Chapter 3 Greetings

Charlotte

I could hear him talking to all the boys including Michael, I had a crush on Michael like forever, but I doubt he even knew me because we never really talked. Maybe this year will be different.

I laugh bitter to myself, I told myself that last year, and how did that work out?

Terribly. Never said another word to him.

I leaned my head against the bookshelf. This was going to be a long year. And Michael was not helping, it was annoying trying to be invisible in front of him but still wanting him to like me back. Stupid I know but I'm too shy, I don't want him to think badly of me because I feel like everything I do is going to drive him away. He's everything and I'm nothing. I have probably liked him since 6th grade, but he probably doesn't even know I exist. That's how sad it is, and he will never know that I exist. I loved thinking about him but hated it at the same time.

How can looking at someone make you feel so happy but yet so heartbroken at the same time? I watch as he smiles while talking to the new guy. His smile was beautiful. My heart melts when he runs his hand through his curly black hair. He is like the only person who is able to make me feel this way and I hated him for it. Why can't he see me and love me the way I love him?

Why is love so hard?

I have to stop looking at him. I'm too desperate, and I can't just stare at him all day even though I want to. His handsome face was literally all I can think about these days. I never looked into his eyes but I bet if I did, I'd probably be mesmerized by the beauty of it. I sighed just thinking about him.

When I looked up again, I saw that the new kid had made his way to another group of boys and then another group. Was he going to circle around and talk to everyone? Probably not, but a part of me hopes that he would.

Soon, I heard someone cough rather loudly next to me. I immediately looked up, startled.

In front of me was that new kid. He smiled at me.

"Hi," I said, "Can I help you?"

I could feel Ally's eyes boring into my back. She probably won't want to be to talk to him. I smiled, I didn't want to make Ally jealous.

"Hi, I'm Charles," he smiled.

Charles? That's a rather posh name. With him being so close to me, I could feel his strong aura. I studied him, he had a chiseled chin and jet-black eyes that him look elegant. He was really good-looking but maybe not as good as Michael. His voice was hoarse but yet in a way that made it sound kind. My heart skipped a beat.

"I'm Charlotte," I murmured.

I glanced at the clock on the wall. If he really was going to talk to everyone, he better hurry to Ally's table, there were barely 2 minutes left.

"There are like 2 minutes left until homeroom starts, you better go to that last table you haven't been to before it's too late," I'm just trying to be nice.

"You noticed?" He teased.

I furrowed my brow, he thought that I was looking at him? How rude, even though that might be true. I don't have a good excuse that says otherwise.

"Are you going to go there or not?" I asked feeling a little frustrated.

He laughs noticing my mood, "If you really want to know, I wasn't planning on going over there."

I frowned, "Why not?"

Ally was definitely waiting for him, he had no reason not to go.

Before he could respond, the bell rang.

Because of the fact that we were sitting at the back of the room, there were 2 spots left next to each other.

Charles immediately went to one of the seats. He had no intention of answering my question. He motioned me to come sit on the other.

My eyes fell on the spot next to him. I wasn't sure if I should sit there. I hesitated for a while before deciding that I had no choice but to just sit there next to him. Besides, a lot of people were looking at me including Michael, I wouldn't want to embarrass myself.

That I decided was the reason I went to sit next to him.

And the reason that Ally looked rather jealous was definitely helping.
