Chapter 4 A promise I intend to keep

(Nicholas)

A knock sounded on my room door and from the scent of the person standing there, I could tell that it was my mother.

'Come in, Mom. You know you don't have to knock all the time.' I said through mind-link, hearing my mother laugh in response.

'I have to make sure you're decent. You're nineteen years old, after all.' Mom replied as she opened the door.

I could see the sadness already taking place in her eyes as she looked at me with pity. That was something that I hated seeing.

"Still no luck?" Mom asked any, I shook my head.

"None whatsoever. I have my guards searching day in and day out, but we are yet to come up with anything." I replied as I continued to look at myself in the mirror.

"It's been nearing a month, Nicholas. We have to come up with something else. We have to figure out how we can find her. Maybe she ran because she was scared." Mom said. I have thought about that, but I knew that that couldn't be it.

"Do you think I don't know that? I'm going to a meeting right now. We are trying to come up with ways of locating my mate. I'm not going to stop until she's by my side, where she belongs." That was a promise I intend to keep.

"I hope you succeed because you'll need her soon. You have to remember your wolf, Blue, is much stronger than you think. He fought through the pain of not having his mate here. Don't just do this for yourself." With that, Mom walks away, leaving me in a worse mood than before.

'I will find her Blue and I will bring her home, I promise.' I said, hoping that that was exactly what he wanted to hear.

'I hope so, I really hope so. But I'll be fine, just focus on you for now.' Blue replied before blocking me.

I sighed, knowing that I had a long day ahead that I wasn't looking forward to.

"Then what am I supposed to do, dammit! I can't just go on with my life knowing that my mate isn't here! I don't even know her name." My temper flared from the stupid question that my beta Jonah Clark asked. He should know better than to irritate me while I'm in this state.

"You know what the fuck you should do, Nicholas. You are sending our guards out there to find your mate, when you are the one who should be scoping out the packs for her. Do you not know how to use your nose?" I growled in annoyance as Jonah's voice was starting to irritate me. Forget that he's also my best friend, he's just so annoying sometimes.

"Do I look like I'm stupid? I know that I should be out there searching for her as well. It's just that..." Realizing what I wanted to say, he nodded his head and smiled at me.

"It's only that you haven't stepped foot outside this castle, and you feared you might act stupid in front of peasants?" I growled, wishing so much that he would stop talking. Ever since I told him about the guards who called my mate a peasant, he had been using it every chance he got.

"I am sitting here, wishing that I could kill you. You know that, right?" I asked, making him laugh.

"Yeah, you told me that every day. But seriously, Nicholas, it's been days since your mate left. Don't you think you should get over this fear of yours by now? You got over it at the ceremony by showing your face. Everyone drooled over you, gave you numbers and hoping that they could get some alone time with you." He started to tap his fingers on the table, which was irritating the fuck out of me.

"You once said that you hated humans, hated the way that they smell, right? That's why you stayed cooped up in this castle walls, growing insane as the years passed by. What you need to do, is to get over your fear and move on. It's not that hard to do." I guess he was right, but I wasn't going to tell him that.

"Plus, this is a fucking meeting, not a damn therapy session. You owe me a thousand bucks for wasting my time." My glare turned deadly, which had him shutting up. Good, I can't stand him sometimes.

"Now that you two stopped acting silly, what are you planning on doing, son?" Dad asked. I forgot that Jonah and I weren't the only ones here. My father and two more guards, as well as Cedric were here, waiting for my answer.

'Blue, what do you think?' I asked, wanting to involve my wolf more in this. I know that he felt lonely, so I tried to include him in plenty of meetings.

'Listen to Jonah. We have to go out there and find our mate. It's proven that the guards and warriors are idiots and not great trackers, so we have to do it ourselves.' Since he also agreed with Jonah, I guess I had no other choice but to go out there.

I shivered at the thought of being surrounded by humans. I could deal with other supernaturals, such as vampires, but when it came to humans it was a big hell no for me. That's what I loved about my pack, this castle was made specifically for the higher ranked wolves, no one had the authority to come and go as they pleased.

There are smaller houses that are built on this land for my pack members, they were comfortable as well and were never in need of anything. I cherished my space, but now I was about to give that up because of a very stubborn wolf.

"Okay, I will be leading the next search. Jonah is right, instead of being here cooped up like a coward, I should be out there as well. So, at daybreak tomorrow, I will leave here with a different group of guards and warriors. Those that failed to find her, will remain here and get extra training as punishment. Those two idiots who helped her to escape, are to also receive twenty lashes each, since they failed to find her as well. I will show no mercy this time." And I meant it. If I allowed them to walk away from this, without punishment, then they would feel like this was okay to get away with, if it happens again.

"I'll take care of the punishment part." Dad said, I smiled and nodded my head at him.

At least Jonah was proven useful for once, I will use this opportunity to find my mate, I won't stop at all.
