Meyer's POV
It's been a week and I have accepted my fate. I just have to keep working so hard to take care of myself and my child. This is reality, this is life. I just have to keep going. I just have to continue moving on. Life goes.
I got the orders from the customers and as I was about to serve them, then some men walked in police uniform.
Then as soon as they saw me, they walked up to me.
"Excuse me, are you, Miss. Meyer Gomez?"
I looked confused for a while but since I hadn't done anything wrong to warrant a police coming for me, I spoke the truth.
"Of course, yes. I am Meyer Gomez. How may I help you?"
"Miss. Meyer Gomez. You are under arrest."
"Under arrest? For what? What have I done?"
"She is under arrest? For what? What has she done?" That was from Miley.
"Yes, what have I done?"
"I am sorry but when you get to the police station, you will be told what you have done."
"Handcuff her hands." The policeman who led them ordered another one and before I knew it, I was handcuffed and they took me away.
"Handcuff my hands? No way, what have I done?"
"I didn't do anything to warrant an arrest." I blurted.
"When you get to the prison, you will know what you did wrong."
Just then they began to drag me away like I was some criminal who just committed a murder. Just then, Miley stopped them.
"Wait! You can't just whisk her away like she is some criminal. Where is the Arrest warrant? We don't even know if it's authorized."
"It is authorized. And if you want to know what she did wrong, you have to come to the police station yourself."
"I need to know what I did wrong. I can't just..."
"Every word you use shall be used against you in the court of law. So you should keep quiet." The policeman who led them here in the first place said and I was taken into the car. Through the mirror, I saw Miley trying to board a taxi. A car almost hit her in the process. I gasped in shock.
*
I was made to sit in front of a woman. A middle-aged woman who was enough to be my mother. I didn't know who she was but with the way she was glaring at me, it was like I had done something wrong with her and it was starting to look like she was the reason why I was here in the first place.
"So you are the woman who murdered my husband?" She raised her voice at me. I shifted back a little.
"What? Excuse me? Murder your husband? I don't even know what you are talking about."
"Even when you are in jail, you still have the nerve to deny what you did."
"Weren't you the one who murdered my husband, Lopez?"
"I know Mr. Lopez but I didn't murder him. Did you know what he did to me? Your husband tried to rape me. He tried to make me sleep with him and I defended myself."
"You defended yourself and you got him killed in the process, how dare you?"
"How dare me? Are you even human at all? Are you even a woman? I told you what he did to me. What if it was your daughter in this position? Uh?"
"The nerve you have! I detest your spirit."
"You are going to jail whether you like it or not. You made me a widow. How dare you?"
"Please, ma'am. I am begging you. I am begging you. Have mercy on me. I don't know anything about this. Don't send me further to jail. Please."
"No matter what, you deserve to rot in jail. You killed my husband."
"I did not kill your husband."
"I am begging you," I added with tears rolling out of my eyes. I remembered the fact that I was pregnant and I couldn't raise my child in jail like this. It's going to be bad. I don't deserve to be here. I didn't do anything wrong.
"I am begging you, please. Help me! Don't put me in jail."
"Let's meet in court next week, Miss. Meyer Gomez."
"No, please. Don't take me to court. I don't know anything about it. He tried to rape me. He could have gotten injured despite that I hit him while trying to save myself. I didn't kill him." I spoke.
Mrs. Lopez turned around and walked away.
I stood up and was about to follow her to plead with her but I was grabbed and held back. I was dragged back to the car. I didn't kill him. I was sure. I only stabbed him with a pen and the pen couldn't have gone deeper. I was only trying to save myself.
"Officer, please help me."
"You can only help yourself if you get yourself a good lawyer to defend your case in the court of law."
I don't even have any money. I don't know what to do right now. Not long after, I was told Miley was here to see me. I was taken out of the cell again. When she saw me, she hugged me. She pulled me in a hug.
"I am sorry...I am sorry this happened to you. I promise you. I am going to find a way to get you out of here. I will get you a good lawyer. I promise."
"I don't know, Miley. I don't have money. We don't have any money. I can't afford to raise my child in jail like this. I can't afford to do it like this. My whole life is in shreds." I cried.
"Please don't cry anymore. You are pregnant. It's going to be affecting the baby. Please." Miley said.
"I tried to plead with Mr. Lopez's wife but she told me that we will meet in court."
"I will get some help, I promise."
