from her.

Her emotions once again threatened to overwhelm her as the tears formed a steady stream down her face. Amy looked once again at the scene before her. Her own boyfriend was crouched down, comforting another woman who wasn't her. Brent looked up with a fierce look in his eyes before he finally spoke. "I think you should leave. "

Amy's heart shattered as she heard what she felt was possibly the most hurtful sentence ever spoken to her. Turning on her heel, she fled the house, an urgent need to escape driving her.

The distance she covered blurred as she ran, the only goal to put as much space as possible between herself and the painful words. She stood in the road, realizing the gravity of the situation. Overwhelmed, she broke down in uncontrollable sobs, feeling the pain in her heart from the betrayal..

Pulling her phone out of her purse, which she'd thankfully remembered to bring, she dialed the only person she felt she could trust right now.

After a few rings, April picked up with her usual cheery voice.

"Hey doll, what's up?" April asked with a cheerful tone.

"A- April?" Amy managed to wheeze in between sobs.

"Amy? What's going on?" April asked, her voice taking on a worried tone as she heard Amy's tone

"I- I n- need you p- please?" Amy continued, her cries slowing down as she talked to her best friend

"Of course, I'm coming over right now," April said and Amy could hear some rustling as April hurried to get changed.

"I- I'm not home, " Amy sniffled as she finally looked around her, realizing that she'd run all the way to the park.

"Where are you ?"

"At the park," Amy said, the last word coming out as a cry. She and Brent had made many fond memories at this park. They came here on weekends to have picnics, but now those joyful memories became unbearably painful to recall.

April grew increasingly worried as Amy sobbed harder at the other end of the line, wondering what could possibly have gone wrong.

"Amy? Amy" April called out to her through the phone as she hurried over

"Yeah?" Amy sniffled as she began to hiccup from the endless crying.

"Deep breaths, okay? Can you do that for me?" When she didn't hear a response, she assumed that Amy had nodded and proceeded to give her instructions to help steady her breathing as she rushed over to the park

Seated on a nearby bench, Amy gazed at her phone, tears streaming down her face. She scrolled through pictures of her and Brent, searching for subtle hints of dissatisfaction, yet every snapshot portrayed a facade of happiness.

Wiping away tears, she sniffled, experiencing the intense ache of betrayal piercing her heart. How could he betray her like this? Over a year together, discussions of a shared future, and now, in an instant, he seemed to cast it all aside. The dreams they had nurtured, of starting a family, getting married, and building a life together, crumbled under the weight of this unexpected and devastating betrayal.

Fuck him, Amy thought. Fuck him for being a lying, cheating scumbag. Fuck him for making her feel like garbage. And fuck him for thinking he could just play around with her feelings however he wanted.

Having searched for what felt like hours, April finally spotted Amy on a bench, her demeanor radiating misery as she stared at something on her phone. Without hesitation, April moved towards Amy, enfolding her in a comforting embrace, offering solace in the midst of evident distress."Hey, doll," she murmured as she sat down next to her. "What's going on?"

Amy snuggled into her "I don't understand," she sobbed."I thought he loved me."

April's face twisted in confusion, then she realized as she saw the photos on Amy's phone. She immediately connected the pieces as she breathed out angrily, "Brent"

April rubbed her back in circular motions as she murmured, "He was an idiot, Amy. Shh, it's gonna be okay. He doesn't deserve your tears," April murmured in a comforting voice.

Amy sniffled and looked up at April. "What am I going to do now?" she asked. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying and her nose red from the occasional sniffles that came with crying.

April gritted her teeth in anger as she looked at what a crying mess Amy had become. Nobody deserved to make her feel that way and especially not Brent, that no good, two faced, slimy motherfucker.

April was going to make sure he received a piece of her mind and more, but first, she had to be there for her bestfriend.

April called an Uber and took Amy home. Amy had calmed down by now. All that remained were the occasional sniffles and a stubborn lump that'd formed in her throat. They were both quiet on the ride home, with Amy snuggled up against April.
