"Good morning Mr. Harris..." I heard my fellow students greet him and he nodded slightly.
When he got close to me, I just faced him.
"G-good morning Mr. Harris, d-do you teach here?" I promised before giving him an awkward smile.
"So I see we're attending the same school." He just made a serious and casual promise while he was smiling.
"Ah, yes, yes." I smiled like a promise when he glanced at his wrist watch.
"I gotta go so you should too. Let's talk about this at home." He said seriously but his voice was still so sweet that made me smile even more.
He turned away but looked at me again.
"Btw, stop smiling like that in public, you look dumb..." he said seriously before smiling slightly and completely leaving, which is why I covered my mouth but was still smiling because of his smile.
"Hey vakla, smile? Who are you crushing on?!!" Lou openly promised that he was just about to enter the gate with Prima who seemed to be looking for someone.
"Oh what are you looking for?" I asked him.
"Edi, what else but the one who thrills you..." He joked but only smiled.
"Secret...he's gone..." I jokingly promised and started walking.
"Who is it?" Lou said curiously.
"Don't be surprised, Mr. Harris, he actually teaches here at our school..." I smiled as a promise, which is why they got even more excited.
"For real? What department is he in and where is he now?" Prima exclaimed.
"I didn't ask, but let me see you."
"Oh, I'm excited to see him. You said he's handsome and cool. I'm interested." Lou said excitedly.
"Well, you know our standard when we say handsome and cool is a different level, you can include it in EXO." I was thrilled while we were giggling with each other and continued walking.
It was lunch time and I was eating alone in the cafeteria.
Stupidly, I was just looking at my food because my thoughts were different, about Mr.'s offer. Harris.
I thought about agreeing but I was also thinking about what my friends would say.
"Hey!" After a while, Prima surprised me with a matching finger snap on my face.
"O-oh you're already there."
"Umm yes, why are you being so stupid again? Actually the two of us were on the side watching you." Lou said before placing his food on the table and sitting down. Prima also followed.
"So what, is it about what you said earlier that you're going to tell us?" Prima's promise was curious, which is why I took a deep breath first, which made him even more curious.
"What I'm going to say has something to do with Mr. Harris, so I hope you don't freak out." I started to speak but they just smiled.
"I-I want to tell you that... that I am going to marry Mr. Harris." I closed my eyes and whispered a promise.
"What?! Marriage!"
"Why?"
"When?"
They were so surprised that I hushed them.
"Oh, you mouths, maybe someone will hear, just chill, okay--"
"What are we just chilling?! You just said you're getting married, how can we be chill aber?!" Prima said to me that Lou immediately agreed.
"True... Wait, why are you getting married?" It said more.
"Okay, vakla listen to me okay. It's just fake, it's not real-- umm well, it's true that we're going to get married but it's only a contractual agreement for two years and then we're going to get divorced. maybe we just really need each other ..." I explained but their faces couldn't be painted yet and were just staring at me so I continued.
"You need each other?!"Prima exclaimed meaning something else that's why I immediately protested.
"Wowyy it's not like that. I mean-- this agreement will help us, especially me because all Mr. Harris needs is a woman who will be his wife in front of the family and his Mami'la for at at least two years. As for me, I need a place to stay and someone to support me so that I can save more to replace the house that burned down so that I can show grandma something when she gets out of Manila." I said seriously when I stopped because they suddenly smiled and seemed to be thrilled.
"Oh, what are those smiles?!"
"No, we're just happy for you..." Pim smiled as if promising, so I was surprised.
"W-you don't mind?!" I promise.
"Hah object? Why is that good because it's safe instead of having a hard time finding a place to live and working just to support your daily needs especially your studies. Besides, you have more than a week Mr. Harris is also in the house and you said he's okay oh that's it.
"do you think I should really do this?" I hesitate to suggest.
"Like you said, it's only a contractual agreement for two years. That's right, these coming two years of your life are your hardest where you needed a man who owns a house, who is a gentleman even if cold and grumpy, a man who is financially stable enough to support you, and lastly, a man who is matured enough to handle your relationship. Vakla, actually for me, this marriage is in your favor because all you have to do is become Mr. Harris's wife and take care of his Mamila, apart from that there is nothing." Lou promised again that's why I nodded.
"You're right, I'll finalize this tonight with Mr. Harris, because Mami'la is already asking when the wedding is going to be." I said before I smiled when I noticed Prima's silence.
"Oh Prima, why are you so quiet there? Is there a problem?" We turn to him.
"Hah, there's nothing vakla, I'm just thinking about you. I'm not against that marriage but you, what if in those two years you fell in love with Mr. Harris even before you divorced, how about you? Well, I don't think it's unlikely let that happen because even now she is thrilled with him."
My stomach seems stirred up because of what he said.
"Prima, maybe it's true that I have a crush on him, but p-but to let myself fall in love with him? I won't do that. I know my limitations, vakla. I'm not on Mr. Harris' level, he's like up there while I am it's just breathing." They laughed at what I said so I laughed too before I got serious again.
"But this, kidding aside, I know Mr. Harris won't like me. I'm not even one percent close to the kind of girl he would like so I won't let myself fall for him! I'm just poor when that happens, we're ekes..." I said and made an ekes sign with my two arms.
"Hmm, just make sure of that!" Lou said teasingly.
"Of course, am I? Besides, jusko, you know how strict and cold he is at home, to the bone, it's like I'm always in the principal's office, so it's not that!" I said before grinning.
In the afternoon, I left school early because Prima and Lou had something to do. I might be late for work.
As usual, I just walk again because the fare is a waste. I only walk a few corners to the shop.
Actually, he is really far, but can I do better? I have no money, besides I have to save.
I was only a few hundred meters away from the university when a fast car of Mr. Harris.
"Oh wow, the peg is a car racer?!" I exclaimed when I was stopped because it stopped not far away and moved backwards.
I just watched that and didn't leave where I was standing.
When it reached across from me it opened the window.
"M-Mr. Harris, good afternoon." My best regards.
"Umm, going somewhere or going home because if you're going home you can hop in." He said seriously with his emotionless face as usual.
"Ah k-because Mr. Harris, I'm still going to my work."
"You mean at the cafe?"
"Yes."
"Okay then, I'll drop you there."
"Oh, Mr. Harris, no, it's a different direction, it's impossible to go home."
"Umm okay. I'll see you at home then." He just answered and closed the window and sped off again.
Gian's Pov
I peeked again from the side mirror at Ariyah who was walking on the side-walk after I left.
"Hey Gian, aren't you too hard on her? Should I not take her to the cafe? Hey, it's up to you, I think it's better this way. Less contact, no attachment, less problem." I argue with myself while driving.
When I got home, he was still on my mind. I was thinking about how I could possibly help her without meaning anything.
It's been more than a week since I was with him here at my house and I saw the things he needed.
If she'll agree to marry me, only then I can provide the things that she needs without adding any special meaning since she's my wife and it's just right for me to provide and support her. I can even help her with her studies especially since I see her distracted. Hey...
I just held my breath at those thoughts.
After taking a bath, I was about to go out when I was turned back to the toiletries.
I just realized that they're all for men. Out of nowhere I looked in a corner where I saw a napkin pad. It is alone.
I suddenly felt compassion so I decided to go out and go to the department store to buy her stuff.
I was in front of the napkin section and was reading when I noticed that some people were already looking at me and the others were still laughing.
"Hey, why am I doing this?" I just closed my eyes to exclaim when someone spoke behind me.
"M-Mr. Harris?!" Ariyah exclaimed who was behind me. I blushed a little and felt embarrassed but I remained intact.
"Oh Miss Suarez, it's you. What are you doing here. I thought you were at work?"
"Oh, because when I went to the cafe, we didn't have work because it was our boss's birthday and the cafe was closed."
"And they didn't text you about it so you didn't get tired of going there?" I promise seriously.
"Ah because that's true I don't have a cell phone. You remember when it rained on me, my cell phone got soaked and didn't work anymore." He said shyly.
"Why didn't you buy--ah I'm sorry, I actually understand why." I took back my promise when we looked at each other because he looked at what I was holding.
"M-Mr. Harris napkin?!" He was surprised at what he said and seems to be misinterpreting me, which is why I immediately defended myself.
"No, you're thinking wrong. I'm not gay."
"Eh, what are you doing here and why are you holding that and y-the contents of your cart are p-only for women." She promised with a smile, so I immediately handed her the napkin I was holding and gave her the cart.
"Ah ehmm, hmm! Actually I was wandering around the house earlier when I noticed that I'm being inconsiderate because all of the stuff there are meant for me so I've decided to buy you stuff. I even noticed that you're running out of that thing that's why I'm here in this section right now. You don't have to put meaningto this, I just don't want people around me uncomfortable. Besides, I know you want to buy those but you don't have enough money and it's okay, it's on me. I'll go get some drinks, just call me when you pay." I made a serious promise right before I left him cuz I'm actually embarrassed of myself. I didn't expect her to find me buying her stuff.
