Chapter 4 MOMMY'S SON

William's POV

I knew my mom wasn't going to let us off the hook that easily, she wasn't wired that way.

"Wait" she called out and walked to the distance we could cover before her head comprehended the information.

"How did you meet her?" She asked

Fuck!

Fuck!!

Fuck!!!

Maybe I shouldn't be this quick to tell a lie, especially when I haven't fully thought of all the background story and the web of lies that could accompany it.

"We met in__in a women's conference"

I said biting my lips, I could see her chuckle a bit, I know that was a funny way of meeting, but that was the best my brain could come up with in a short period of time.

I didn't know anything about this lady and there was no way I was telling my mum she is a cleaner; That would be a giant red flag for her.

"What women's conference was that?" She inquired.

"Well, I attended one last year, it was supposed to be one of the causes we supported. And she is a girl child advocate"

I could see Halle trying so hard not to laugh -I was also trying so hard not to laugh. I was saying a lot of gibberish and I was hoping my mother wouldn't see through my bullshit.

"I think I remember the conference, but you never told me you met a lady there"

I breathed out, knowing my lies were finally paying off.

"I wasn't sure exactly what it was until we got talking and found out we had a lot in common. That was when we started going out on dates and here we are" I said gently.

You know what they say about lies, it is built-in series-tell a lie and you get yourself hundreds of lies. But so far, I was victorious in this series. I just needed to hold on to the end.

And I must say this lady is quite cooperative, she wasn't contributing but she wasn't also complicating matters.

She must know who I am, it must be a privilege for her to be called my girlfriend. A cleaner is being called the CEO girlfriend. But somehow I felt she didn't care that much, she was standing before the CEO.

When I started my career after my dad died when I was barely an adult. Everyone said I wouldn't make it and get distracted by women. It was a fact that during my teenage days I was surrounded by a lot of women because of my looks, it was a form of distraction to me. My mum always said that.

"William, you know all these women are after your money and success, they aren't good for you. Focus and forget about all of them"

It was great advice, but all my teenage hormones wouldn't let me think straight, then my mum introduced me to Bella Rossi, the same lady we just argued about. She told me to date her, we went out on a couple of dates but I found out she wasn't my type, I say this in the nicest way possible -she was too robotic, too agreeable. I needed a girl who was different, who could challenge me on my bullshit, and trust me I have a lot of that. That girl wasn't Bella Rossi, so when my mum kept insisting I should not only date her but also get married to her. This was my solution, I had to come up with a lie, a lie with a complete stranger.

"I must say I am not happy that you kept such a secret from me. And you are dating a girl I know nothing about, but I would like to get to know her more" my mum said.

This would be a problem because I only said I was dating this cleaner girl to get my mum off my back. I was at the peak of my career, a run a billion-dollar company, I was making headlines, reaching milestones, achieving things my peers weren't achieving but most importantly I was making my dad proud, when my dad died, it was the wake-up call I needed, I had to cut off all the girl, I spent most of my time, reading, working and studying. I even got my degree in business school. I was striving to be a man my father-if alive, would be proud to call his son.

Now here I was, curing one form of distraction with another. But I do not think this would be a problem because I would be only doing it to get my mum off my back and that alone.

"Sure mum, you will get to know her more," I said and I could feel her tighten her grip on me, it was almost like she wasn't in support.

"How about dinner?"

"Dinner?" we both chorused

"Yes dinner, tomorrow"

"I am____" I could hear her almost saying no and I interrupted her.

"Sure," I said swiftly.

I worked too hard for this lady to spoil my plans with a quick "No" for an answer.

"Alright, tomorrow then," she said and turned her back to leave and stopped.

"This place feels wet," she said pointing at the floor

"Get someone to clean it as soon as possible"

"Will do mum"

I held her hands as I lead her to the office before my mum asked another question.
