Chapter 4 The Top Boss Is Back

My hope finally paid off. The wind came in the form of a sudden knock on his office door which shattered the tension between us causing Xavier to quickly pull away.

Mr James push-opened the door and sauntered into the office.

"Good. Now, let's get down to business. Show me the documents." Xavier said to me. His acting was worthy of an Oscar.

As I handed over the documents, I couldn't shake off the feeling of what just transpired. It held more significance than I could comprehend.

"Good morning, Mr. Lexington."

"Morning, please have a seat." He said as he looked carefully at the documents.

"Thank you for bringing in the documents in time, Livia." Mr. James appreciated me who was just standing there silently with my chest pounding.

I smiled warmly and nodded in response.

"Miss Dumont is one of the most dedicated and professional staff we have here. You will be impressed."

"Highly impressed." He said with sarcasm, his gaze still fixed on the documents.

"It's almost time for our next project meeting, Sir."

He looked at his wrist watch, "You're dismissed, Miss Dumont."

"Okay, Sir. Thank you." I exited the office.

Immediately I got outside the office, I let out a sigh of relief, "you gotta admit girl, that was quite tense and awkward. But you were brave, I must commend you."

I began walking back to my office, lost in thought.

Back, at the office, I couldn't dust off what just occurred between me and the Top Boss.

Such a mysterious young man! How could he use my own words against me? I did nothing wrong but why did I feel like I was being punished for doing something good. I blew out the air.

As the day progressed, I managed to let go of my distractions and place my focus entirely on my work.

"Everyone gather!" Adrain shouted.

"What's it this time, Adrain? I hope you're not wasting our precious time. I have a presentation to submit to Mr James by the end of today, and we all know that once you start, you can't stop." Susan said.

"Unbelievable! When have I ever done that?" Adrain feigned anger.

"Never, Adrian." I praised him.

"Thank you, Livia. One of the many things I like about you." He winked at me.

"Okay okay, back to the matter at hand. I know I'm going to regret asking this, but what great news have you brought with you?" Susan shifted his focus back.

"The Top Boss is back!"

Everyone shouted with surprise except me.

"That's not even the main juice."

"There's more?" Riley asked expectantly.

Susan was now impatient, "come on, you're keeping everyone waiting."

At this point the anticipation was killing everyone.

"He's coming in less than a minute to our office!"

Everyone gasped, "why?"

"I don't know. He's never been here before."

"Yeah, we all know he's never been down here, genius, we also work down here. You cared to get the gist but didn't care to know the reason behind it? Tsk!"

"So ungrateful, there will be no next time for you." Turning to everyone, "make sure to keep everything professional, you know what the Top Boss is all about."

"What are you now, our boss?" Susan hissed at him.

"Well, technically, I'm your superior cause I've been here longer."

"One day doesn't count. You started one day before me!"

"Doesn't matter."

"Maybe he's here to acknowledge all our hard work." Riley added, trying to pull the two bulls away from each other.

"Dream on, when has that ever happened?" Adrain reminded her of the reality of things with their Top Boss.

"Whatever it is, I feel like it's a dream come true, to be able to be in the same space as the hottest man in the world and breathe the same air as he is. Today is my lucky day, perhaps, all my mother's prayers are finally working. Maybe he'll fall in love with me at first sight and propose in an instant then we'll get married and run off into the sunset and live happily ever after" Riley professed.

Her delusion was clearly out of this universe.

"Shhh girl! Enough of your nonsense, when have you ever seen him close to a girl, besides you're not his type." Adrain scolded her.

"You're just jealous."

"Or maybe he's gay." Susan concluded.

"Will my beauty be enough to transform him into a straight man?" Riley displayed an act of charm.

Amidst all this, I was just silently smiling while watching my coworkers debate.

Susan raised her head and sighted Xavier heading to their office, "He's here, everyone!"

In split seconds, everyone returned back to their desks and became intensely serious with their work. The place was overwhelmed with quietness and a bunch of professional and serious workers deeply focused.

Xavier Lexington walked into our office for the first time, and like a deity of time and space, he moved with a certain control over it, his every step seemingly slow and the breeze in his path making way for him. His imposing presence commanded attention that wrapped the office with silence like a snake around our necks squeezing out life from us. With each deliberate step, he approached my desk, his movements emitting a severe sense of authority, power and command, making everyone hold their breath in anticipation.

My face was already saturated in fear and the existing smile on my face disappeared.

"Is this office handling project 101?"

"Yes, sir!" Everyone chorused.

"This is a very important project for the company so consider it an honor to be a part of it."

"My team is the best. I'm sure they'll handle the project well." Mr James who was standing right beside him added.

"Livia!" Xavier called out.

I almost choked on the surprise of hearing my name. The co-workers were more shocked by how informally he addressed her.

"Yes, sir." I stammered in response.

"Report everything directly to me and if anything goes wrong with the project at hand, you'll suffer it."
