The maid pushed the dinner in, and when she got close, Kayla realized that the dinner cart was filled with different types of food. There were Chinese, Japanese and even French foods.
"I wasn't sure what your personal preference was, so Mr Leon asked to prepare a little bit of everything", the maid said respectfully.
"What would you like to eat first?", she asked.
Kayla sat up. She took a brief look at the maid, then replied uncomfortably, "Japanese style".
The maid took out a small table from the cart and placed it carefully at the side of the bed. She then set the food neatly, and placed a fork and knife in the plate.
Kayla was really hungry when she saw the food. She thought that eating the food would give her enough strength to leave, so she jumped at it. Her eyes opened wide as she tasted the sandwich! It was really nice and tasted so exquisite.
It seemed as though Bryan lived an extravagant life. When she had finished the food in the plate, the maid asked, "Do you need anything else?"
Kayla waved slightly, "No, thank you".
The maid replaced the items in the cart, gave a short bow and rolled the cart out of the room. Kayla stared at her back till she was out of sight.
Suddenly, Karen heard a phone ring. She knew it was her phone since the ringtone was hers. She quickly took the phone out of her bag and saw the name Anna on it. She frowned a little, and then picked the call.
"Anna, what do you want this time?", she asked.
Anna said in a sweet voice."I forgot to tell you. Someone recently invited I and Donald to take part in a little charity auction, and I decided to donate a diamond necklace. Isn't that sweet?", she smiled.
Kayla raised her eyebrows. A charity auction? That was clearly none of her business.
Anna continued. "The necklace is really stunning. I heard it's called The Midnight Mirage".
Kayla became more furious. She clutched the phone tightly."Anna, how dare you think of selling my stuff?"
Anna laughed. "Why can't I sell my own things? You do know it's not yours".
Kayla had never met such a stone-hearted person as Anna. The necklace was a gift left for her by her mother. How could Anna say it was hers?
"This necklace is mine". Anna laughed loudly. She was really pleased with Kayla's reaction, as she had expected it. "Maybe you should learn to protect your things. If you let them fall into other people's hands, then they decide how to use it to their advantage ".
Kayla knew that Anna wasn't referring to only the necklace, but also to Donald, and it got her more upset.
She could let go of Donald, but she would definitely get the necklace back.
"I'll surely get the necklace back, and as for you, Anna, you'll pay for your crime". She hung the call.
It took Bryan quite a long time to come back to the room. When he did, he met Kayla on the bed, holding a pillow in her arms. Her face was down, and her thick, long hair covered her face, making Bryan unable to see her expression.
Kayla suddenly raised her head when she heard someone open the door. Bryan saw that her once bright eyes were now red, and her face was pale. She looked like she had already taken a decision.
Somehow, he got to see her face. He was apprehensive. He rushed to her side and sat on the bed. He had never seen this side of her, and it almost broke his heart.
"Waiting for me?", He asked, his eyebrows raised. "I'm sorry if I wasted so much time at the dining ".
"Did you really mean what you said before?", Kayla mustered the courage to ask.
"Of course, I do. I don't relent on my words". Bryan's eyes stared at her face, as he didn't want to miss looking at her pretty face.
Kayla talked calmly. A little smile appeared on his lips as he heard her talk. "I have one condition".
"What?", his eyes were focused on her, and she knew he was listening.
Kayla bit her lips. "I'm not interested in your money. I need you to help me get back a necklace. It's really expensive, it's worth millions", Kayla said nervously.
Would someone she had just met spend a huge sum of money just to help her? He was wealthy after all.
There was a sincere and calm smile on his face. He hadn't met anyone who had made him happy in a very long time. Kayla could see the expression on his face, and she was worried that he had misunderstood her intentions.
Unexpectedly, she took his big palms in her small hand. She looked at him desperately and said, "It's really not about your money. The necklace is really precious and it means a lot to me. I just need to get it back ".
There was a different look in Bryan's eyes. He felt her soft, warm hands on his, and it gave him a totally different feeling. He didn't get to feel those soft hands the previous night because he was lost in so much ecstasy. "I promise", he said in a low voice.
Kayla sighed in relief, and she withdrew her hand from his. "I promise you that after the six months are over, you'd never see me again. That's what you want, right?"
The words she just said darkened Bryan's face. Why did he suddenly feel bad when she said she was going to leave after six months? Kayla could not guess what went through his mind.
Bryan had always been so cold, so it didn't take him much to hide his feelings behind that subtle face.
Seeing that Bryan was not talking, she blinked and asked, "Is anything wrong?"
She was actually aware that while Bryan's expression changed, a sudden wave of coldness came over him, a coldness that so many people could not approach.
"Do you already have your certificate?", Kayla asked.
"At home ". Bryan stood up and said," Let's go. I'll drive you to your place to get yours".
Kayla looked very much surprised. "Do you really want to apply for it today? "
"Yes", Bryan answered, looking at her.
Kayla thought it was going to be just a fake marriage. She didn't think there was going to be any sort of wedding feasts or trying to notify relatives and friends. She just bit down on her lips and said, "Okay"
