Chapter 7 Seven

SCARLETT

I glanced at the clock and I saw it was already 10pm, I guess it was time to go home. The words of Dr Martins has been playing in my memory since we had the call, and let me tell you people, I have not even quarter of the money.

Jasmine said she was going to lend me thirty five thousand and my savings weren't up to ten thousand so you see I don't even have quarter of the money yet.

I had been racking my brain on where and how to get this money, I had only six days left. I packed my stuff and bid the manager goodnight, stepping outside.

The cold night air hit my face, and I took a deep breath as I started walking towards where I'd take the bus back to my house.

I couldn't waste money on cab. Just as I passed this fancy looking car, I heard my name. I turned back wondering who knew me, jasmine was my only friend.

I was met with the face of Damien Blackwell, that is if the darkness of the night wasn't deceiving me. I stared at him in confusion wondering how he knew my name and why he was calling for my attention.

"May I have a few minutes of your time?" He asked gently approaching me. I turned back trying to make sure I was the one he was talking to, and sure enough there was no one behind me.

"Hope there is no problem Mr Blackwell?"

"No not at all. I just have something I want to discuss with you" He replied, smiling sightly.

"Okay" And with that he back, opened his car and pulled out a briefcase before closing it back. He then led me into a coffee shop close by which had a few people in it. We took our sit, as he placed his briefcase on the ground beside his legs.

" Hope you had a good day at work?" He suddenly asked

" Uhm yh. I hope that's not why you called me here because I'd really like to get home right now" I stated in impatience.

On a good day I might have been polite but there has been nothing good about these days, I was tired.

"I'm sorry if that came out different" he said, scrunching up his face a little bit.

" I'm just going to cut to the chase then" he said. I nodded my head giving him a go ahead. This better be worth it.

"Marry me" He said those two words and i almost spit back the coffee i was sipping. Is this guy insane or what?

"Is that how you billionaires walk up to random people asking for their hand in marriage? I mean you don't even know me and I'm still wondering how you knew my name, but you stopped me on my way home and the next thing, you're asking me to marry you?" I replied with amusement in my voice. I wasn't really angry, just amused.

" Well you told us your name the first time we came to the restaurant you work, and we have met before. You just don't remember" he said again. I just stared at him honestly lost for words.

" Look I don't mean officially marry me, I just want you to pretend to be my wife for just 4 months and then we can get a divorce later and go our separate ways. Ofcourse it's not going to be free"

"Contract wife? Pay me?"

"Yes 1 million dollars for each month we stay married"

I turned my head sharply to look at him at the mention of the money. 1 million dollars to pretend to be his wife? This is too good to be true.

"And what makes you think I'll be willing to sign this contract with you. I mean I don't even know you. You could be plotting to kill me" I asked folding my arms while relaxing on the chair.

The thought of the money got my attention. I could pay my mum's hospital bills and still have a lot left.

"I'm not a serial killer, besides you and I know you need the money, plus you fit my criteria. I've watched you for days and I know you can execute the plan perfectly well. Or is the pay too small? I can add to it if it's not to your satisfaction" he chuckled deeply before replying me casually

Is this guy serious? What's too small in a million dollars. I was really contemplating the offer. I just had to pretend right? It can't be that hard. But my pride as a woman were seizing my words.

"I'm going to give you time to think about it. If you have made your decisions, here's my card" He said as he slid his business card to me before he stood up and walked out of the coffee shop.

I sat there still shocked at the whole scene that just unfolded before my eyes. After a while I got up and headed home.

Jasmine had called me earlier on to tell me she wasn't coming home tonight as she was going to be sleeping over at her boyfriends place. I was thankful for that as that would give me time and peace to think this through.

I laid in my bed later, still reminiscing about it. I wasn't even able to eat dinner, my mind was too occupied to think about food. My head was gradually starting to ache me due to the amount of thinking I had done, until I felt there was nothing to think about anymore.

I just hope I was about to make the right decision. This could either change my life for the better or for the worse. I picked up my phone and dialed the number on the card. I sat patiently on my bed as the line rang.

"Damien Blackwell speaking" I heard his baritone voice immediately he picked up the call

"I think I'm ready to sign the contract"
