Chapter 5 Sudden News

Chapter Five

After throwing up, I got off the floor then opened the door and left the cubicle to find a girl I was well familiar with standing there staring at me intently as though trying to understand something, her gaze was quite piercing that I feared she could actually look into my soul and unfold all my many secrets "W-what is it?" I asked confused and a bit overwhelmed by her gaze

"W-well, a-are you pregnant?" I felt my whole world screech to a halt as she said that. Pregnant? Me? No way!

I began to doubt myself for a few seconds as I was aware of my constant weakness and irritation to certain smells, Natalie and Laila have both been encouraging me to go for a test so I could be checked up on but I had refused as at the moment I was on my way to the top as I have been giving a chance here in this company to prove myself. But now with a baby I most definitely would not be able to accomplish my many dreams. I decided not to let my head play tricks on me.

"No of course not." And with that, I walked out on the girl and went back to my desk to focus on designing something new. I decided to put my full focus on the task I had at hand and thankfully it was helpful as I was able to finish up on time.

Feeling a sense of discomfort, I went to Laila's house instead, I pushed the button by the side of the door and she opened up after a few minutes. "Hey Emma" she greeted with her usual cherry smile and I smiled back contently.

I walked into her home and sat with her in her bedroom. As usual I explained everything to her in detail, I explained my feelings and everything abd also explained what the girl had said at the office and thankfully she was quite the good listener and I was happy about that. After a while we decided to watch a movie then she made me prepare dinner for both of us while she rushed to the store nearby for something she wouldn't tell me about.

A while after she left, I got up feeling all rusty and tired dragged my body to the kitchen and prepared up spaghetti and meatballs. She got back right on time and handed me a pregnancy pee test pack and I gazed up at her in disbelief. "I trust you but just test yourself so you'd know what next to do. I understood her point and took it with me into the washroom.

After a while, we remained in her room. I laid on the bed facing the celling while she rambled about like a lost cause. "Oh no this is bad. This is so so bad" she kept rambling

"What is it!" I yelled out of frustration but I wasn't prepared for what she had to say next, my whole world screech to a halt as I heard the words that I wasn't expecting to hear even in a million years to come.

"You're pregnant Emma" Laila had her eyes widened as she said those words, I sat there frozen not knowing what to do or say or behave. My whole emotions had been deprived of my face and came out as sudden tears. I was pregnant. And for Alexander, how would I tell him? What would I say? Would I have to hide my pregnancy?

"Girl, what are you going to do?" I heard Laila say. Then she suddenly turned to face me and noticed my tears. "Oh darling"

She embraced me and patted me on my back to soothe me, I could see my plans, my ambitions, and my dreams crumble down in front of me. My anxiety was at its height and depression began to seep in. I thought of my Big American Dream and saw it tear up piece by piece. Everything was over now, I was done for. My whole life is done.

After a while of Laila trying to calm me down and make me have dinner, she completely passed out next to me on her small bed. I sat up in bed, wondering if I should really text Alexander about everything. I picked up my phone and found his number. I had saved it but never had i once texted him. I dropped my phone by the nightstand and took in a deep breath. The weight of uncertainty pressed upon me, urging me to confront the impending dawn that would inevitably steal away everything I had worked for.

With a sigh, I turned my gaze to the sliver of moonlight streaming through the window. It bathed the room in a soft, ethereal glow, casting shadows that danced and whispered secrets across the walls. In this hushed moment, I felt a surge of courage welling up within me, urging me to break free from the confines of my own hesitations.

I reached for my phone on the nightstand, my fingers trembling as I typed a message. It was a simple invitation, yet it carried a profound weight. "Hello Alexander, it's Emma Collins. We had met at a gallery opening a couple of weeks ago. Meet me at the café on Elm Street tomorrow. We have something important to discuss about."

As the message sent, My heart raced with anticipation and a hint of trepidation. I tossed and turned in my restless slumber, my dreams a kaleidoscope of possibilities and what-ifs. The morning arrived, draped in a gentle blush of sunlight, as if nature itself conspired to accompany me on this journey.

I dressed up in my favorite sundress, feeling a newfound confidence coursing through my veins. I stepped out onto the bustling streets, my senses heightened, attuned to the world around me. The vibrant city seemed to pulsate with life.

The café on Elm Street was a cozy haven, its aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the melodies of soft jazz. I found myself at a table near the window, my gaze drifting toward the street, where people hurried past, chasing their own dreams and ambitions.

Minutes turned into hours, and the café gradually emptied as the lunchtime rush dwindled. Doubt crept into my mind, but I refused to surrender to its seductive whispers. Just as I was about to gather my belongings and surrender to the notion of a fading memory, the door chimed, announcing the arrival of a familiar figure.

It was him.
