Chapter 4 DIFFICULT TO HIDE

After escaping through the window, she fell hard on the ground, but didn't mind the scratches.

Getting to the roadside, she stopped a cab and, surprised, no one was coming after her.

Stopping not far from her small apartment, she had a change of mind.

"Take me else where." She said to the driver. She wasn't going to her apartment this time, no, it was her friend's place. She was too worried, even though she had no reason to. But the fact that she'd almost finished her job and failed was too much for her.

As she walked on, she couldn't help but think she had given up easily. Surely, she could have jabbed the dagger in his heart before she left, but something held her back the last seconds. She could do nothing but regret it now.

She reached in her pocket and drew out the keys to the apartment. It was weird that she had the keys to her friend's apartment, but it was like that between her and Eva. They both had keys to each other's apartment.

Ramona stepped quietly into the small room. It was already night, so the lights were off. There, on a small brown couch, was a girl, her dyed pink hair in a ponytail and a few peculiar tattoos on her face. She was splayed adorably on the couch, a soft snore coming from her slightly parted lips. Ramona would have smiled at the sight of her friend, but she was far from being in a good mood.

She walked to her and tapped her arms, gently. Eva stirred, and her soft brown eyes opened, slightly red at the rims. She was so used to Ramona's sudden night visit that it didn't scare her when she opened her eyes.

"Did you cry?" Ramona asked, her voice raised slightly higher than usual.

"It's nothing, Ram, leave it."

"No. Tell me!" Ramona insisted, reaching for her friend, she pulled her in a hug. Eva didn't speak, but she returned the hug. Ramona was worried, if there was anything she knew, it was that her friend was strong, really few things could make her cry.

Ramona pulled away to ask again, but she was halted by the fresh tears in her eyes.

"Tell me." Ramona said, softly, this time.

"It's Greg... The fool. He ended our relationship today." Eva finally spoke, and Ramona felt anger surge through her veins. Greg, the stupid fool she'd been trying to protect her friend from.

"The idiot! I'll deal with him!" Ramona said as she frowned and Eva gasped.

Ramona paused, then looked at her. Her hand was on her mouth, her eyes wide.

"When I said 'deal with him' you imagined me killing him, right?" Ramona said, quietly.

"So you see me as a cold-blooded killer, huh?"

"No! I swear, I would never think that." Eva said, quickly moving towards Ramona.

Ramona stared at her for a while, then she relaxed with a sigh.

"I know you wouldn't, I'm sorry." She ran a hand through her hair, "it's just ... I'm a bit worked up tonight."

"What's wrong?" Eva asked, softly, moving to lean against the wall.

"Forget it, you just broke up, I would feel guilty burdening you each time with my affairs."

"Don't be silly. Greg's a jerk, that is what he is, you can't possibly think that I'd neglect my best friend because of him, right? I mean, the breakup was bound to happen anyway. " Bertha rambled on and Ramona smiled.

" I know. " And then, after a pause; " Kleinfelter sent me on another mission." She said.

"Shit! That stupid son of a bitch! " Eva cursed, without as much as a pause to breathe, and Ramona grinned again. Her best friend was always good at cursing.

"Who is it this time?"

"I don't know... But I have this picture." Ramona said, and showed it to Eva, as it was in her pocket. Eva immediately grabbed it from her hands to take a closer look.

"Oh shit! Shit, shit. SHIT. This cannot be true. Do you have a death wish?" Eva exclaimed as her eyes widened.

"What is it?" Ramona tilted her head at the weird way her friend was acting.

"The man in the picture is Mr. Dranon Brook. One of the youngest self-made billionaires in the world."

"Who is Mr. Dranon Brook?" Ramona asked.

"Baby girl, who on earth doesn't him? His name is Dranon Brook Atticus but, he prefers Dranon Atticus. He happens to be one of the youngest self-made billionaires in the world!"

Ramona's brows raised, she might have heard her uncle mention the name before .. Eva did not stop there.

"Owns many hotels and resorts, Currently twenty-nine years old, h–"

"Stop." Ramona cut her off.

"Did you manage to kill him?" Eva asked, her brown eyes wide. Curiously, waiting for a response.

"That's the problem right now. I couldn't. And if he's the infamous Dranon Atticus as you said, then I might be in trouble." Ramona bite her lower lip after what she said.

Eva held in whatever she was about to say, and Ramona sent her a thankful glance. Her friend knew her well. But Eva wanted to ask how she could be so careless enough to go for a mission without first, making a thorough research.

She went to the counter and brought a drink, then she opened it and poured it in a cup, passing it to Ramona.

"Here, drink."

"No, thanks, a hungover tomorrow morning would be the last thing I need." Ramona protested as she shook her head, as if served poison.

"I wish I could help you."

"It's okay, you have too much on your shoulders already, I don't expect you to."

"But–"

"Don't worry about me, Eva, if you don't mind, I'll like to take a shower now, I feel so sweaty. It's not like he can find me anyway, he doesn't know me, sure, my next attempt would be harder, but I can pull through. " Ramona said swiftly and Eva finally nodded.

She hated that Dranon was the target but, her friend wasn't to be blamed.

" Okay. I'll be out here waiting, want to stay over here tonight?" Eva asked and Ramona nodded.

"Good then, I've got popcorn, A bag of it and I rented a movie earlier today. " Eva said, smiling. Ramona returned the smile and thanked her.

"Thank you, Eva. " Ramona turned to say, her friend merely grinned.

Spending hours until the next evening, Ramona sat, lazing on the coucha. She had the house all to herself, and Eva would not be returning until night. Feeling really bored, she picked up her phone to play a random game.

Just as she opened the app, her phone rang, she picked up the call without looking and brought it to her ears.

"Hello, Ramona. " A voice sounded in her ears. Deep, low, she recognized it at once. Ramona sprang up from the couch, feeling her heart beat spike up inside her chest.

'No, it can't be. Oh, no. This is not happening.' She cried in her mind while panicking.

"How... Did you get my number?" Ramona said, fighting the tremors from reaching her voice, but she failed. He must have heard it because he chuckled, a low, velvety sound. Ramona certainly didn't know why she noticed.
