Chapter 4 Women Should Behave Themselves

Over the last three years, each visit to Harold's family home for dinner had ended with his grandfather suggesting they stay the night.

Miley and Harold often played the part of a loving couple, sharing a bed more times than Miley could count, so she never objected to staying over.

Yet, learning that Harold had purchased that painting for Leyla left her feeling disgusted.

They led separate lives, keeping up appearances as a loving couple when needed. Miley was fine playing the dutiful wife for his family's sake.

But that painting belonged to her mother.

It wasn't meant for Leyla's hands.

Filled with resentment, Miley decided to do something to retaliate.

After applying her makeup, she gazed at her reflection, looking both enchanting and cold.

She then changed into a striking outfit.

Her beauty was undeniable, with refined facial features and a petite face.

She had slipped into an elegant, flowing red gown that featured a bold V-neck and an intricate cut-out pattern on the back. With her long, wavy hair and striking red lips, she was so stunning that she would captivate everyone's attention.

Miley held her purse, suppressed her irritation, and waited at the entrance of the company.

Harold was instantly mesmerized by her appearance as he stepped out of his car.

His gaze intensified, a clear sign of his growing desire.

He moved closer, gracefully removed his coat, and placed it over her shoulders.

"You look particularly cheerful."

His voice was raspy. He wrapped his large hand around her waist and briefly looked down at her cleavage.

Pretending not to notice it, Miley offered a smile and said, "I've landed an important project. Plus, it's been so long since I've seen Grandpa. So yes, I'm quite happy."

She lifted her chin, shrugged off his hand, and climbed into the car with grace.

It seemed she was unaware of the lust in Harold's eyes.

Miley was in the passenger's seat. As Harold prepared to drive, she suddenly leaned towards him as though searching for something, her plump chest pressing close to his legs.

"Have you seen my lipstick?"

Her tone was teasingly sweet, filled with charm.

Before her cool fingers could explore the car's floor, Harold gently lifted her face, holding her chin to make her look at him.

"Do you want to do it here in the car?" he asked.

His eyes narrowed, fixating on her with an intense, almost frightening desire.

Miley kept up her flirtatious act.

She tugged at his tie and murmured into his ear, "I just remembered how delightful it was in this car the last time."

As he heard her playful tone, Harold pinched her jaw tighter and gazed into her eyes with intensity.

He cradled the back of her head, drawing nearer to her.

Miley inwardly scoffed.

Then, she suddenly released her hold, adjusted her dress, and settled back into the passenger seat, all while wearing a bright smile.

"You know, I just remembered that my lipstick is actually in my bag. Please focus on driving now, okay?"

"You did that on purpose, didn't you?"

Harold, clearly annoyed by her sudden retreat, sounded both annoyed and aroused.

His voice was deep, raspy, and carried a slow, chilly tone.

Miley blinked with innocence. "What can we do? Grandpa's waiting for us. We'll be late if we don't leave soon."

"Just you wait." Harold let out a scornful laugh and started the car.

Miley felt her heart race.

It was really exciting to play with fire.

An hour passed, and they reached the Wheeler family's residence.

The Wheeler family was among the wealthiest, yet their family structure was quite simple.

Aside from Harold's younger brother, who was currently in Africa photographing lions and was unmarried, Harold's family just consisted of him, his parents, and his grandfather.

Eric Wheeler, Harold's grandfather, had taken a liking to Miley. During his severe illness, he made every effort to bring her and Harold together.

At that time, Abel was in a comatose state. Many employees had left, and the Tucker Group's stock prices had plummeted. Facing crisis, Eric suggested strengthening the two families by letting Miley and Harold get married.

The arrangement seemed mutually beneficial, yet in reality, the Wheeler Group was the Tucker Group's sole lifeline.

Thanks to Miley's decisive actions and the Wheeler family's support, she managed to stabilize the Tucker Group.

Seeing Miley, Eric was in a better mood.

"Miley, come over here. I've had the cook prepare your favorite dishes!"

"Thanks so much, Grandpa."

Miley set down the present she had brought for Eric and engaged in cheerful conversation.

Meanwhile, Harold was pulled aside by his mother, Haley Wheeler.

Miley was known for her beauty, generosity, intelligence, and determination.

Eric was completely pleased with her. He looked at Harold and let out a sigh.

Of course, he had heard about the rumors about Harold and Leyla.

Harold had been lavishing Leyla with gifts, taking her overseas for medical treatments, and leveraging his influence to arrange her art exhibit.

Eric believed that Harold had lost his mind.

Why would anyone choose the fish eyes when there were pearls available?

"Harold's romantic endeavors have rarely been fortunate. His first love was not someone good. It took a lot for him to free himself from that problematic woman. I didn't think he'd get himself confused once more. I realize this is tough for you. Enduring such things isn't easy for any wife. Yet, I'm convinced that your patience will be rewarded. One day, Harold will eventually realize your worth and return to you," Eric said to Miley.

This was Miley's first time hearing about Harold's first love.

She was relatively unfamiliar with his romantic history.

She could see that Eric harbored a deep-seated hatred and disgust for Harold's first love.

His aversion to that woman seemed even more intense than his feelings towards Leyla.

Miley was stunned for a while before she came back to her senses.

With a smile, she said, "Grandpa, I'm not upset."

Even though Harold had showered Leyla with affection, even if he had spent a fortune on her painting, and even if he had supported her art exhibition, Miley did not feel wronged.

She was always ready to retaliate.

She never let things bother her.

But Eric felt sorry for her.

Miley didn't feel aggrieved, and that was precisely what concerned him.

He was worried that this young couple would have more twists and turns.

By eight in the evening, the Wheeler family gathered for their dinner.

At the dining table, Haley's eyes narrowed at Miley's attire, clearly disapproving.

She had always opposed her son's marriage to Miley. Could a woman behave herself with such a striking face?

Yet, Eric had been adamant about Harold marrying Miley.

And now, Miley was dressed provocatively for a simple family dinner!

Haley scolded Miley sharply, "Miley, it's been three years since you joined our family. Is this an appropriate way to dress? A woman should conduct herself with dignity..."

Miley was well aware that Haley didn't like her. As she arched an eyebrow, preparing to respond, Harold suddenly interjected, "But I like it."

He added coldly, "She's my wife. Naturally, she dresses this way for me."

Haley was rendered speechless.

Then, something crossed her mind, and she frowned, saying to Miley, "It's alright if you prefer dressing that way. But you've been married to Harold for three years. Isn't it time to think about having a child? You should realize that for a woman, having a child and caring for her family is the most important thing..."

"If you like children, you can have a baby as you like," Harold replied casually. "Mom, your happiness is what matters. I wouldn't mind a few younger siblings. Don't fuss over what Miley and I do."

Haley, who was forty-five, was taken aback.

How was she supposed to have a child at her age?

Harold's comment infuriated her so much that she clenched her teeth and retorted, "I'm concerned about your future!"

"Thanks, but your worry is unnecessary." Harold smiled at her.

Once again, Haley was at a loss for words.

Eric, unable to watch silently, defended his grandson, "Let the young ones handle their own lives. Why do you want to interfere in their private affairs?"

The idea of them having a child?

He would be happy enough as long as they didn't work together to fool him!
