Chapter 4 4

Freya was rejected.

She felt heartbroken and used.

She couldn't believe that it was her best friend he chose as his Luna. She didn't want to think he knew they were friends.

In her entire existence, she hasn't been ridiculed this way.

Reyna was a year older than her, so how could he say she wasn't good-looking?

It all made sense. Her shy and reserved nature did the worst to her. It made her not keep her looks in check. She was always indoors; how would she know a man's likes and dislikes about a woman?

She regretted coming to the mating ceremony. It was all a thrash idea.

With her heart in shreds, she began to walk out. The pain was evident in her eyes. She staggered. Everything happened quickly, and she didn't even expect it.

"Stop right there!" a voice commanded.

She stopped and turned.

It was Alan. He had a cunning look on his face.

"Do you think you have the right to walk out on your will just because you were rejected?" he inquired in a hoarse voice.

Tears flowed freely on Freya's face as she watched him speak. She was too heartbroken to utter any word. She wished right there that a blizzard wind would blow her away from the surface of the earth so she doesn't have to face someone ruthless as him.

"Those tears of yours can't move me."

"You see, I made the right choice, and you dare not leave until I tell you so!" he barked.

"Simon!" he called and turned to face his Beta.

Simon stood, looking at him all through. From when Alan announced Reyna as his Luna till the moment he called him. He had never heard of such an occurrence, so it came as a shock to him.

Simon hurriedly walked to where Alan stood. He bowed slightly.

"Take her from here and do away with her," he instructed.

He continued, "And, I never want to set my eyes on her. If you want to serve me, you should do as I say," he commanded.

Simon bowed. He had to do as he was instructed. As the Beta to the Alpha, he only follows the orders he gave.

He moved towards Freya with a straight face and grabbed her arms. He walked ahead while he dragged her behind him.

Freya turned to look at her best friend, Reyna, who watched, unable to utter a word.

Such an outrageous thing has never happened to her. She couldn't cry anymore, but her heart felt heavy.

She stared at Alan. He wore a callous look and was pleased with her dismissal.

He hung his arm around Reyna's shoulders. That was the last sight she saw. Her view was covered by trees and leaves.

Simon let go of Freya's hands immediately after they entered the woods. He was sure she wouldn't try to escape or do anything.

Freya fell to her knees like a man without limbs. She was still in shock about what happened.

Streams of tears flowed down her face, uncontrollably. It was as though the birds and crickets in the woods wanted her to pour her heart out, because the air became calm. She cried like a baby. Her voice resonated in the woods.

Simon stood helplessly. He could see how pained she was. He didn't know what to do to console her.

He walked over to where she knelt and tapped her shoulder. He was trying to console her.

"Get your hands off me!" Freya yelled. She pushed his hand.

"Why don't you kill me as you were ordered! Go ahead!" she screamed. At that moment she looked like someone who was going to go crazy.

Simon knew he had to calm her down, and clear himself before her.

So, he spoke, "Do you think I really want to kill you?" he asked, looking into Freya's eyes.

Freya stared back with red eyes.

"I really have no connotation of killing you. I only act according to orders," he explained.

"Yes! You only act according to orders, that's why you should kill me as you have been instructed," Freya flared.

"For you, this is going to be different. I would do no such thing," he assured.

Freya sat on her legs. It would do no good if she keeps arguing. It is best she just accepts whatever he says.

She was already exhausted and had no strength left to continue the exchanging of words.

Simon sat on a wood close to her.

There was a long moment of silence before Simon decided to speak.

"I'm sorry about what happened," he apologized.

Freya looked away.

"What are you sorry for? It is not as if an apology can undo what has been done," she replied. She fiddled with her nails.

Her face was pale from sadness.

Simon sighed.

If Alan should hear that he spared Freya, his life would be at risk.

He couldn't bring himself to shed the blood of an innocent girl. She only wanted a mate and the moon goddess gave her one who he did not only ridicule but repudiated her.

It would not do him any good that after sparing her life, he comes to be the Alpha's enemy and also loses her. He thought to himself.

"You have to stay in hiding," Simon voiced.

Freya looked up at him.

"What do you mean?" she asked in a weak voice.

"I mean, I will not kill you as I was ordered. But then, you have to stay in hiding until we come up with an alternative," he explained.

Freya lowered her head.

"You have no choice for now. Alan wouldn't back off so easily. He might still search to really see if I killed you." Simon said softly.

"He is that type of person," he added.

"I understand. It is okay," she nodded. She was too devastated to talk.

"I have to leave now," Simon announced.

"I need to leave fast so Alan doesn't suspect anything," he elucidated.

Freya stood up.

"I have a request, please," she said.

Simon nodded, urging her to go on.

"Can you help me talk to my friend Reyna to talk to the Alpha about me returning to the pack?" she asked.

Simon looked around, not sure of what to reply to her with. This was going to make things complicated if Alan knew she was alive.

"I would appreciate it," she implored.

"Okay. I will see to it," Simon responded.

After gazing at her for some minutes, he tapped her shoulder and walked away.

He just had to acquiesce to her request so she wouldn't browbeat him.

He arrived at the entrance of the pack. After some thinking, he walked in with firm resolve.

He headed towards the Alpha's quarters. It was very early in the morning, the day was still dim.

"You told me it was going to be smooth, why is my heart not at rest?" a female voice spoke.

Simon paused as he was about to turn the door knob.

He listened closely.

"I already sent someone to take care of it," Alan clarified.

"Someone you say? Simon? How sure are you that he is going to execute it?" Reyna asked angrily.

Alan held her waist.

"Do you think I'm stupid? Huh? I always have a backup," Alan pecked her.

"About your friend, you have nothing to worry about. If Simon doesn't finish her off, I already sent someone to," he smiled guilefully.

"It is better off that way. She would at least know her place," Reyna laughed.

Alan sniffed her neck. He moved his hands up and down her waist line.

"At least, I will not have to wrestle with anyone," she giggled.

"Hmmm," he answered and took her lips in his.

Simon wobbled. He couldn't believe what he just heard. Reyna was behind her friend's quagmire?

He remembered that he heard Alan say something about sending someone to spy on him. He quickly retracted his footsteps and ran as fast as he could to where he left Freya.
