Chapter 4

"May we know your identity, please?" one of the paramedics asked Claudia.

"I'm their daughter and I was the one who called the police," she replied while pushing the trolley to help them get her parents into the ambulance. Her mother had also fainted from shock.

Claudia had put on a shirt and shorts immediately after the call. She stopped a taxi to go to the scene after she had phoned the emergency services. The police had arrived just five minutes before the ambulance, as there were casualties.

Due to everyone wearing face masks, it was a bit difficult to hear each other.

"Come on, hurry, this way, move, move, call the doctor!" These were the words coming from them after they got out of the ambulance and headed to the ward.

Donald was secretly following them around and watching everything.

David and Donald had already managed to get away. On their way out, they even encountered one of the policemen who was heading in their direction to the laundry shop, but the police didn't suspect them at all. David was very influential, so even if he was caught by the cops, the process could be shortened. He walked to where he had parked his Chevrolet Camaro.

"Mr. David Wilson, you need to hurry and leave right now," one of the policemen said as David waved his hands at him. "There is an emergency around here, so do well to leave the vicinity," he added.

David smiled. "Thank you, Officer Mark," he said, looking at the officer's barge where he saw his name before getting in his car and driving off.

The police were seen with their book and pens trying to put down what they observed though there was no evidence of anything and the cameras in that street were already bad.

It was a pleasant ride with his music playing until his ringtone interrupted the music coming from his phone, which was connected to the Bluetooth of his car.

When he got home. It was already so late at night. He looked at his time and it was past 12 in the morning "What a day!" He exclaimed, "She deserves it anyway" Within a couple of minutes, he had slept off.

Donald was behind the door, he was observing and hearing everything Claudia was saying with the doctor, down to when she entered her parents' ward.

"I will get a job soon, mama," she said, holding her mum and her Dad's hand. "It's my fault if I had a job, my parents wouldn't have to stay out so late and they wouldn't have been in danger." Saying this, she started sobbing uncontrollably.

Donald overheard everything and left after seeing Claudia fall asleep with her parents. He could not wait for the next morning to call his boss and relay the information to him.

"Hello," David answered in the late hours of the morning. He was still in bed and could wake up anytime he wanted, moreover, he had a hectic day yesterday.

"I think she's been in search of a job. According to what she said, she lost her job and hasn't been able to get another."

David's eyes widened immediately at the mention of that. It was as if everything was falling into place on its own.

"Good, you know what to do already, let her know about the company and apply immediately, her interview should be scheduled right away!"

David felt accomplished. He's getting there. She had refused to let him into her life, now she won't refuse to work for him.

There was a knock on the door. "Breakfast is ready sir," the chef said. "Please eat while it's still hot," she added in her aged voice.

David was beaming. The chef was the only one who could control him or the only one he felt genuine around. He sometimes acted cold outwardly but he had a soft spot for her.

He stayed silent and didn't say anything and Angela left and went downstairs with the help of her walking stick. She had always wanted to retire but David would never let her. He kept increasing her salary whenever she talked about her retirement.

David quickly took the elevator and went downstairs. Although his mansion was a three-story building, it had an elevator, which he was the only one to make use of.

He quickly devoured his breakfast, which consisted of steak and eggs. He finished everything and wanted more, which was why he wouldn't replace Angela; she was so good and he was likely happy with the good news too.

"I hope you enjoyed your meal, sir," Angela asked with her innocent smile.

"It was alright," David replied almost immediately with a straight face, dropping the bottle of water on the table, using the serviette to wipe his mouth, and leaving immediately, ignoring Angela's smile.

Claudia was awake, staring at her parents. You could see the depression on her face; they were on a drip since they were unable to eat. She switched on the television, hoping to find something to do, and to her surprise, she saw an advertisement for a secretary position at a fashion house.

"This could be worth a try," she said quickly, taking her phone and sending her application to the email.

It was Donald who had arranged everything. He had seen Claudia watching the television the night before, so he had them advertise the vacancy on the channel, and everything went as planned.

"It is done, boss," Donald sent David a text, followed by a call from him.

"Have them schedule an interview for her immediately. I will be on my way."

"Immediately?" he asked.

"Yes, immediately."

Donald was silent before proceeding. No one questioned the boss, so he had to carry out the task.

Claudia was in the doctor's office, pleading to try everything possible to make her parents wake up.

"So Doctor, when will they wake up?" she asked.

"Your mother is meant to be awake by now or in a few minutes, we are still trying to figure out your father's condition, and you know you haven't deposited any money, so the sooner the better," Doctor Ivan replied, handing her the bills.

"Here are the bills so far"

Claudia froze, gazing at it; she remembered she didn't have a job. How then was she going to pay for this and to further her father's payment?

"Are you there?" Doctor Ivan asked.

She woke from her thoughts, faking a smile to the doctor and nodding, just then, her phone beeped.

It was a message from the company and it read: "Congratulations Claudia, you have been invited for an interview by 1 pm."

She looked at her wristwatch. It was 12:30 p.m.
