Chapter 5 5

Leonardo drives nervously, with every moan of pain from his wife, he wants to speed up the car and get to the hospital as quickly as possible.

But he's not the type of fast and furious driver, so he drives at a normal speed to the avenue he's on.

"Calm down, Emy, we'll be at the hospital soon."

"Oh, Leo, it feels like my back is going to break in two," says his wife, already crying."

"Why did you do this to me, Leonardo?"

For Leonardo, the pain his wife is feeling is making her go crazy." What do you mean, why did you do this to me, Leonardo?"

"We did Alba together, I didn't force anything with Emily, we made nice and delicate love, I wasn't wild with my wife at any point"

"I want this child to be taken away from me, Leonardo! I can't bear the pain."

"Calm down, Emily."

His speech is cut off by her swearing:

"Don't ask me to calm down, Leonardo, this is your fault."

Emily's words could hurt Leonardo's heart and he knows that she says things because of the pain she is feeling, after all, she is their first daughter. To avoid getting hurt, he prefers to follow the route to the hospital in silence and when he gets there, he parks, turns off the engine, gets out and locks his door.

He runs to the passenger side, opens the door and takes his wife in his arms. He rushes into the hospital, at which point Emily begins to bleed and is helped by the hospital's emergency team.

Stunned, he sits at the reception. The receptionist walks up to him and asks, "Is everything okay?

"Yes, yes, I'm just a little dazed."

"First-time fathers are like that, but you were brave, to fathers who faint here at the reception, follow me, let's do your wife's file, then I'll accompany you to the pre-delivery room so you can stay with her."

This was done, and as soon as his wife was admitted, the very helpful receptionist took Leonardo to the pre-delivery room, where his wife performed a cardiotocography exam, to check whether the tube was in good condition with the baby's heart.

She still lets the tears escape due to the pain, but she is calm.

"Leonardo, soon they're going to break my water, and I'm scared."

"Love, I thought your water had already broken, because you were bleeding."

"What she had was a placenta displacement, but everything is fine with the baby. "I am pleased to be "Dr" Roberta Cavalcanti and I am the one who will deliver your wife."

Dr. Roberta checks the results of our little daughter's heart exam, everything is fine. Free from the examination belt, the doctor checks Emy's dilation, which is already nine dilated.

"The nurse is going to break her water, now I'm going to get ready to wait for you in the delivery room, and her husband must accompany me to put on the appropriate clothing to accompany the birth.

As they leave the pre-delivery room, the nurse breaks Emily's water, and she now feels the contractions with more force and screams in pain as if these were the last moments of her life. "

" I will die!"

"Calm down, mommy isn't going to die, I've already been through that and survived."

"I'm going to check your dilation."

"Wait, another contraction is coming, help me!"

The nurse carefully checks Emily's dilation.

" Let's go to the delivery room. Now that she's dilated to ten, the nurse takes the bed to the delivery room, where Dr. Roberta and Leonardo are waiting for her.

With Roberta's help, Emy lies down on the bed to give birth."

The contractions are rhythmic and more painful.

"Emily, stay calm and very still, I'm going to apply the anesthesia."

Epidural anesthesia is applied to Emily's back and she feels no pain, just contractions.

"Now let's bring your little girl into the world. When you feel the contraction, you push."

One, two, three, four-on the fifth strength, Alba's cry is heard.

Leonardo, who closely followed his daughter's birth, kisses his wife's lips and cries with her.

The procedures are carried out, and the baby's health is certified by the pediatrician.

It's time for Leonardo and Emily to meet their little daughter, Alba.

And the pediatrician delivers it wrapped in the hospital's small sheet.

"Look who came to meet mom and dad."

Emily takes her daughter in her arms and kisses her on the forehead.

"Leonardo, she's beautiful, and she looks like you, love."

"Aren't you mad she looks like me, Emily?"

"No, why should I be angry about that"

"On the car ride here, it seemed like you wanted to kill me, accusing me, saying that it was my fault for your suffering."

Emily smiled at her husband:

"Forgive me, Leo, but you have no idea of the pain I'm feeling, it's an unusual pain."

"You're forgiven, love, after all, look at the gift you gave us."

The obstetrician feels sorry for taking the baby away from her parents, but she has to be taken to the nursery, so she can take the mother to the recovery room, even Leonardo wouldn't be able to stay there.

Emily hands Alba to the obstetrician and is personally taken by Dr. Roberta to the recovery room.

"You won't stay here for long, just until you finish the serum you're taking and your legs come back from the anesthesia, in a maximum of two hours, you'll be in the room, with your little girl."

"Thank you, Doctor."

"Rest, my dear, now I have to prepare to bring more beautiful babies into the world."

As soon as the Doctor leaves the room, Emily feels her eyes get heavy and falls asleep.

Leonardo takes the opportunity to return home, since he won't be able to stay in recovery with Emily, he will check on the family cat. When he arrives, he sees Xano sleeping on the sofa in the living room.

He sits next to him and, stroking his fur, calls him to tell him the news:

"Xano, hey, little friend.

The kitten opens its eyes and looks at Leonardo curiously."

"Alba was born, little friend, and Emily will be in the hospital for the next few hours."

Xano climbs onto Leonardo's legs and lies down on them.

"Humans shouldn't have woken me up"

"But I would be frustrated if you didn't wake me up to tell me the news that Alba was born. I will be your protector."

The cat thinks, looking around the room, already imagining himself playing with the little being.
