Chapter 5 The unexpected

Ryan

The next hour was the slowest in my life as I couldn't help but smile to myself. There was this inexplicable urge to see the lady once more, I was mesmerized by her beauty, her courage and the fact that at she's cute when she's nervous. I had finished dressing up and awaited her presence.

Niel came in and laughed as he saw me.

"What do we have here? Someone is happier than he was earlier today." He teased.

"Go away." I said jokingly.

He chuckled.

"You look handsome, too handsome to see a woman he's rejecting, what changed you?" He asked suspiciously.

"Shut up." I replied.

"What happened between you two?" He asked curiously.

I blushed and he burst into laughter.

"Love at first sight right? Shameless." He teased and I threw him a light punch.

"Get out!" I said lowly.

"So... You're getting married and making Cubs soon right? Brother...." Niel drawled.

I couldn't take his teasings and threw a pillow at him, he caught it and laughed at my shyness. I was lost for words completely. I opened my mouth to speak but a maid's entrance made me shut it.

"The lady is on her way." The maid announced.

I felt excited and adjusted uncomfortably on the bed.

"Bring her to the garden, he'll be awaiting her there." Niel ordered before I could speak.

The maid bowed and left.

"Why did you do that?" I asked, glaring daggers at him.

"Why did I do what?" He asked innocently.

"You little bastard." I cussed.

Niel chuckled.

"Father said he met with Mother at the garden and there their live bloomed, make your meeting a special one for your bride, don't be a helpless romantic alpha." Niel said, winked at me and l scowled at him.

I hated that he was somewhat right

Ryan (a month later)

I rolled from the bed and tried to stand when a petite hand grabbed me.

"Don't go." Helene moaned.

I chuckled softly and planted a kiss on her lips, she moaned against my lips and deepened it, I broke off the kiss and patted her hair lovingly.

"Good morning sunshine." I greeted.

"Good morning." She replied with a smile.

Though we just got married days before I still felt it was a dream.

"Why are you smiling to yourself?" She asked out if the blues.

"Nothing, I just can't believe I'm waking up next to you." I said truthfully.

"Why is that?" She asked curiously.

"A month ago I loathed your existence though I hadn't set eyes on you yet today we're in each other's arms cuddled up in love." I reminscied

She laughed softly.

"Love happens in the least expected ways, to think I'd blurt out everything to you the first time I set eyes on you." She said.

"Thank you for loving me and agreeing to marry me, I can't imagine a life without you." J confessed.

"Neither do I plan on living without you." She said.

"Let's let old together and see our fifth generation." I said encouragingly.

Helene smiled and I felt my day couldn't get any better.

"I'll have to get up now, we have to attend to the pack affairs, I'm the alpha remember?" I said as she clung to me.

She whined and pouted.

"Can't you take the day off?"

"You're the Luna now, get off the bed." I said and chuckled.

She reluctantly let me go and I prepared for the day. Helene clung to me for the rest of the morning and wouldn't let me out of her sight, everyone found this attractive. When evening came, Niel contacted me through the mind-link asking us to meet at our secret meeting spot and I sent him back a message saying I'd see him in an hour's time.

It took a lot of convincing for Helene to let me go and she only did because I told her I'd be meeting up with Niel. I haven't seen him after my marriage and was excited as I saw his frame from a distance. Our meeting spot was a cabin in the woods known only to us. We built it when we were much younger as our rendezvous and hiding place.

I snuck up to him and tried to sweep him off his feet but he was faster and he pinned me down instead, he helped me up as we both laughed heartily. His face suddenly fell.

"I'm sorry I had to call you up this early." Niel apologized.

"Anything for you, what's wrong?" I asked worriedly.

"Her words are materializing, I tried wolfing out yesterday and it took longer than expected and look, I got invited for few days now and it hasn't healed." Niel said worriedly as he showed me an open wound.

I sighed deeply, this was a secret we kept between us. I knew Niel to be strong but this incidence shook him terribly, his hands are even shaking.

"Tomorrow, let's meet here, there's someone I know that can help." I said reassuringly.

He nodded his head in acknowledgement.

"Thank you, you should leave now, don't keep the new bride waiting." He said with a smile.

I smiled and gently squeezed his palm, he was the most important person in my life.

"Go ahead, I want to longer a lot around the cabin, I'll be home soon." I said dismissively.

He nooded and left.

Niel

I felt relieved as I had seen Ryan because I knew he'd always proffer a solution to my problems, I settled down to sleep when I felt something was off. At first I brushed it off but then the feeling came stronger. I became restless and tried to figure out what had happened and then it struck me that the tingles only happen when Ryan was in danger.

Without second thoughts I ran off to the cabin and yelled Ryan's name but got no response, I was about to give up and go back home thinking it was just a tingle when a frame caught my eye. I ran to the figure lying on the bare ground. I turned him to come face to face with Ryan covered with blood.

"Ryan." I cried.

"Niel." He stuttered as he struggled to breathe, he cupped my face with his bloodied hands.

I carried him immediately and began to run towards the pack and I suddenly felt his body went numb, my twin died in my hands.
