Chapter 5 He Believed Me

That's not me!!" She subconsciously blurted out.

"I know it's not you,I know the goal of the sender was to make me agitated and unfortunately,I fell into it," her mother,Kelly said calmly.

She closed her eyes as she sighed out before saying, "you may leave,I want to be alone."

"Mom," she whispered and Miles shook his head at her.

"It's best we let her be for now, let's go I will take you home," he said as he pulled the dazed Layla out. Miles turned to look at the woman on the hospital bed with a deep look.

She was definitely hiding something. He could feel it and he would find out what it was. His instincts were always right so they wouldn't be wrong in this.

"You have helped me so much," Layla muttered tiredly as she sat on the bench in the hospital's corridor. She decided to wait for a while before she would head home.

"It's my duty, after all, I'm your future husband, aren't I?" He asked with a smirk dancing on his lips and she chuckled.

He secretly heaved a sigh of relief as he saw her smile. It was worth it to be shameless if that would bring a smile to her face. He didn't know why,but seeing her smile brought joy to him.

"Let's head home, you can't sleep in the hospital," he spoke after a few moments of silence and she nodded weakly. At this point, she couldn't argue at all.

"Alright,I had sent Kingsley home so I would be the one to drive," he said as they got to the car. He could see her glancing around as though she was searching for someone.

He concluded that she was looking for Kingsley,so he told her that you put her mind at rest.

"Alright," she said as she opened the door and sat on the copilot seat. She didn't wait for him to open the door and Miles chuckled lowly before he entered the car also.

"What was in the folder that made you scream out loud?" Miles asked as he drove the car slowly. He wanted to have a conversation with her.

"It's nothing serious," she said and he could tell she was lying. That was because a frown settled on her face as soon as he made mention of the folder.

"Are you sure you don't want to tell me?" He asked once again. He knew that it was something bad as her mother had made mention of it but her reaction proved that it was more than that.

"Here, if you badly want to know what was in the folder," she threw it to his laps already irritated by his incessant questioning.

Miles bit his lips as he could sense she was already getting angry. He looked at the folder on his laps and sighed. For some reason,he didn't want to look at it anymore.

"I'll," he was about to say something but noticed they had stopped at a traffic signal. He decided to use the time to look through the folder and he was stunned by what he saw.

"That's not me," Layla muttered calmly and the next thing she heard was the sound of papers being torn. She snapped her head towards him in shock wondering what had come over him.

"Why did you tear it?" She asked in disbelief.

"Because it's not you," he said and Layla became speechless. She couldn't believe he could say that.

"You believe me?" She asked in disbelief.

"Yes, the person who edited it doesn't know your body proportions," he chuckled before he drove off as the light had moved from red to green.

"Wait, what! Are you that shameless?" She asked as her cheeks turned red. She faced the window not daring to look at him anymore.

"Are you shy?" He asked as he stared at her with amusement. It was obvious in his eyes as he had a rare smile on his lips.

"Who's shy? Please focus on driving so we won't end up dead," she said as she kept quiet. She wouldn't bother with him anymore.

Before long, they arrived home and Layla came out as though she wanted to escape from the car. She couldn't stand staying with him and she felt that the rumours surrounding him were all false. He wasn't a cold man but he was a wolf in sheep's clothing.

"Grandpa," Layla called stupefied that the old man had not gone to bed even at this hour.

"Why haven't you gone to bed? it's really late," Layla asked as she say down beside the old man. He might be a servant but he is the first person she felt genuine kindness from,so she was drawn to him.

"Grandpa, you shouldn't have done so,what if we came home later than this? Beginning from tomorrow, you would be subjected to sleeping early," Layla ordered.

"But..,"

"No buts, you are sleeping early, and that's final," she said as she pulled him to his feet in a bid to take him back to his room.

All this while, Miles only stared at the interaction between his grandpa and his future bride. He might not have told her that this was his grandpa, but he could feel Layla's intentions were pure.

Grandpa Brooks turned to look at Miles with a pleading look so he could help him out of his predicament but Miles smirk lightly teasing him. Grandpa Brooks closed his eyes in defeat as he surrendered to his situation.

"Here we are," Layla said as she brought him to his room. It's not surprising she knew his room as he had basically given her a tour of the house.

"Grandpa, you are the first person apart from my mom and Miles to treat me with kindness, so this is the little I can repay you with,I hope you live long,

And to live long, you have to have an healthy lifestyle, you should learn to sleep very early and not be too agitated as it would help in circulating your blood properly," Layla advises as she gave him a glass of water.

He collected it and felt increasingly satisfied with this grand daughter-in-law of his. She was so considerate, and was really different from all those ladies who he had sent his grandson.

"Thank you,I would pay attention to my health from now onwards," he said and she smiled at him.

"I'm glad,I would be in my room, I'm really exhausted, goodnight grandpa," she said as she left the room in a flurry.

Grandpa Brooks stared at the door even after she had left with a deep look. He sighed out and applauded his grandson's taste in women.

He lay on the bed and allowed his mind to wander. He wondered how Layla would react once she found out he lied to her about his identity. He only hoped she forgives him. Before he knew it, he fell asleep.

Layla got to her room and fell on the bed. Her mind went back to all the events of today and she breathed out. Thankfully, her mom was okay. She had to owe it to Miles who made the arrangements.

She slept off without taking a shower as she was really exhausted. Miles came into the room during the night and he sighed out due to how she slept. She had a terrible sleeping posture.

He removed her footwear as he laid her on the bed properly. He took a glance at her and he smiled cheekily.

"Everyone who have wronged you, I promise to deal with them, just stay with me, please," he said in an hushed voice before he left the room.
