Chapter 5 5

There was happiness written all over Claudia's face. She couldn't wait to dismiss the doctor. This was way more important, For her to pay the bills, she needs a job and with this message, she's a step closer to getting it.

"Thank you, Doctor," she replied. She didn't know why she was thanking him, she didn't even know the last thing they were discussing but she needed to leave for her interview.

"You welcome Claudia, trust me they will be fine" Doctor Ivan replied.

Claudia shot the door behind her and left. She has just 20 minutes to get there.

"Taxi, taxi" she shouted. She eventually got one and entered, with the way she acted. One would think she's been called for an emergency, but she can't be blamed, even if she didn't pass the interview, this was the first company getting back to her after she applied, so the enthusiasm was Justified.

"Welcome Miss Claudia, you may sit for a while."

Claudia was all smiles. She was on her best behavior even to the security. She truly needs the job and would bow to anyone to get it.

But then she noticed she was the only one. She had expected to see a crowd or something, how come the receptionist called her name even without her mentioning it? But that is not what is important right now!

Another lady then walked up to her.

"You must be Miss Claudia right?"

"Yes, I am" she replied almost immediately before she could finish asking.

"Follow me" the lady then said and Claudia complied.

She opened the office for Claudia to enter and shut it immediately behind her, returning to her desk.

Claudia sat down waiting to be questioned. The man was faced backward with his chair, and then gradually he rotated the seat in her direction.

"Congratulations Claudia, you are now hired as the secretary of J&J fashion." David Wilson said, stretching out his hands.

Claudia couldn't believe it. Just like that, no interview, no questioning, this was way easier than she expected.

The joyful expression on her face couldn't be hidden, not until she looked up to receive the hand in front of her.

Her eyes widened in horror. It was as if she was dreaming. She was hallucinating. Her mouth was shaky, she wanted to speak but words weren't forthcoming.

To be sure she tapped her cheeks to awaken herself but she saw it was real. There was no way the man she met yesterday was the one hiring her.

"My hands are hanging," David said ignorantly despite knowing what was going on.

"Are you not happy to get the job, If you are not, you can reject it" he said with a smirk. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Claudia shakes her head in disapproval. "I am happy, I want the job," she said with embarrassment.

"You should, you are broke and jobless and you need the money, you can't reject it," he said looking straight into her eyes without blinking.

Those words surely hurt a lot but not like she can do anything about it.

"Yes, I am broke and I need the money" she answered in a shaky tone, forcing herself not to be seen breaking down.

"Broke and proud indeed, one would think with the gots you have is the same as the money in your account," he said sarcastically.

"What?" She asked. At this point. Claudia had known she did wrong, he did wrong too but hers was worse. She should not have poured the drink on him, she should have just left or rejected him politely without pouring the drink on him. To her that was her only offence.

"I am sorry so sorry." She poured out, hiding her face in shame.

David looked at her in disgust. "Poor thing!" He exclaimed pitifully. To Claudia, her only offence was pouring a drink into David but to David, it was much more than that.

It was rejecting him as a whole, nobody dared turn him down. Claudia was the first.

"Well, Miss Claudia, it is good of you to work on your personality, I didn't know it was you before employing you, but now I do I won't fire you, I guess maybe life is teaching you some lessons." he lied.

Claudia looked at him in disbelief, she couldn't believe she wasn't getting fired despite him knowing, unknown to her, that this was all planned. Maybe. He's planning revenge, she said to herself.

Claudia was down in the dumps. You could barely see her eyes.

"Congratulations once again"

"Thank you" she replied faintly.

"You are resuming immediately," David said to her.

Claudia was not sure why David was helping her or rather hiring her. It was suspicious and she could not just help the situation.

She nodded to David in affirmation.

"Your orientation is starting immediately too" Claudia looked at David's cold face and distant expression, her instincts kept telling her that all was not well. To clear her doubts she quickly asked David.

"What was the last Secretary like and why is she no longer working? Did she get a better job or get sacked? "I'm just asking to know what to do and what not to"

David sized her and kept mute. It has sent down chills on his body. He doesn't like talking about it. His last secretary died in a car accident after they had a disagreement. He was in a romantic relationship with her and that night they had an argument and she left and got hit by a car.

Seeing the look of anxiety on David's face, Claudia sensed something was wrong.

"I am sorry if asking about it made you upset," she said.

He looked at her in a cold unemotional way repeating her words.

"Upset?" "The last secretary was good, you will replace her, you will be everything she was to me with me, but I won't be everything I was to her with you," he said.

Claudia looked at him in confusion.

"I ...don't ...understand" she gradually slipped out.
