Chapter 6 Found

Jake Hunt did not see the need of remaining in the church hall. His bride had abandoned him there to face the scandal alone. He was supposed to go after her and explain things but there was nothing to explain because he was as surprised at the turn of events as she was.

He got to his mansion and having heard of the events that took place in the church, news and rumours travel really fast, his cook and housekeeper got out sumptious meal to try to tempt him but he brushed it aside and went into his room.

His parents - his father and step mother came in sometime later and when told that Jake was in his room, they went into theirs asking Vera the cook to call them when she was through setting the table. They did not want to disturb Jake, knowing he needed to be alone.They also knew that this was the time a brother, should come in handy to comfort his twin but James had chosen to stay away and his parents had not said anything because nothing they said would have changed his mind.

Else, he might stay and make matters worse by openly mocking Jake. So, it was probably good he had not come home with them.

James on the other hand, had gone to somewhere else to spend the night. He wanted to celebrate the humiliation of his brother. And he couldn't do that in front of the family but his heart was filled to bursting point with joy. He called in a few of his friends who had like minds and they popped champagne and had a wild time.

Jake sat on his bed thinking. He felt that the people he had sent to go in search of this mysterious lady were not putting in enough effort. They should have found her by now! he thought to himself. He wanted to go out there and do the searching himself. He was becoming impatient. Why had he not heard any news from his men yet?

He called Ambrose, the head body guard. 'Do you have any news for me?' he asked.

'I am sorry to say sir, that we have found nothing yet about this woman'.

'How is that so? You have been out combing the city for about two hours now and you don't have a better news to give me', he bellowed. 'Has she disappeared into thin air then?'

'We are trying as hard as we can. We shall call when we have a better news to give you', he said, waiting for further instructions but then Jake cut the call without saying anything.

Jake knew they might find the woman eventually but he wanted it to be now so that he could give her a taste of her own medicine.

He went into his study to bury himself in work but found that he could not concentrate. If only he had got a good glimpse of her but she had had her face covered. She had really planed this to the tinniest detail. The whole thing was all so confusing and mysterious. But he liked mysteries and he was determined to solve this particular mystery.

He went downstairs since he could not divert himself with work, lacking the concentration needed for it

He found his parents there. He had been so thoughtful that he had not realised that he had left his parents in the church and returned home.

'How are you doing son?', his step mother asked, her voice filled with concern.

'Oh, Hilda', Jake said exasperated. 'Stop treating me as though I am a kid. I am okay. I can handle it. A wedding was called off does not mean the world has ended or has to end'.

'Of course not!' she said hurt that he had spoken to her in that tone when she was only empathizing with him. 'I was going to tell you that same thing. So that you should not worry overmuch over what has happened. Maybe it was for the best, though it might not seem that way now'.

Jake nodded, regretting his outburst.

'I'm sorry Hilda, it is just that...'

'I understand and you do not need to be sorry. Just try and get a hold on yourself'.

'Thanks for the care', he said before the door was opened for his best man who had also instructed his men to join in the search.

'Carl', Jake breathed. 'How can a whiff of a woman disappear into thin air like that? She must have had help escaping that fast and remaining hidden. I wonder which of my detractors sent her'.

' That's why I came, I have been able to make headway', Carl Peterson said.

'Really?' said three voices.

'How so?'

One of my men took down her plate number', Carl said smiling. 'And I was able to pull strings to find out who the car belongs to. Or at least who bought or hired the car, I felt that should lead us to her'.

'And did it?' Jake asked anxiously.

'I found who the mystery woman is', he said.

Three pairs of grateful eyes were trained on him. All had the same thought, she would have to explain the meaning of the drama she put up in the church today or bear the consequences of messing with a Hunt.

'Who is she?' Jake asked in a deadly tone of voice, unconsciously adopting in a menacing stance.

'She is Catherine Wells, the popular model!' he said smugly. 'I did a little background check on her and what I found was really amazing. You might want to check up on a few things concerning her before confronting her'.

'Give me everything you have on her and I shall get more findings because not only does the name not sound familiar, I do not think I have had anything remotely, to do with her!

After about an hour of calls and investigations, Jake was shocked at what he found out about Catherine Wells.
