Chapter 2 The promise

Flashback: Year 2011

"Thank you Alpha King Rogan for honoring my request for this meeting. I'm sorry we had to meet under these circumstances" Uthar said as he offered his bruised hands for a handshake.

"It's alright Alpha King Uthar, I hear your pack has been continuously attacked by rogues..." Rogan asked even though the evidence of the war was quite obvious with Uthar's bruised skin and the rumble that was left of the pack due to the continuous attack. The whole pack was on fire and they were barely hanging on a thread.

Uthar chuckled dryly, he was an alpha king seeking help from another. He was not happy about it but he had no choice at the moment because for some reason rogues wouldn't let them be. These rogues were strange in the fact they didn't look sick and were twice as powerful, at this rate, the entire pack would be completely wiped off if nothing was done. Hence the ass licking...

"Yes, Half the pack is already dead, and the buildings have been reduced to nothing. These rogues are different from the usual ones we all know, stronger and more in tune with their bodies. I have tried to find out why they keep attacking my pack but I have found nothing. I couldn't even leave to visit you at your pack for fear of rogues attacking again, that's why I called you over instead" Uthar lamented bitterly. The two kings were currently in the tattered building that used to be the pack's house. It was the only building 'semi-standing' and that's where the remaining pack members also resided. Noise could be heard of children's cries and laughs, some women treating injured men, some cooking and others watching the children. They were making do with what they had left...

"Hmmm, so what can I do for you?" Rogan asked.

"We need help, a place for the pack to stay and more warriors to help us fight," Uthar said

"And what's to say that the rogues won't be angered by my help and attack my pack? I mean from what you said, these rogues are not just rogues..."

"Then what's to say that they won't attack your pack after mine has been wiped out? As far as these rogues are still in existence, they remain a threat to everyone. It's better to join hands and wipe them off now so they don't get even stronger" Uthar countered with a little gnashing of his teeth. He was frustrated and a little irritated that Rogan was playing hard to get.

"Hmmm, you are right about that," Rogan said with a thoughtful face. "This is a serious problem that I would have to think over. I wouldn't want to risk the safety of my pack by looking for trouble with those rogues when we aren't directly enemies. And at the same time, I wouldn't want my pack to suffer in the future because I failed to tackle the issue now" he added.

Alpha King Uthar cursed under his breath, it was clear that Rogan was having fun toying with him. It was said that Rogan was even more cruel and heartless than his father and now Uthar got to witness it firsthand.

"There is no time to think, my pack is on the verge of extinction," Alpha King Uthar said lowly. "What do you want? What can I give you in exchange for your help?" He asked, looking at Rogan dead in the eyes.

Rogan smirked at him, those were the words he wanted to hear, "Do you think you would be able to buy my help with your current condition?" he scorned.

Alpha King Uthar's hands folded into fists as he looked at Rogan with red eyes, "What do you want then?"

Suddenly there were approaching little footsteps, the two kings turned in the direction of the noise and a pretty little girl appeared. She was around five or six years old, she had beautiful green eyes and long auburn hair. Her pearly whites were on display as if she wasn't in the middle of the war.

"What are you doing here? Go and join the others quickly" Uthar scolded as soon as he saw her.

Her face dimmed down as soon as she heard Alpha King Uthar's voice. She bowed her head and said, "Alpha king uncle, commander said I should tell you that he has done as you said" Her little voice was as light as a feather but still audible to be heard by werewolves.

"Okay, you can leave now" Uthar waved her off without even looking at her. She turned around and scurried off immediately, the pressure of two alpha kings was too imposing. Uthar returned his focus to Rogan but he caught Rogan looking at the place where the departed little girl stood, absentmindedly.

Uthar's calculating steely grey eyes immediately flickered with a profound light, "Her name is Nina, she's my niece. Her parents died last week during the early attacks from the rogues..." He spoke up with a sly smile.

Rogan recovered himself and smiled, "She's an Omega, too weak..."

"But she's fresh and young, she will be a good breeder to raise your children seeing that you are yet to find your true mate" Uthar countered.

Alpha King Rogan was quiet as he thought about Uthar's offer. Something was strange about that little girl but he just couldn't place his finger on it, he felt the urge to take her away despite seeing her for the first time.

He always trusted his instincts no matter as it has never failed him so he looked up to Uthar and said with a striking smile, "I'll help you... you can pick an empty land from my territory to start over with your pack and as for the rogues, I'll deal with them if they come knocking"

"And in return?..." Uthar asked even though he had an inkling of Rogan's desire. He was pleased that he was able to get help from Rogan to save his pack for such minimal cost.

"In return, Nina is mine. I'll come for her when she turns eighteen" Rogan smirked.
