Chapter 8 I Am Married

"Good morning, Esteban!"

As soon as Esteban arrived at the office, his assistant, Rodrigo Sawyer, came over and greeted him with a grin.

"What's my schedule this morning?" Esteban asked indifferently, getting down to business.

"You're such a model worker. Relax, will you?"

Despite saying so, Rodrigo still handed over the schedule to Esteban.

The two had known each other for many years, and they were very good friends outside of work. Therefore, when there was no one else around, Rodrigo would always say whatever he wanted to say.

Giving him a cold glance, Esteban asked icily, "Do you have nothing else to do?"

"You, of all people, should know how heavy my workload is." Rodrigo complained a little, but then he broke into a wide grin. "Fortunately for me, my girlfriend loves me very much. She cooks delicious food for me every day and gives me a massage as soon as I get home from work. She's the best!"

Esteban frowned unhappily.

Ignoring him, Rodrigo continued excitedly, "And she even prepared a lunchbox for me this morning. Oh, sorry-I forgot you're single. Well, I guess you can only envy me."

All of a sudden, Katherine's pretty face came to Esteban's mind.

He inevitably pictured her busy figure in the kitchen this morning, recalling the delicious breakfast she made.

His eyebrows gradually relaxed. "I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm a married man now."

"What?" Rodrigo was so stunned that he couldn't help but raise his voice. "Are you serious? Weren't you still single the other night? Oh, God-you didn't come to work yesterday, and now, you're telling me you're married. What's happening to this world?"

"Why do you think I didn't come to the company yesterday?" Esteban squinted at Rodrigo as though he was looking at an idiot.

Rodrigo's curiosity was instantly aroused. Wriggling his brow at his friend, he lowered his voice and fired questions at Esteban non-stop.

"Wow, you are so efficient. How the hell did you get married so fast? You know, I've been wondering what kind of woman can warm your stone-cold heart. Hey, do you have any pictures of her? What's her name? How did you two meet? How long have you known each other? Are you living together now?"

Being ambushed with all these questions, Esteban felt a little annoyed. Knowing that he'd inevitably divorce Katherine a year from now, he didn't want to make their relationship public to too many people.

Thus, Esteban ignored all of Rodrigo's questions and handed a pile of documents to him. "Since you have all the time in the world to gossip about my private life, I should find you more work to do."

Rodrigo looked down at the thick stack of documents that was just handed to him. He forced a smile that was uglier than crying and grumbled, "You always know just what to say, don't you?"

Esteban smiled in satisfaction. When he was about to get to work, his phone rang. It was his grandmother calling.

As soon as the call connected, Lainey's vigorous voice came from the other end of the line. "Cancel all those useless social engagements and get off work early so that you can pick Katherine up from work, understood?"

Esteban waved his hand at Rodrigo dismissively, indicating that the latter should go out first. As soon as the door was shut behind him, Esteban said to his grandma reluctantly, "We'll see."

"We'll see? No! You must pick her up every day starting now!" Lainey barked harshly. "Didn't you say that you'd start listening to me this year? Or do you want to go back on your words?"

Esteban paused and sighed in resignation.

That night, in Moonlight Apparel Company, Katherine was working overtime, whereas Darrell sat at the door to the office.

As soon as the police arrived, he rushed towards the nearest officer and said, "Sir, our company's design has been leaked. I suspect that it was Katherine Morgan who did it."

Katherine couldn't help but roll her eyes at Darrell in exasperation. "What nonsense are you talking about? If I was the one who did it, why on earth would I have called the police on myself?"

"I wouldn't bet on that. What if you're just trying to make it seem like you're innocent? You were the one in charge of the design. No matter what, you should take responsibility for this." Then, turning back to the police, Darrell ordered, "Take Katherine away and interrogate her severely. Or else she'll never admit to her crimes!"

After some slight hesitation, the police approached and surrounded Katherine.

"Miss Morgan, please come with us."

Katherine didn't protest. She followed two policemen out, but they were stopped by a tall, handsome man at the door.

The man asked, "What's going on?"

Katherine raised her head and met the man's gaze. Seeing his familiar face, her heart skipped a beat.

"Esteban, why are you here?"
