Chapter 5 V

She could not believe it.

How on earth could this happen?

Scarlet held her hand as though she was seeing through her pain.

"He is the one."

Leila's voice trembled.

"Who?"

"I don't know. Something is wrong with my memory."

She racked her brain trying to remember.

She felt numb. She was sure the memory of him flickered through her head just now.

It was just like she caught a glimpse of it.

She was perplexed as she slumped down in bed.

She knew something was wrong with her memory of David.

It felt like that part of her memory of him vanished.

What was that memory?

ONE MONTH LATER

Leila had gotten used to the incessant glares at the workplace.

She was the secretary who had won the CEO's heart.

She's envied and disliked by her co-workers.

They had witnessed David talking politely to Leila, and it had shocked them a great deal.

Leila had duly followed the rules like her life depended on them.

Few employees had started treating Leila nicely. They believed she was in a romantic relationship with the CEO, and she might end up getting married to him.

Getting on her good side became essential for them.

However, Leila did not care. Her heart beat only for David. She was head over heels in love with him.

She could not fight against it, or deny it.

One busy work day, when the humming sound of fax machines was the loudest, David had called Leila to his office as usual.

Leila had forgotten about the smiling rule. She had stopped keeping a straight face.

She was impeccably dressed. Her tailored suit and perfectly fitted trousers flattered her figure.

Her dress sense had improved.

Her long dark hair was pulled back in a ponytail. Her necklace and dangling pair of earrings complemented her overall look.

She was breathtakingly beautiful.

She knocked once and entered.

David was sipping his morning coffee. He smiled broadly when he saw Leila.

It was as if he had been longing for her presence. Leila's face lighted up when she saw David.

No daft person would not see the tiny sparkles of love in Leila's eyes. David knew she had feelings for him. He liked to see the sparkles in her eyes.

Leila was not the type that knew how to perfectly conceal feelings for someone. It's evident on her face, her incessant smile, and her voice.

David dressed in a manner that exuded credibility and authority. His tailored suit was clean with his perfectly tied neckties and polished shoes that represented elegance.

He watched as Leila read out his scheduled appointment with clients for the day.

He watched her luscious lips as she talked. He wasn't concentrating on what she was saying.

He stared at her for long. He knew he would not be able to control himself around her any longer.

Leila had done something to him. Her heavenly smile had tampered with his mind.

It had clouded his eyes. He had been blind and had not paid attention to the rules she had been breaking recently.

He cared more about having her around than her abiding by the rules.

She was now the rule. Having her by his side was the rule.

Leila had stopped talking. She was expecting David to respond to her but he was lost in his thought.

She wondered what he was thinking with his eyes staring her in the face.

She called to him silently. He still was lost in thought.

She touched his hand and called him again.

He held back her hand almost immediately and furrowed her brows at her.

He was offended he touched him.

"Have you gotten so comfortable around me that you have to forget the rules?"

Leila was lost.

"I see you have forgotten your place."

Leila's eyes widened. She had been breaking the rules for some time now, and she had not realized it.

She had been so comfortable around him that she had forgotten about the rules.

She didn't mean to touch him.

He was lost in thought and was not paying attention to what she was saying.

How would she explain to him it was unintentional?

It would have been easy to explain if this was the first time she was breaking a rule.

Her face creased into a serious frown.

"I am sorry to have passed my boundary. It's unintentional."

"Leila. I have been too easy on you."

Those words felt like a two-edged sharp knife piercing her heart.

Her heart began to pound hard against her ribs. She felt hurt and disappointed.

"You're pushing me to the edge. The very edge I have no control over."

He leaned forward.

"You are pushing me, Leila."

His voice was breaking.

A bitter lump formed in her throat. She could not swallow it.

She wanted to burst open.

Did he not see how hard she had fallen for him?

She badly wanted to have him by her side, and for herself alone.

She wanted to say it all to his face.

Why could he be so mean to her? She wanted to cry out hard and loud.

Where was the tough girl who never batted an eyelid?

She was now a weakling to love.

When the fuck did she start falling for him?

He should not have been nice to her from the onset.

She wanted to punch him hard.

She wanted him to love her as much as she loved him.

Tears welled up in her eyes.

David pinched his eyebrows. He knew it. She had pushed him to the edge.

She's a beautiful lady after all.

"Why?"

He said breathlessly.

Never tearing his gaze away from her lips.

He leaned forward, his face closer to hers now.

He tilted his head and brushed his lips over hers.

He slowly slid his tongue into her mouth. The tears slowly slid down her face.

This felt like a dream. She never wanted to wake up from this deep slumber.

He could no longer control himself. He wanted more. More of her.
