Chapter 5 Night Without STARS

"Sometimes sadness

gets tired too"

Mohini

Walking on a night, Mohini was disheartened. She didn't attend her classes today and also did not show her sadness to her friends.

Tilak left for home. Lisa and Roop went to the hostel but here Cherry was silently following Mohini.

Mohini's mind was disturbed.

'How to face her mother? What to tell her? How to explain the situation to her mother and most importantly, how to find a new job again?'

There were lots of questions she wanted to solve and the most important thing was 'How to find someone who would help her?'

Everything was messy in her head.

"Mohu! Watch out?", Cherry yelled loudly and Mohini sank into deep thoughts that she failed to notice a car on her way.

For a few seconds, Mohini's mind went blank. She was unable to move her body.

Suddenly, a sudden force pulled her back and saved her. The car went away with lightning speed.

"Oh my God! Are you alright?", Cherry shook her body as she panicked and asked Mohini.

Mohini stood blankly at the moment.

"What the hell? Are you planning to die leaving your mom and us alone?", Cherry shouted at her who was staring at her.

Cherry saw how Mohini was absent-mindedly following the wrong path which was not the right route to her home.

Cherry called her twice but Mohini was busy in her thoughts and then Cherry saw how quickly a car was running towards Mohini. She ran towards her and pulled her.

"You are not hurt. Right?", Cherry asked her

Mohini stared at her friend who had worry lines on her face.

"Cherry", Mohini whispered her name.

"Let me check whether your body is hurt or not", Cherry said and inspected her body

"Cherry! I'm fine", Mohini said and Cherry glared at her, "Hey! You! How many times do I have to tell you to be safe huh? You scared me to death"

"I'm sorry, Cherry", Mohini spoke and burst into hot tears.

Cherry was shocked at her outburst.

Cherry hugged her tightly and whispered, "It's okay Mohu. Don't be scared. You are fine. I'm here with you"

"Cherry!", Mohini sobbed and embraced her friend tightly.

"Hey! It's okay. Don't worry. Just remember one thing I will always be with you. Don't be scared", Cherry said softly to her as she rubbed Mohini's back up and down.

Mohini controlled herself not to cry more.

"What's wrong?", Cherry asked her.

Mohini sighed deeply and shook her head.

"I lost the job because of daddy's little princess who doesn't want me to work there", Mohini pouted sadly.

"That bit*h. I'll chop her brows", Cherry cursed and Mohini giggled happily.

"Mummy! She does not want me to work. She never wanted to come to Delhi but she did because I convinced her after so much emotional drama. I wanted to do a job because I wanted to earn money to help her but she thought of something else. There are so many things that I don't understand. But there's one thing that I want to know", Mohini said and wiped her eyes.

Cherry listened to her calmly and then spoke, "I can understand your concern and thoughts Mohu but what do you want to know?"

Mohini took a deep breath and said, "I want to know where my father is?"

Cherry stared at her shockingly and then asked, "Is not your father dead?"

Mohini weakly smiled and then shook her head, "No! He is alive"

Mohini then thought, 'I know this because we left Canada only because of a letter. I don't know about the sender of that letter but that letter told my mother to leave Canada. And something was or is still making her uncomfortable that's why she always wanted to hide my father's existence from me. Except for his name, Jagat Vishwam, I don't have any information related to him and it hurts. It hurt very much.'

"Then what do you want to do?", Cherry asked her

Mohini had a hard look on her face as she spoke in a determining tone,

"I want help from someone who holds power, position, and money", Mohini replied as she stared at the night who was out of stars tonight and thought, 'Someone who has higher authority. Who is not a commoner like me? Who won't get scared easily either'

"That's why you came to Delhi and studied at CS College?", Cherry questioned her.

They were second-year students of computer science and very close to each other. They knew everything about each other but Mohini hid her original thoughts and some important matters from her friends because she didn't want them to get involved in the darkness of her life.

Cherry clapped both hands.

"I think I know someone. No! Actually, my father knows that person. I'll help you. Let's talk to others as well on this matter. You know Tilak's family has a strong position in the corporate world just like my father", Cherry spoke as her eyes twinkled in the night.

Mohini nodded and knew her friends had a stronger background than her. They all came from very wealthy and powerful families.

Both girls talked about searching for new jobs. The night was getting darker by each hour and silence was engulfing the time.

They were walking while talking, without concern about the path on which they were following.

Suddenly their feet stopped in the middle of their path. Both of the girls felt chillness surrounding them. Their eyes were wide and their throats were dry.

Their eyes stuck on the sight and their ears were only ringing with the moaning sounds.

The no sound of the bullet suddenly broke their stillness. They saw how a man was pointing a gun at another man who was lying on the ground and blood was gushing out of his body.

A scream came out of both girls at the same time, making those men startled.

The men who had guns in their hands stared at both Mohini and Cherry. They were trembling in fear.

Mohini and Cherry looked at them with their bulging eyes. They just witnessed a murder and they were standing near the crime scene.

They both were too scared and wanted to run away but those men immediately surrounded them and started to eye them from head to toe.

Mohini and Cherry knew that they were the members of a Mafia group that was highly activated on the nights of Delhi.

Those gangsters had covered their faces with black masks, only their eyes were visible from their faces.

The man who had the gun moved towards the girls stood too close to them and suddenly pointed his gun at the head of Mohini.

Cherry shuddered.

Mohini cried mentally.

"Oh, my Deity! Please protect us. I don't want to die. I have to search for my father", Mohini murmured and suddenly closed her eyes in fear because She knew tonight was the last night of her life.
