David's POV.

Thanks." I let out as Irene quickly helps me to remove my suit. She hurried over to the very moment

she heard driver sweep into the garage of the mansion.

"My pleasure, sir." She whispers in response, a smile flavoring her words. She tries to step away and take the suit to my room but my question makes her stop.

"You haven't gone home yet?" I ask, wondering why she's still in the mansion. Usually, she goes home once it strikes ten p.m and now it's

already 1 a.m.

Irene's in her mid-forties, just a few years older than me. She's married to one Andrew White, who works as a cab driver.

They literally got married just a few months ago and she's been caring for Andrew's two children.

Initially, Irene was a live-in maid but things changed when she and Andrew got married. She requested

to still work for me and so to make things easy for her, I asked her to no longer be my live-in maid.

Hence, every day Irene ends her shift around 10 p.m.

She turns to face me with a touch of smile on he face. "Andrew went to visit his parents with the kids. So I decided to sleep over. I hope it's still accepted?" She drops her voice at the last sentence.

I give her a shrug, I don't

mind her staying the night or however

long it takes. She thanks me again and skid away to tuck my suitcase and suit in my room.

I huff a short breath as I pad into the house. My eyes search for Andrei. I know by now Vee would be asleep. Yet, my blood pulses to go and check up on her.

At that conclusion, I wander up the staircase and hightail it down the hallway to her room. I get of glimpse of my room door ajar and Irene's there tucking my sheets perfectly into the edges of the bed.

When I get to Vee's door I stop briefly with my eyes closed. I want to tamp my feelings down before I venture into her room.

Fuck, it hasn't been easy for me to have Vee around since the moment

she turned eighteen.

I always find myself

"The heck? Why don't

you call your dad's men to pick you up?" I walk downstairs while I converse with her.

"Shit, David. My battery's low and you're the first person that flashed through my mind, so I opted to call you." She literally

speaks like a damsel in distress.

I'm no knight in a shining armor but it's

already dark and the August mid-night must be chilling her bones. Plus, I'm the last person she was with. So if anything happens

to her, her father will gun me down.

I don't want that. With a huff of breath, I utter. "Where are you?"

And then Claire tells me her exact location and I quickly send my driver to pick her up. As I make it to the kitchen, I clamp the fridge open and grab some milk and cookies.

While on my munching feast, Andrei walks up to me. The man only grabs a few minutes sleep and is back on guard.

I didn't bother checking up on him before because I knew he'd be asleep.

"David." His bass voice gets to me and I grin at him.

"Already awake?" I ask, taking a gulp of milk from the glass.

"Yeah..."

"Tell me about her day?" I demand, interrupting his words.

It's my ritual every day. I always make Andrei recount all that Vera did during the day out. I feel a sense of satisfaction knowing her whereabouts and shits.

It gives me the assurance she doesn't cheat nor mess around. And mostly that she's safe from the men wanting to get her. I grimace at the last thought.

Andrei sighs and says. "She's angry...at you."

I pause, knowing she'll be. I disappointed her on her day. Andrei looks at me and huffs.

"What's there to look? Make it up to her." He advises.

Andrei has been with me for years so he knows me front and back. He knows fully my feelings for her.

I'm fucking thankful he takes my side and wasn't judgmental that I have feelings for her like I did for her mother.

"I'll try. But you know it's

not that easy, right?" I probe with a sagging shoulder.

Vee can be one strong-headed girl. Nothing begs to differ between her and Helen. Like mother like daughter.

"Anyways..." Andrei's voice cuts through my thoughts and I gaze up at him. "She went to her friend's

pool party. A debauched one."

A line forms between

my brows at his words. How could he have allowed her to attend such parties, dammit! I curse inwardly, only to realize I literally

voiced out my curse words.

"I didn't know she was heading there. You know how She could be? She didn't make it known it was something of that nature she was attending."

Whatever else Andrei was intoning didn't

permeate through my fuzzy mind. I all but picture these high school boys touching what's mine to keep and I growl inwardly. Too bad, the growl fizzed outside too.

"Did someone touch her?" I ask and upon Andrei's nod, I stand on my feet and launch myself at him!

"How could you fucking let that happen?" my blood boil as I fuss over him, tightening my fist around his nape as anger rain down on me.
