Chapter 6 An Obstinate Woman

Growing a broken bone was next to impossible even in the traditional practice of medicine. However, after his first attempt, Alexander was confident that he could make history soon.

One of the reasons why this was a big deal was that the materials used couldn't be found just anywhere. They were expensive and required to be handled with great care.

Shortly after leaving home, Alexander arrived at the biggest herb market in Nuledo. It was still very busy.

Alexander-while going over the list of materials he needed to buy in his head-walked on the zebra crossing absentmindedly.

A few steps in, he heard a screeching sound from the side.

It was accompanied by a girl's loud curse.

"Do you want to die? Why don't you pay attention to the road?"

When he came to his senses and was about to apologize, Alexander found that the pedestrian traffic light was still green.

At this time, a young lady who was clad in dressy clothes came down from the blue Maserati. She flipped her hair backward.

"Are you blind?" Alexander asked coldly. "The light clearly states it's time for pedestrians to cross, so you should have stopped, shouldn't you?"

"What! How is it my fault that you almost got hit? You came out of nowhere and crossed without looking carefully. Fuck you!"

The girl cursed at him. Suddenly, she aimed to kick him in the balls.

Alexander saw it coming. So, he was able to block it easily. He was just about to get short with her when the passenger seat door opened.

An old man in a suit walked out of the car with a crutch. He shouted at the girl, "Eloisa! Don't be presumptuous! It's our fault. We were supposed to stop at the red light. You almost ran him over. Instead of shouting at the man, apologize to him right now!"

The young lady named Eloisa Duncan stamped her foot naughtily and grumbled, "Why should I? My driving was just perfect. As a pedestrian, he should have looked to the right and left before crossing."

"Nonsense! Behave yourself! We are not at home where you can get away with anything. We haven't got time. Remember you need to take me to the hospital ASAP." The old man coughed as he scolded her.

Time was indeed not on their side. However, Eloisa, who was used to having her way, remained as stubborn as a mule.

"No way! This guy mustn't get away with this. I'll show him that I'm not someone to be messed with."

"You silly girl! When will you stop being so uncouth? Is it until I die?"

The old man growled and held his chest. His body began to tremble as he struggled to breath.

The scowl on Eloisa's face disappeared. Flustered, she ran to the man's side and supported him.

"Grandpa! Are you okay? I'll take you to the hospital right now!"

She helped him back to the car and then slipped into the driver's seat. After taking a wad of cash, she threw it to Alexander. The bills scattered in the air.

"Take that and get out of my sight! If you continue to waste my time, you won't be able to bear the consequences."

Alexander quickly picked up the bills and threw them back at her. He then said, "Not to be a pest, but you can't leave now."

Eloisa's hand tightened on the steering wheel. She glanced at her grandfather and burst into tears.

"Can't you see that my grandfather isn't feeling well? Get out of my way!"

She turned and produced another wad of cash. This time, she held it out to him.

Alexander shook his head and looked at the old man in the passenger seat.

"Your grandfather is Alec Duncan, right?"

"Now that you know who he is, get out of my way!" Anxiety and rage were almost getting the best of Eloisa at this time. She contemplated just running him over.

"I know your grandfather, so I can't let you leave now. He's a well-known philanthropist in Nuledo. I can't watch him die!" said Alexander, looking perturbed.

"What are you driving at? Are you wishing my grandfather death?"

"Not at all. I actually want to save him!"

As Alexander spoke, he stepped forward and opened the car door.

"The nearest hospital is at least twenty minutes away. From the look of things, Mr. Duncan can only hold up for ten minutes or less."

"Stop talking nonsense! My grandpa will be fine once I get him to the hospital." Stubbornly, Eloisa tried to pull Alexander away.

Her efforts surprisingly failed. Alexander was as strong as a mountain.

"Your grandfather has a heart disease, right?" he suddenly asked.

Eloisa, who just got her hands on his belt from behind, froze that second. She asked in surprise, "How did you know?"

"Heart diseases and common ailments in middle-aged and old people are quite easy to detect. But now, his heart isn't what is putting his life at risk. It's his lungs!"

"Young man, how do you know all this?" Alec, whose face was bloodless now, looked at Alexander in surprise.

No one had ever been able to diagnose him so fast before. This was unbelievable!

"You started to experience difficulty breathing about twenty minutes ago. Your limbs became numb and you began to sweat a little. And you just had a heart attack while trying to dissuade your precious granddaughter. Isn't that right?"

Alexander was so on point that he got the timeframe correct. Eloisa was stunned and extremely anxious.

"Since you already know what's happening, stop talking. Do something to save my grandpa!"

"Have you no manners? Is that how to make a humble request?" Alexander sneered.

Out of the blue, Eloisa burst into tears.

Meanwhile, Alec's breathing grew weaker and his chest continued to heave. He said weakly, "Young man, I apologize on my granddaughter's behalf. It's my-"

"It's her fault. She should be apologizing, not you, * Alexander said seriously.

"Sorry, I was wrong! My anxiety got the best of me. I don't want my grandpa to die. Please save him. Please!" Now bawling her eyes out, Eloisa bowed to Alexander.

"Die? Who said anything about dying? As long as I'm here, Mr. Duncan won't die!" Alexander smiled confidently.
